DS had a test Sunday afternoon after developing a cough most likely from the heavy cold he had but the cough is dry and persistent so got the test..

Guy who took our test said 24-48 hours.

He 48 hours this afternoon. When do I chase it up?!

What time of day to test results usually come through??

We are in the south west of England where cases are generally low.

I am so fed up 😫😫😫

Really thought DSs result would follow mine within an hour or two. Nope. Sat here dressed for work ready to bomb out the door the second results come through... but nothing.

It's infuriating.

Its utterly ridiculous. I wish I never rang up school for advice yest as my ds hasnt coughed once today so far and is bouncing around absolutely fine. He has test his morning at 10.30am this morning...

Same here! Almost identical situation, DS heavy cold but developed a cough, and that coupled with knowing school would send him home and ask for a test, took him 1.30pm on Sunday.

It specifically says you should not go for a test unless you have a high temp, a cough that has developed from no where and have reason to suspect it is covid.

You even say it came after a cold - which is a normal cold symptom.

Never mind 'Fuck you Boris' - people need to stop taking tests when theres no need.

Schools are not sending home pupils with colds btw and nor should they.

STOP ABUSING THE SYSTEM PEOPLE!

BlueGreyGreens · 23/09/2020 12:50

@StarUtopia where exactly does it specify that a cough after a cold doesn't require testing?

A persistent cough is a persistent cough regardless. You could have a cold AND have Covid.

I have no idea why you are berating people on this thread, people aren't putting themselves and their children through an unpleasant test followed by an excruciating wait in isolation for fun Hmm

Di11y · 23/09/2020 12:52

I waited 90 hours, the helpline was saying just keep isolating they are too busy to chase.

Lumene · 23/09/2020 13:07

I have taken a test due to symptoms and am unable to earn until it comes back negative. Over 72 hours now no idea if I will ever hear back.

I repeat: fuck you Boris.

chunkyrun · 23/09/2020 13:12

North west England here. Had a test Sunday. One of us has had a test back Monday. still waiting for results on another.

Mol1628 · 23/09/2020 13:39

@StarUtopia someone needs to tell schools this then because that’s why people I know are testing. They’re getting home because they have a bit of a cough and sniffles and refusing to let them back before they get a negative test.

No one wants to be taking the tests. Most people know it’s just a cold but what choice is there.

Lumene · 23/09/2020 14:13

They’re getting home because they have a bit of a cough

The cough will be why, that is one of the symptoms to get tested for and not the issue with misuse of tests.

missanony · 23/09/2020 15:05

76 hours and counting...

BlueGreyGreens · 23/09/2020 15:06

About to hit 72 here. I'm losing my mind.

In some ways others' slow results are reassuring though, I'm most worried that we won't get a result at all!

missanony · 23/09/2020 15:08

Yes I know what you mean Blue. The test is registered but 119 have no information. They’ve now escalated twice. Just got everything crossed they can go back in tomorrow.

SnapeSnapeSeverusSnape · 23/09/2020 15:17

It's actually got to the point that as long as my symptoms don't escalate I'm half hoping for a positive result, I've already been isolating for 6 of the 10 days, at least then I might have built up some immunity. As it is, I worry I won't get any result and will never know if I've had covid or just a flu bug.

tryingmybest29 · 23/09/2020 15:20

The reason why people are testing after a cold is because so many people are left with the cold and most schools will not have children in with a a cough.

DS had a cold last week. Cough started over the weekend.. I knew the school wouldn't have him in with a cough even though he gets a cough with every cold. It's unfair to say people are abusing the system. Just doing what they got to do ensuring their children go back to school and adults back to work. It's a terrible set up. I can see myself doing this loads with colds over the winter!!

Fingers crossed you all get your results soon. Seems to be such a variance around the country. Saying that even in my area. Someone I know who tested in the same place a day later than me got theirs less than 24 hours later whereas we waited 2.5 days. Crazy!

@StarUtopia Dd had a cold last week, started an occasional cough Saturday. Tested Sunday and it’s positive, pleased we tested!!

We had exactly the same experience but some people are determined to make up their own rules for some reason!

Lumene · 24/09/2020 11:15

Our test came back after 93 hours (negative)

shesellsseashells99 · 24/09/2020 11:38

Got my sons back this morning, had the test yesterday morning - negative result! Seems to be such a variation in times..

StatisticalSense · 24/09/2020 11:43

I suspect a lot of it is the 24 hour target by which a failure by one minute is treated the same as a failure by several days. As soon as the incentive is to get as many tests processed in a certain timeframe as soon as an individual test passes that time it will be placed at the bottom of the pile and only processed if and when there are no tests to process that could meet the target.

chunkyrun · 24/09/2020 15:15

Negative result on weds, test was taken Sunday

Lumene · 24/09/2020 16:30

Interesting @StatisticalSense

Perhaps they should go for an average target rather than absolute.
