Have you been going into non food shops?

Clothes etc and what not?
If so how have you found it?

I've ventured out a few times and John Lewis and Primark have been the best with their precautions. It's starting to feel really risky and not worth it now though, less people wearing masks etc. I think all the lockdown rumours have got to me, I was supposed to be popping into town tomorrow to get a few bits and now it feels like a silly thing to do!

Are you still going into non essential shops at the moment?

Been to a fair few shops since things opened back up; Boots, Dunelm, Clinton's, Next, local town centre, garden centre... All been fine. I'm very "hands, face, space" and been going in the week when it's quiet.

AlwaysLatte · 20/09/2020 23:18

Hardly any since March - I've been getting everything online. I had to do a flurry of shops before school restarted and I found it a real pain. Not in a hurry to go back unless necessary!

MargotLovedTom1 · 20/09/2020 23:22

Yes, been in loads ever since things opened back up. All fine.

MargotLovedTom1 · 20/09/2020 23:23

Well, apart from my dislike of wearing a mask but it is what it is.

OpheliasCrayon · 20/09/2020 23:24

I don't like shopping anyway but have been in some for stuff i need. I find it pointless for clothes and order online because you can't try on in the shops. Where I live a massive number of people don't wear face coverings and never have. there's no distancing and never had been either . I do cover my face but don't bother with distancing because literally no one does. Don't ask me why our area doesn't but we never had food shortages either. We are a big city/ area and have alwsys had low numbers of cases despite people of all ages not caring about much. I've often wondered why that is, as it's always been evident SD has never existed and face coverings are used minimally

Tangledyarn · 20/09/2020 23:32

A bit, not loads but I didnt loads before! When I have Its felt very safe, small numbers people wearing masks, hand sanitizer on entry.

ColleagueFromMars · 20/09/2020 23:40

Pet food shops probably count as good shopping, right? I had a lovely browse in pets at home yesterday because it was empty!

Otherwise, no. I'm supporting the economy with plenty of online shopping for clothes, bedding, computer accessories, gifts, postage, cake...

Kanaloa · 21/09/2020 00:50

Yes, I’ve been lots of places. Most people have had masks on and everywhere has had sanitiser available. If someone crowds up to me I just move away, but I would have done that pre-covid, I hate people in my personal space. The only thing that’s been really annoying is that you can’t try clothes on. I’ve not bought any clothes since it all started because I can’t be bothered returning them.

gadansk · 21/09/2020 01:14

Not really, I'm not especially worried about picking the virus up in shops but its just not much fun with queues and masks, items having to be put aside if anyone touches them. I do basically agree with masks and the measures but they do rather take the enjoyment out of a browse round the shops and a coffee somewhere so I just haven't been doing it, right now I prefer shopping online.

Enrico · 21/09/2020 01:50

I have and it's been bad then good now bad again. The first time I went in a few shops was just after masks came in and everywhere was heaving so I just walked out of everywhere I went. That was a miserable trip. Then it seemed to calm down and was fine for a while but this weekend my goodness, just packed, no distancing, no one counting numbers, shoppers ignoring entrance and exit flows and wandering in in large groups, massive queues cheek by jowel, so went home and bought what I could from Amazon. Don't really like doing that but everywhere was disorganised when they hadn't been previously. Don't know what was up with that.

Pachonga · 21/09/2020 02:17

I’ve been inside a pharmacy for a flu jab and bought a couple of things whilst I was in there but other than that. no. I’m not particularly concerned with catching Covid in shops now as we know that’s not really a risk, but I’ve always disliked supermarket shopping so was happy to go completely home delivery for that. Have bought everything else online too, just wouldn’t enjoy in-person shopping right now

safariboot · 21/09/2020 02:35

Browsed The Works and CeX yesterday.

I find supermarkets worse. They're big and there's a lot of people, they're back to "normal" being crowded, and mask compliance seems poor. Smaller shops seem better at not letting themselves get rammed.

Nanalisa60 · 21/09/2020 02:41

I’m not going any wear but Lidl and Aldi, only because they are not to big, I hate wearing the masks , the thought of going round the shops in a mask makes me feel sick!! It’s such a shame I loved shopping before, but now can’t see myself going into a shop for a long time.

redlockscelt · 21/09/2020 03:10

No, probably not since last year when I did the Xmas shopping.

Itllbeaninterestingchristmas · 21/09/2020 03:42

Not really, just been to the garden centre a few times, hardware store and a cheapo small local department store. It’s too difficult with a newborn and a toddler and I don’t have a double buggy because we hardly go anywhere. The toddler was great out and about but has turned feral over lock down.

Topseyt · 21/09/2020 04:12

I've been to plenty of shops and had no problems apart from the fact that I don't particularly like wearing a mask.

Concerned7777 · 21/09/2020 04:58

Nope. I dont like shopping at the best of times but to do it now with a mask on is a none starter. I find them really uncomfortable especially when my asthma is playing up I would take no pleasure at all browsing through the shop when I feel like I can't breathe. The only shop I've been into was the school uniform shop, anything else is bought online. Im on friendly terms with the DPD and hermes delivery guys.

HeronLanyon · 21/09/2020 05:02

Since March I’ve not been into any other than food shops, robert dyas (obviously) and chemists. I need to get to a Ryman soon - not sure how I will deal with the excitement and sensory overload !!

TheGreatWave · 21/09/2020 07:26

Yes, possibly not as much but I have been. Over the weekend I have used our local parade of shops, used Tesco, hardware shop, bakery and charity shop.

Shooglywheel · 21/09/2020 07:37

I’ve been once and it was the most soulless experience. Our local shopping centre has human roundabouts. You are actively discouraged from handling clothing and changing rooms are shut. I’m not going anywhere to wear nice clothes and apart from work I’m living in jogging bottoms.
I can get what I need mail order.

yeOldeTrout · 21/09/2020 08:54

Charity shops (even for a mere browse).
I've 'needed' things from other non-food shops.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 21/09/2020 09:24

No, I can get everything online we need so supporting the economy that way. Too many not SD or not bothering with masks and as shops can’t insist on them I’ll continue to avoid.

Itsabeautifuldayheyhey · 21/09/2020 09:30

I've only been into M&S and Peacocks as both are local to me. Hardly any shoppers in either until this weekend when there were actually queues (properly social-distanced) at M&S. I think they were caught off guard as only one person serving in the till area. It felt quite safe. Everyone in masks.

viccat · 21/09/2020 09:35

No but I rarely do anyway because the shops in my local area are not great and I don't have a car. Much, much easier to shop online and have access to a much wider range of stuff. I definitely wouldn't take the bus or train now just to go to the shops, even if it's low risk it doesn't feel worth the risk.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 21/09/2020 09:40

I have. I needed clothes that fit.
Considering a trip around the shops in town one day this week to get sticking fillers sooner rather than later this year.
