Has any shops near you ran out of food?

I have only been farmfoods and just been using corner shop and haven't noticed anything - toilet roll was a bit low but curious is anything running out near you?

I can see daily mail posting articles showing people stock piling but I think they are scare mongering and this isn't the case most time - is this true?

Aldi hasn't had my favourite coffee for the last few trips. Fuckers buying up all the italian roast.

insancerre · 24/09/2020 20:04

I’ve just been to the tapas bar and they ran out of cava

lughnasadh · 24/09/2020 20:05

It's not Covid, It's Brexit. People are just waking up.

The supply chain won't recover from that with any speed, and selfish pleading on Facebook for others to do your shopping won't help.

There are only two or three pay days between now and then for most people.

Lozza70 · 24/09/2020 20:09

Jesus wept! Threads like these are part of the problem. If everyone kept buying at their usual rate there will not be an issue. If everyone in the country decides they ‘need’ 16 toilet roll this week it will run out. Catch a grip everyone!

Bwlch · 24/09/2020 20:10

These threads are what starts it off. Can admin not start deleting them on the basis they just stir up this bollocks

I agree.

Lidl was short on fresh produce 2.5 days ago. It's not uncommon with Lidl to be out of stuff, but the bog roll section looked depleted too.

Waitrose was full today.

LizzieMacQueen · 24/09/2020 20:18

Cruchies, the 4 pack are out of stock. But that might be a Halloween stocking up issue.

Waspnest · 24/09/2020 20:18

ALDI and LIDL both fine today (apart from the knitting needles I was looking for).

LassInTheNE · 24/09/2020 20:29

I was in five different shops yesterday, as I’m a prepper and in each one, the staff said they’ve seen more people buying extra stuff, including toilet rolls. I think there might be extra buying than usual, when the end of month wages come in. I’m in NI.

Wouldn't a prepper be already prepped? First time round the prepeers were done and dusted before the panic set it and had built up supplies over Jan and Feb.

Second wave peepers have been building up over summer to avoid having to run about five shops asking staff about toilet roll.

I don't think there's anything wrong with folk making sure they have enough supplies for two weeks in case they have to self isolate as a household, but doing it now, esp to the point you're having to go into five shops looking for stuff isn't preparing, it's panicking.

Bwlch · 24/09/2020 20:29

Aldi was out of distilled vinegar and ground coffee. Both on my list.

Bloody preppers.

Lovemusic33 · 24/09/2020 20:31

Loads of loo roll in Aldi earlier, piled high, looks like they have loads of stock, but apparently Asda has none. I didn’t check pasta as it’s not something I eat much of.

glueandstick · 24/09/2020 20:32

No coffee beans in Aldi. ITS THE END OF THE WORLD I TELL YOU.

whirlwindwallaby · 24/09/2020 20:35

Wouldn't a prepper be already prepped?
I have a certain number of tins of tomatoes, bags of pasta and so on. I use one, I replace it in the weekly shop and rotate by dates. I might have let them run down more before topping up in the past, but right now I want the cupboards fully stocked.

LilOldMe · 24/09/2020 20:36

@Bluewavescrashing

When Brexit hits there will be nothing.
I genuinely worry about this.
SallySeven · 24/09/2020 20:36

Absolutely no problems in our area.

Triangularbubble · 24/09/2020 20:37

Tesco here fully stocked. Except red onions, kitchen foil refill packs and my favourite flavour of Pringles, which I suspect has nothing to do with coronavirus. No apocalypse here.

whirlwindwallaby · 24/09/2020 20:39

I haven't been to five shops, but I went to Aldi to stock up on certain things, Sainsburys for the cat food, then Tesco for the regular weekly shop.

LassInTheNE · 24/09/2020 20:39

I don’t have a car so my friend lent me hers, and as I only had it for the day I bought the things that I need from each shop. I know it might shock you, but you can’t actually buy the same items in every single shop. Amazing that you don’t know that about shops.

You made it sound like your going around them all doing one big prep shop, which is why I said what I did.

When everyone is out gathering supplies as the shit starts hit to the fan, that's panicking.

Crockof · 24/09/2020 20:41

@insancerre

I’ve just been to the tapas bar and they ran out of cava
Fuck, that's serious
Plussizejumpsuit · 24/09/2020 20:41

No, food stock in various supermarkets is absolutely fine. Threads like this just stir up panic. What were you hoping to achieve @katie2812

OhKnackers · 24/09/2020 20:45

My MIL is a pain for this. She has over 100 toilet rolls left from the last panic buy she did, yesterday she went to Tesco and they only had 2 packs left on the shelf apparently(packs of 32) so she bought both. Then today she went to Costco and bought another, then macro for 2 more. It's bizarre. Who needs that much toilet roll? She's also been taking the last of all the paracetamol and now has a box filled with over 60 unopened packets. She bought 22 kitchen rolls. Only saving Grace is I don't think she got any pasta.

Itllbeaninterestingchristmas · 24/09/2020 20:56

What are people doing with all this toilet roll? And it’s not the worst thing to run out of, one can improvise.
On a more serious note there are no currants in the shops where I live. I had enough to make mincemeat but haven’t got any for baking or the Christmas cake and pudding.

FlibbertyGiblets · 24/09/2020 21:01

I had the last bottle of Sicilian lemon juice from Waitrose today.

Madcats · 24/09/2020 21:06

I bought the penultimate litre of semi skimmed goats milk from my Waitrose last night at about 8pm. Ordinarily I would have bought 2, but that felt wrong.

AND I have 1/2 kg of fresh yeast in my fridge, because the wholesaler who diversified into home deliveries sells it much cheaper than anywhere else I shop.

katie2812 · 24/09/2020 21:23

I started these threads because I kept seeing on daily mail posting aticles and saying they were running low on items and people were panic buying again

Yet my high street seemed fine, the local farm foods and so was curious to see whether it was fake news or people were panic buying again

I just came back from Aldi - shelves were full,. No restrictions on items so I feel it is only a small number of cases though seeing tpeoples responses on here I feel for them as I don't want to be in hour long queues with restrictions on what I can buy

As people always say - if you don't like a thread don't respond look away. I like online forums to communicate with others rather than relying on news to see what's the truth to see people's experiences
