Zoe Covid App-invited for a covid test

Thorilicious · 01/10/2020 14:41

I've been using the Zoe reporting app daily. Had a headache and sore throat a couple of days ago, and have been invited to have a covid test.
I've applied, but I'm assuming I don't need to isolate, as I don't have any of the main symptoms?

Patchwork are you in permanent self isolation then?

SoUtterlyGroundDown · 01/10/2020 21:44

@StealthPolarBear

Patchwork are you in permanent self isolation then?
Must be. It’s the only ‘safe’ thing to do.
StealthPolarBear · 01/10/2020 21:44

"Will self isolating regardless of guidelines make us safer or less safer ?

Simple answer . Yes it will."
Change guidelines to symptoms and you essentially make the case for indefinite lockdown, as we know there are many asymptomatic cases. So that must be what you're doing?

Todaythiscouldbe · 01/10/2020 21:54

Simple question.

Will self isolating regardless of guidelines make us safer or less safer ?

Simple answer . Yes it will.

The answer to that 'simple question' can't be yes or no. If you're going to lecture people get things right.

gnushoes · 01/10/2020 21:59

I've tested three times because Zoe has asked me to. Never for any of the classic symptoms. The email is clear that they do not think you have Covid but are testing their hypothesis. They do not suggest you self isolate and nor does the government unless you have any of the three classic symptoms.

StealthPolarBear · 01/10/2020 22:00

Today well spotted

bumblingbovine49 · 01/10/2020 22:23

@Patchworkpatty

I can't believe people are actually asking this .. !

Surely you can see that logic would dictate that you are suspected of having Covid..or you would t be asked to have a test.

The answer to the test will be negative or positive.

If you self isolate and it comes back positive - then you have no chance of infecting someone else. From that point.

If you self isolate and it comes back negative then you STILL haven't infected anyone and THEN you can carry on with life . Literally a few days.

If you don't self isolate and it comes back positive you have been exposing EVERYONE you have come into contact with. Some of whom could be left Ill for months or dead.

It really isn't hard. It's a VIRUS. It's virulent!

The Zoe app asks people to test because of RESEARCH. It asks a selection of people with any illness symptom at all to test so that they can correlate the most common symptoms with a positive test. Their research led to the loss/change of smell being added to the testing main list of symptoms. They have a certain number of tests allocated by the government for their research.

You definitely do not need to self isolate if the Zoe app asks you to test unless you have one of the main symptoms

MarmiteCrumpet25 · 01/10/2020 23:29

I have been reporting on the Zoe app for months. Today was the third time it has asked me to test. The first time I got a home test kit (June), the second time (about 3 weeks ago) I couldn’t get a test, and today for a sore throat. I easily got a test in a walk in centre and will hopefully have the results in 48 hours time. I’m not self-isolating as I don’t have any of the 3 symptoms that require isolation.

yeOldeTrout · 02/10/2020 22:28

isn't it very boring to report daily on Zoe App? That's why I gave up (day 3).

StealthPolarBear · 02/10/2020 22:30

It usually takes me a second or so, two questions

Thorilicious · 02/10/2020 23:02

Literally a couple of seconds, although they do sometimes ask additional questions. I think you can skip these though, if you'd rather not.

It takes less than a minute to report for me and DD. I figure that I can do that while the kettle boils and my input might help find a treatment, vaccine or therapy for covid. It's worth a minute a day to me.
Aragog · 02/10/2020 23:35

If asked by the Zoe app but haven't reported one of the three main symptoms you do NOT need to isolate. It's written somewhere on either the email or the faqs on the app.

It's part of their research and it doesn't mean they thing you necessarily have it.

Only need to isolate if you have one of the three key symptoms.

I have been asked to take a test 4 times by Zoe. I've done two for them -
the other two times it wasn't possible for various reasons. I didn't self isolate either time and didn't need to. School were aware the second time and also didn't expect or need me to isolate.

Aragog · 02/10/2020 23:36

What would it cost you though.. in reality . ? A little bit of inconvenience until a result which can be back within as little as 24 hrs. ?

Well do you want your children taught?
Who's going to teach them for the fortnight if I need to isolate, if supply, who will find that?

It’s seconds! Boring or not.

It takes less time than it just took me to read and reply to your post. And this was probably more boring to be honest Grin.

I am guessing they are gathering evidence to demonstrate a sore throat and headache doesn’t mean you have covid. I don’t get if you are actively partipating in the app why you then wouldn’t go the whole way and get a test. You wouldn’t need to isolate as you don’t have official covid symptoms. People get tested as a precaution all the time for work - if they don’t have symptoms they don’t isolate while waiting for the results.

middleager · 03/10/2020 08:50

I used the Zoe app for DH and me from the day it waa launched, but I've stopped using it lately.

I became jaded in general when friends were testing for sniffles and headaches - and in their kids too - and loving the drama.

Mumisnotmyonlyname · 03/10/2020 08:52

You should follow the advice on the Zoe app, which I knows given to those doing a test, as Ive tested with them myself.

yeOldeTrout · 03/10/2020 09:09

ZoeApp is about research not about what's best for the individual user's health.

I didn't get a test because they wouldn't send them via post and I would have had to drive into a virus hotspot/watchlist town to get one done while I was enjoying a staycation and my adult children were staying.
Thorilicious · 03/10/2020 17:34

Well, my test has arrived, but I can't do the test till Monday according to the leaflet, as it arrived too late before last pick up. I'll still do it, but if it only picks up the virus after 5 days, it'll be too late anyway...

OP posts:
Ietthemeatcake · 04/10/2020 09:54

I just got mine back, negative as expected. Feel like it took ages. I reported symptoms Saturday, got the email and ordered test Monday, arrived Tuesday too late for last pick up. Took test and posted Wednesday, and didn't get the results until today (Sunday). If you genuinely had Covid symptoms, that's a good while to wait.

Thorilicious · 04/10/2020 19:43

@Ietthemeatcake it is a long time, isn't it?
Mine will be just under a week, by the time my results come back

I've just had this. I hadn't even noticed but a couple of people have told me my voice sounds hoarse which I reported so I assume that's why. I'm feeling well and I think it's from visiting my nieces and nephews and shouting while playing with them.

Luckily I'm working from home but I certainly wouldn't be isolating and losing money if I didn't have that option.
