@SockYarn

They can fuck off with that one. We missed a holiday at Easter in Scotland. Another one in the summer. I have not spent a night away from home for a YEAR.

We have 5 nights booked on the Northumberland coast in October. Self-catering. We will be walking on the beach, geocaching, relaxing, wandering around, looking round NT gardens and so on. Just taking it easy and relaxing as a family unit.

We need this break. We need to get away. We have all had a shit summer and are preparing for a shit winter. We are not posing a danger to anyone, or anything.

They can fuck RIGHT off - Boris and Nicola - if they think we're not going.

The problem is that the word holiday can mean a lot of things. What you are describing does seem to be a very low risk scenario, especially if you can pair it with mask wearing when in the town to shop.

If people would have been behaving rationally so far then the restrictions would be more logical and less blanket-like. Imo.

Another problem is that you are going to be breaking the rules. In a very responsible way. But how can one tell who is breaking it in responsible way, or going on a pub crawl when they get to their holiday destination?

Imloosingmyshit · 21/09/2020 16:19

You can’t go anywhere ever again. EVER. AGAIN.

Ylvamoon · 21/09/2020 16:22

May be sensible to stop people holidaying abroad. But then, I think that the UK holiday economy needs a little boost to survive. So conclusion: go on holiday but please, PLEASE self isolate for 2weeks afterwards!!!

SockYarn · 21/09/2020 16:28

Why? Why should you self-isolate because you've been to another place in the UK?

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 21/09/2020 16:31

There are already isolation rules in place for those countries where transmission rates are high. Trouble is there are clearly lots of people ignoring them and carrying on regardless! Doesn't mean the rest of us should suffer and all international travel banned.

As for holidaying in the UK, I spent nearly as much on a few days in the Lakes earlier this year than I would have for a week in Spain. If we're required to holiday abroad, it needs to be more affordable.

Plus I would like to see tour operators survive through this so that we have a means to go abroad when it's all over. So I've done my bit by having a foreign holiday this year. Grin

Why? Where I’m going in the U.K. the infection rate is no higher than where I live. There are no additional restrictions there.

CathyandHeathcliff · 21/09/2020 19:34

Fingers crossed there won’t be travel restrictions Sad we are only going in our household, so I hope it’ll be allowed.

Me neither but there are many many people who never have a holiday EVER!!
kittensarecute · 21/09/2020 19:51

My mum's booked a week in Corfu in October, doesn't look like there's much hope she'll be going Sad

BBCONEANDTWO · 21/09/2020 19:55

I hope not but who knows I got Tenerife booked and the flight's not been cancelled so if we don't go we don't get a refund. Have to self-isolate though.

AlohaMolly · 21/09/2020 20:05

We’ve got a camper van booked for a week on Saturday Sad

CathyandHeathcliff · 21/09/2020 20:08

I really can’t see them stopping ‘staycation’ holidays. As they are a big part of the economy and especially for tourism areas. I guess travel restrictions may be an issue though, but I haven’t heard that touted as a possible part of this announcement tomorrow.

CathyandHeathcliff · 21/09/2020 20:09

If they allow people to go abroad for holidays, then they can’t stop people having staycations either.

Totally get this - we've only managed one holiday this year when we normally spend 4-5 weeks away each year. Total first world problem but holidays are so important and it's so tough not having them.
ChalkDinosaur · 21/09/2020 20:13

I really doubt that it'll be banned entirely. Advice in North East is not to go on holiday with anyone outside your household/bubble, so I would expect similar to that.

Coffeeandcrumpet · 21/09/2020 20:22

I love the way people say "but where were going has really low rates“ that's great, I livenin an area with really low rates, we do not want you coming to holiday here if you are coming from somewhere with high rates.
I really hope the new measures mean people have to stay in their county.

Katjolo · 21/09/2020 20:28

Yes

thebeachismyhappyplace2 · 21/09/2020 20:34

What time is the announcement?

CamelotSweetheart · 21/09/2020 20:37

My DD has started at uni this term and I have booked to visit their uni town at half term. It's going to be emotionally tough on us both if I can't go.

MozzchopsThirty · 21/09/2020 20:39

@Thismummyruns we are planning to go to Greece this weekend

We're hovering over what to do, I'm just worried about having the virus, being asymptomatic and then being ill in Greece

I hope you get to go 🤞🏻

ohthegoats · 21/09/2020 20:44

I have not spent a night away from home for a YEAR.

I went away the first night we were allowed to - 4th July - sleeping somewhere was flippin' great. Hadn't thought about it until i was getting into the different bed.

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 21/09/2020 20:44

My money's on shutting pubs at 10pm (much good that will do).

luckylavender · 21/09/2020 21:12

@SockYarn - Well you're not the only one but we're in the middle of a global health crisis & no one has the right to a holiday. It's not that many generations ago that people would laugh at our entitlement today.

Yes, totally agree.

SockYarn · 21/09/2020 21:32

Yeah, and a few generations there was no contraception, no votes for women and no welfare state.

Ridiculous comparison because we're not "a few generations ago" we're in 2020. Hmm
