Started today sorting out bits for a booked in tip run, ending it thinking "do I need to prep for a lockdown"

Does anyone else feel like today has accelerated from bimbling along trying to do your Covid bit to, oh god not again. In like 6 small hours.

Nope...I've stopped listening to the news. My mental health has improved loads

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 18/09/2020 18:49

Yep. Started last night for me when I was reading rumblings of another lockdown and read the nhs workers thread where they've been briefed to prepare.

Im scared. Im high risk but not extremely high risk so its nerver entirely clear cut what J should do. And im scared my kids will bring it home.

OldQueen1969 · 18/09/2020 18:50

I'm with you OP.

I have a shop.

I can't stay away from the news to improve my metal health cos I have to be on my toes in every area.

viccat · 18/09/2020 18:51

For me it was when Ocado emailed this morning to say slots are getting booked up quickly and to book ahead. It reminded me of those early lockdown weeks when shopping suddenly became stressful with an hour's queue to websites...

BabyLlamaZen · 18/09/2020 18:52

Be prepared for the worst, so you can manage if needs be and have things in place:) and all is good if it's better than we think!

frozendaisy · 18/09/2020 18:53

Still doing tip run tomorrow!

I want to take my kids out of school Sad. They were back a week before DS came down with something and we're in to our first week of self isolation while he waits for his test result.
I was terrified to send them initially and for a week or so I thought maybe I had over reacted (not unusual for me tbf) and that maybe thing would turn out okay after all. Wrong again!
If his test result comes back this weekend, and it is negative (which I am almost certain it will be) then I will have to send them back in on Monday into a situation that isn't safe for our family. Been in bits about it all afternoon. I'm actually in shock at the speed with which things have all gone tits up again.

Shitfuckoh · 18/09/2020 19:09

@Beebityboo
You could always say his test result is negative but he's really not well enough to attend yet due to constantly dozing / lack of energy etc?
That way you've informed the school about the result - meaning the staff don't need to worry whether they've been around a confirmed case but also bought yourself a little time to see what happens over the next week or so?

Waxonwaxoff0 · 18/09/2020 19:12

No. I'm carrying on like I did before the first lockdown. I have no control over what happens, so there is no point me worrying.

I'm anticipating probably losing my job and my home if another lockdown happens. I've resigned myself to it.

This^^

Waiting for our results after having our tests this morning.

We've done a big online order this afternoon to try and get stocked up again.

I had the same email and booked another slot. We were on their shielding list and hope we will still continue to get slots if there's another lockdown, or whatever this shit government of ours plans to do.

Seeing threads about items starting to appear out of stock adds fuel to fire and mass panic. I have to keep up to date with the news / current advice due to work. I'm broken and grieving the recent loss of my mil. Life has been so bleak but has got much worse since the schools returned.

yeOldeTrout · 18/09/2020 19:39

I'm in the 80% of England not in England, in the 50% that has low or very low prevalence. Not worrying about things beyond my control.

yeOldeTrout · 18/09/2020 19:39

ha! stupid typo... I mean 80% of England not in extra enhanced measures... ooh well.

@PineappleUpsideDownCake I feel the same. Scared and scared that my daughter will get it in school or bring it home
Beebityboo · 18/09/2020 19:41

I might just say that I have now developed symptoms. Not exactly a lie as all of the stress and lack of sleep has made me feel like death. I really hate to be dishonest with the schools but I am being left without choice. It's just awful. I posted here loads on the run up to them opening about how worried I was but the head of my DC's primary made me seem like I was being hysterical and cases were just low enough for me to feel like it might be alright. I promised myself I would pull them if cases rose and here we are.

I should have gone with my gut and not sent them back in the first place, it will be harder now that they have been with their friends etc. Even I didn't expect things to get shit so quickly.

MissPoldark · 18/09/2020 19:43

Yes! I seem to remember the start of it might have even been a Mumsnet thread about stockpiling reported in the daily mail.

What exactly would you need to prep for a lockdown? Surely we’ve learnt that this kind of unnecessary last minute “prepping” actually leads to shortages and causes hell.

I couldn’t get any flour for weeks but my neighbour, who never bakes, ended up with a stash that she didn’t know what to do with!

glitterelf · 18/09/2020 19:49

@MissPoldark It's utter madness and pure greed and fear. I've just been to morrisons where my son works it was fine plenty on the shelves, however he's just text me thar they are putting all the covid barriers back up outside so they are preparing for the storm.

SonjaMorgan · 18/09/2020 19:56

I am definitely better prepared this time round. We always have extra food in due to the way I shop (live in the middle of nowhere) so no last minute panic buying here. I have used the summer to try and sort out our finances and gain a few extra income streams as I am self employed.

We all knew it was coming. I am now more concerned of the impact a no deal Brexit could have on top of this.

WickedEmoji · 18/09/2020 20:02

Where is the NHS thread people keepntalkkng about please? This is the second time I have seen it mentioned on threads

user1497207191 · 18/09/2020 20:02

I'm actually in shock at the speed with which things have all gone tits up again.

Why? It's exactly what happened in March. That's what exponential growth means - very fast growth.

CaraDuneRedux · 18/09/2020 20:08

Flowers @Waxonwaxoff0. I hope it doesn't come to that for you. Sad

Just going to bumble on. I'll be gutted if they do go for lockdown as DS's mental health and education suffered so much last time round, and (back in the office half the week) I feel like I'm just beginning to get back on top of my life. Not so worried about supermarkets - was recovering from surgery at the start of the last lockdown which meant I was completely stuffed as I couldn't carry shopping bags and couldn't get delivery slots either - at least this time round I'll be well enough to go to the shops.
