Have you been going into non food shops?

Clothes etc and what not?
If so how have you found it?

I've ventured out a few times and John Lewis and Primark have been the best with their precautions. It's starting to feel really risky and not worth it now though, less people wearing masks etc. I think all the lockdown rumours have got to me, I was supposed to be popping into town tomorrow to get a few bits and now it feels like a silly thing to do!

Are you still going into non essential shops at the moment?

I’ve been to a few craft or fabric stores. Sometimes for mask supplies, sometimes just for fun projects. I don’t browse anymore, just run in and get what I need and leave.

ohthegoats · 20/09/2020 22:40

Yes. Went for a wander today.

I've not seen anyone without a mask.

purpleme12 · 20/09/2020 22:41

Yes clothes shops a fair few times really.
It's been fine.
I'm almost as worried about the economy as I am about the whole covid thing

CathTurnbull · 20/09/2020 22:42

I don’t go to any shops as unfortunately there still seem to be a high percentage of people that don’t comprehend social distancing.
I didn’t like being around people before Covid and I definitely don’t now!

ShanghaiDiva · 20/09/2020 22:43

I did yesterday as needed to go to building society. Didn’t see anyone in a shop without a mask on. Lakeland, primark and M&s all monitoring the number of customers going in and out.

TheMurk · 20/09/2020 22:43

Seriously?

justasking111 · 20/09/2020 22:45

Went yesterday Boots and New Look. I did not see anyone without a mask inside and would have presumed they had good reason not to wear one if I had. Plenty of social distancing we have a 2 metre rule in Wales.

Estrellente · 20/09/2020 22:45

I have, mostly to return online orders or to run in for one specific item. I’m not browsing anymore, I hate the masks too much to stick around in there.

CherryPavlova · 20/09/2020 22:45

Had a very enjoyable pottering shop on Saturday. Waterstones for a book club book, Neals Yard for some hand sanitiser and face cream, looked in Joules for a new waterproof for my husband to no avail, Waitrose for a butternut squash then a coffee outside and then some footlet socks for our daughter, for work. Gentle but pleasurable.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 20/09/2020 22:46

No, but not because of risk, just because I don’t enjoy the experience with a mask, one way systems, no trying on etc.

Since March I have been to:

Paperchase for an academic year diary
H&M to buy a blouse I had seen online, then again to return it
WH Smith’s for an A4 pad
Oliver Bonas for cards
John Lewis (just walked through on my way home from work to see if the Christmas department was open. It was not.)

We get shopping delivered as we don’t have a car (we always did this pre-lockdown) but I am regularly going to the M&S food hall for bits and pieces, as it’s closest, and have bought some pants and pyjamas there. I always think it’s really well set up, and I am comfortable in the store.

MayFayre · 20/09/2020 22:48

The only shops I go to are the pet food store and the local farm shop. Everything else is online.

SBTLove · 20/09/2020 22:48

Yes, I’m in Scotland, went to Dunelm, Next and Hobbycraft today in a retail park and they are counting ppl entering and leaving store to limit how many are in and everyone has masks on with sanitiser at doors.

Such a quintessentially MN shopping trip! Grin

Yes ... I work in one Hmm. Fortunately plenty of people are still happy to go shopping ... all reasonable precautions in place of course.

shinynewapple2020 · 20/09/2020 22:52

Not very often , but then I mainly shop online anyway and have been buying less as I'm not going out much and am working from home in my scruffs .

SockYarn · 20/09/2020 22:54

Going into a shop really isn't risky. Given that you need to spend 15 minutes face to face with someone to be at risk. Hardly likely, mask or no mask.

EvenMoreFuriousVexation · 20/09/2020 22:57

I've been shopping as normal since shops reopened. I'd say it totally depends on the shop and area in regards to your experience. They're all different.

I'm in Sheffield. Almost everyone here is wearing masks in shops. I haven't gone specifically counting but I'd guess 9 out of 10 at the minimum.

Distancing is not so closely observed here. All shops I've been in have chevrons on the floor to space out queues, but while you're on the shop floor it's generally a free for all.

Redolent · 20/09/2020 22:58

Yes, popped into multiple shops today. Mask compliance is near 100% where I live (SE) so it doesn’t feel risky in the slightest.

Audreyhelp · 20/09/2020 22:58

I went to the next sale yesterday . It was lovely and empty .

PickAChew · 20/09/2020 22:59

All summer I've only gone into any shop with a specific goal. It's just been too much of a bloody faff on.

I did have an enjoyable browse around our own tkmaxx, the other week, but didn't enjoy the bus journey home with the local college back.

Ginger1982 · 20/09/2020 23:00

I've been to a few clothes shops but having to wear a mask and not being able to try anything on spoils it for me so I won't be rushing back.

Putmynewshoeson · 20/09/2020 23:00

I know I'm being a bit ridiculous I think my health anxiety is kicking in again, I've done so well to manage it during the pandemic

I think I'll still go tomorrow

I've been to the same amount of shops i went to before lockdown, but a) i work in one so its normal surroundings and b) I'm in West Wales, so cases are low (so far)

CuppaZa · 20/09/2020 23:11

Been to many shop, all fine apart from Ikea. They may have arrows, separate entrance and exits and hand gel, but literally NO ONE distanced. Literally no one. I’d avoid Ikea in SE.

pooiepooie25 · 20/09/2020 23:15

I love shopping and I feel a lot more safe than I do teaching every day.
The majority of people have been wearing masks.
I actually thought Primark was the worst- most people wearing masks but it was heaving and no social distancing in the queues.
