Schools leaving windows open during winter

I have 2 children at school and my eldest has been told that windows will be open during the winter, they can wear coats. My nephew is in reception and my sil has been told the same.

I get why but seriously how can that be good for them?? I can't imagine them learning much if they're sat shivering.

oh yeah, here's that other thread...

The winds here are 20-40 mph all day & it's rained constantly (heavily). But sure, chuck 'em outside no matter what for 20 minutes twice a day. Great idea.

My daughter's school has decided that they can't be inside at break under any circumstances. Suggesting they take waterproof coats and brolly. So they'll be wet and cold some days I guess. Sounds miserable.

I'm fine with windows and doors open but DDs (secondary) school says they will be outside at lunch time, and to bring coats and umbrellas. They will be allowed in classrooms for "wet break". It rained heavily for 45 min of their wednesday lunch break but apparently this didnt qualify as a wet breakConfused

I imagine for high schools (and possibly junior schools) that to enable staff to get any break at all at lunch time, if they are outside a few teachers can be on a rota.if they are indoors they will need 1 teacher per classroom which means the teachers dont get a lunch break. I dont know what the answer is, the teachers are obviously entitled to a lunch break but sitting outside in the rain for 45 min is not much of a "break" for kids either.

We never used to be allowed inside at secondary even when it rained anyway, not sure if that's weird or not on reflection. I suppose the issue is that ideally you would have a hall or something with them all in so they're not across the classrooms, but at the moment that's not ideal. Tricky one, I hope they find some solutions, teachers have worked really hard to try and make it work as best as possible.
