Why should the SW be locked down with everyone else when cases are still low?

Obviously I have a vested interest in this, being in the SW, but cases here - south of Bristol - have been negligible, and have been at that level for months.

And yet we will have to be locked down with everyone else. I realise it's probably going to happen, but am a bit unimpressed that the disparity is not even being mentioned, because it's not London.

I agree with this and I live in the Midlands .

4 teachers.
Seem to be seeing more cases of multiple infections in schools than just one now

Our numbers are minimal and they've gone down this week. I read about lots of people not complying to the restrictions, but around here we're still SD even with masks. We went to our main town at weekend and you were in the minority if you didn't have a face mask in the street. I don't know of one neighbour, family member or work colleague (two jobs) who is socialising indoors. DD is 19 and a university student, she's been sat in the park in the dark at night in a small group and tells me there are other groups. I don't know why we're doing it, but it's paying off.

Also, surely, it's making the economy, jobs and mental wellbeing in this area stronger. Like I say, we're very strongly living within restrictions here, but there could come a time when it's us with increasing numbers and other areas decreasing, so surely each area should be able to live as normally as possible for as long as possible.

There have been zero cases in my town in the Northeast for ages and County Durham wasn't even on the watch list, but we've still ended up in local lockdown, so who knows, OP?
Make the most of it while you can.

2 year groups in nailsea school
1 backwell
1 nailsea primary.

Looks like a huge % of the cases here are schools

Sorry, but this is a stupid attitude OP. Prevention is better than cure and all that.

Why wouldn’t you want to take the actions to keep numbers low?

Plus, as PP have said, there’s still plenty of it about and I suspect numbers look lower then they are due the number of people who can’t/aren’t getting tested.

It's definitely becoming an issue in Cornwall. I think I read that there are 5 clusters throughout the county now. Lots of people in my area with coughs and cold symptoms. Sore throats etc. And barely any of them can access tests. Might just be the usual viruses but who knows?

I work in childcare and we've had so many children off over the last week or two. And most have had to self isolate as they can't get tests.

(Please excuse the giant links, I don't know how to make nice clicky ones on the app if it's doable).

Also not sure how reliable the case numbers are in the second link, but that there are multiple cases is certain.

I talk as someone who lives in Bristol hence I’m following the news most of days re numbers.

Bristol 550k population
Cases since March 1700
Deaths 250

Despite numbers are going up our numbers are still really low. People are starting not to flllow the rules so I hope the current ones slow a bit the spread. However, a local lockdown is no needed and would be bad for the city

Re unis there are 2 in the city and I know one them announced months ago that it was going to be online only.

Of course there is going to be positives and also affected schools. However, currently the city and the hospitals can manage it (the covid hospital that was buildt was dismantled after the inauguration without being used )

I never said that I wasn't going to follow the rules, of course we will. What's annoying me is that the disparity is not being mentioned at all.
