Will we be clapping for the NHS again on Thursdays?

Is everyone dusting off their pots and pans in preparation?

No. Never again. It was pointless and excruciating the first time and would be even more hypocritical and contrived now.

They need proper pay rises, funding and equipment. Not clapping and pots and pans being banged.

DominaShantotto · 22/09/2020 13:16

No no no and no

It wasn't clapping round here - it became some kind of rainbow willy waving festival (and not in a Pride sense) of who could out-do each other on social media. We had houses with those Christmas light projection systems going rainbow mad, fireworks (muchly appreciated by pet owners working in the NHS - not, and they got abuse when they raised this with the masses), open-air vocal tributes with PA systems in front gardens, and the twats in our street who would blare their car horns for about 10 minutes continuously (and one had his clock set wrong so he went out 10 minutes early and then did it again).

It used to terrify my youngest child who was really struggling to sleep by then anyway as her mental health suffered and it made every week hellish for us.

EmMac7 · 22/09/2020 13:17

@PinkMacaron

One of the good things to come out of the lockdown is we at least now know which of our neighbours would be collaborators if the UK was ever invaded.
x 2.

We didn’t do it (our home is in a heavily Tory voting area where lockdown rules were frequently flouted by neighbours, and the hypocrisy was just too much) and came in for some very nasty treatment indeed.

I was shouted at by the woman next door over it at one point. 🥺

EmpressSuiko · 22/09/2020 13:29

Didn’t do the first time, won’t be doing it this time.

Tootletum · 22/09/2020 13:55

So... Let me get this straight, we are eager to clap for the only industry whose jobs are not at huge risk of redundancy? OK...

REDLIPSTICKANDNAILS · 22/09/2020 13:56

Absolutely not

Pomegranatepompom · 22/09/2020 13:59

@Tootletum nhs workers amongst others Of course - retail/ delivery/ schools are risking their lives more than people who can WFH. Why on earth has redundancy anything to do with showing appreciation for those who are risking more.

Kakiweewee · 22/09/2020 14:02

Nah. I'm supporting my NHS worker in the family by doing batch cooks and feeding them after long hard days. And helping them with housework. And keeping them company when they're stressed. Cause my mum is awesome.

ChaChaCha2012 · 22/09/2020 14:07

Didn't do it the first time round. But if the government commits to a proportionate pay rise for how many of us turn out, I'll personally go and drag every neighbour out. (And pigs might fly...)

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 22/09/2020 14:08

I’d rather campaign for them to have better pay, PPE etc.

The clapping here was mainly done by those not following the rules/guidelines.

Furrydog7 · 22/09/2020 14:11

I didn't do it last time and i will not do it again even if you offered to pay me and a mansion to boot. In my area it turned in to an excuse for my neighbours to have a mnoise competition and quite honestly i became disgusted as those who didn't do the stupid clap were shamed. The nhs needs to be properly funded

devildeepbluesea · 22/09/2020 14:14

I never did. I don't buy in to any measure designed to give our filthy, corrupt government a popularity boost.

I show my support by never, ever voting Tory.

Yankathebear · 22/09/2020 14:15

@Tootletum if you read the replies you will see that no one is eager to clap.

I am very grateful that I have a job and don’t need claps.

Dee1975 · 22/09/2020 14:43

Oh I hope not. But because I don’t appreciate or anything! But it turned into a ‘oh so an so isn’t clapping tonight’ and ‘where were you on Thursdays clap’
I’ll support the nhs by adhering to the rules.

NotAKaren · 22/09/2020 14:52

No thanks, a distraction from the shot show meanwhile the Tory party are taking advantage shoving millions possibly billions into the coffers of private companies run by their mates. I think it would be better to make sure you vote for people that are going to reward the NHS and carewokers with the pay they deserve.

Elephantday82 · 22/09/2020 15:00

God no 🙄

Clutterbugsmum · 22/09/2020 15:02

No they are doing the job they are paid to do. Granted it’s harder at the moment.
Or do you also want Mondays for the police, Tuesday for ambulance workers. Wednesday for shop workers. And other key workers

VeraPink · 22/09/2020 15:06

No way I’m starting that up again. It was nice once or twice then got absurd and annoying.

Thanx4theMmories · 22/09/2020 15:10

Didn't last time, wont this time. It's a service we pay for and has been largely closed off to us for 6 months.

PennyDreadfuI · 22/09/2020 15:26

Bollocks to that.

Pomegranatepompom · 22/09/2020 15:27

@Clutterbugsmum that’s not correct, people were/will be deployed to itu/covid wards. No one signed to for that. There were cardiac nurses looking after ventilated patients, ent drs looking after cancer patients etc. But most people pulled together to help.
Your attitude is quite sad tbh.

Okaro · 22/09/2020 17:46

Please No! Just No!

Batshitbeautycosmeticsltd · 22/09/2020 17:50

No.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 22/09/2020 17:52

It’s a no from me

Funkypolar · 22/09/2020 17:53

DH is military and somebody wanted them to do a Twitter video of them clapping in uniform. They all declined. Grin
