Is a cough at the end of a cold a "new" cough?

DD12 has had a cold the last few days - started with a sore throat, progressed to runny nose and blocked nose, today she has started coughing. She hadn't coughed much before she went to school today, since she came home she has been coughing once every half hour or so, but always after she sniffs, i.e. it's probably post-nasal drip. Does this count as a new cough and do I have to do the whole test and isolate thing AGAIN? (We isolated for DD10's change in sense of taste last week and she tested negative). No fever, no shortness of breath, no change to smell/taste.

This is the guidance our school sent and what I’ll be using. Ds currently has a stinking cold, no fever, no cough (although this might come next as it usually does) we have kept him off purely because he feels rubbish but we haven’t sent him for a test.

If they have a cough, then they do need a test.
The main symptoms that you can get a test for are a cough, a temperature or a change in taste/smell.

Just other symptoms (even if they are other corona symptoms like sore throat, d&v, tiredness, headaches) don’t need a test UNLESS you also develop a cough or temperature.

@StellaGib - please read the updated guidance that I linked. If it is a new continuous cough, yes, if it's end-of-cold throat clearance, no.

I read it but it doesn’t look like the guidance is new, it’s just confirming the existing guidance?

Throat clearing has never been a symptom it’s always been a new continuous cough.

This is the important bit @MRex
“ Your child does not need a test if they have a runny nose, are sneezing or feeling unwell but do not have a temperature, cough or loss of, or change in, sense of smell or taste because these are not normally symptoms of coronavirus.”

If they develop a cough or temperature or change in taste or smell, then they do need a test.
