When they say they cannot rule out another national lockdown, as a last resort, what does this mean?

Will it be the same as the first lockdown? E.g no leaving houses unless for exercise or essential shopping etc, will all schools and non essential businesses be closed up again?

I hate 2020.

A mass eye-sight drive to Barnyard Castle?

Pinkmakeupbag · 18/09/2020 18:38

I wonder that too.

I can't imagine they'd tell people to limit exercise like before. Can't imagine places like McDonalds takeaway closing again or even non essential retail.

They keep saying the spread is happening by household visiting each other, but I can't see many people abiding by the rules again.

notevenat20 · 18/09/2020 18:39

No social mixing, some sort of curfew. Those were my guesses.

Pinkmakeupbag · 18/09/2020 18:42

Can't imagine things like hairdressers are causing too many problems either.

It's household mixing and pubs imo.

Not sure why the classed for example swimming pools as higher risk than pubs.

Augustbreeze · 18/09/2020 18:43

I think they'll try to make it lockdown lite at first - like in some of the currently restricted areas. When this doesn't work, they will go to something like last time, but maybe with a few exceptions?

Qasd · 18/09/2020 18:43

I think it would be lighter than before given we know some places/ activities are very low virus risk. I imagine for example things like national trust gardens will stay open, they will allow unlimited outside excessive with people in your household. I agree that with masks and social distancing non essential retail will probably stay open.

Alas I think schools will shut which is actually the i thing that matters most to me!

Oly4 · 18/09/2020 18:45

It will be closing pubs early, only
socialising in your bubble etc. You will be able to go out to eat and shop I imagine, even to the cinema and a restaurant. I doubt we’ll return to full lockdown. If people behave we’ll be fine

Oly4 · 18/09/2020 18:45

I doubt they’ll shut schools. They’ve been saying that will be the last thing to go

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 18/09/2020 18:46

I hate the not knowing
Im okay if I have a plan (ok maybe not financially this time....) but I hate when its up in the air.

Pinkmakeupbag · 18/09/2020 18:47

I pray they don't close the schools again.

I don't want to live in a world where we prioritise pubs over schools.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 18/09/2020 18:47

If they close non essential businesses they'll have to reintroduce some sort of furlough. I think they'll do anything to avoid that.

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 18/09/2020 18:47

Melbourne has had home scbooling for a long time now. And stricter locksown than us (with lower numbers?). 1 or 2 hours of exercise a day. Need a reason to be out .

I
Theyve said they wont do seiss payments again. We will be on UC 🙄

ohthegoats · 18/09/2020 18:49

For me personally it will be exactly as it is now. Taking child to school, going to work, partner working at home, everything being delivered, distanced visits to my parents garden.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 18/09/2020 18:51

My guess is a curfew for pubs/restaurants to start with and if that doesn't work maybe they'll do takeaway only.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 18/09/2020 18:53

The problem is, if they order non essential business to close and don't offer financial support then people will just ignore it. If it comes down to losing your home and not being able to feed your kids then people just won't comply.

Mamascoven · 18/09/2020 18:56

@Oly4
I like your optimism. I hope to god the government put schools first but you never know. Things can change in the flick of a switch.

Mintjulia · 18/09/2020 18:58

I think they'll limit shops rather than close them. Masks required everywhere. Limit licensing hours. Ban socialising between households. WFH again where possible. Sad

Schools will be the last to close.

Redlocks28 · 18/09/2020 19:02

I suspect that things will really kick off in the next 3/4 weeks with the universities going back.

The government will then start twatting around with local lockdowns and then panic and do another national lockdown.

SpecialWGM · 18/09/2020 19:10

North West is in a lockdown from Tuesday and have been told to not see anyone outside of our bubble, only use public transport if necessary and there are curfews. No idea about whether you can go out but there was something about table service in eating establishments so I am guessing that the economy comes before health (again).

MagpieSong · 18/09/2020 19:17

@Phoenix21, that made me chuckle! Grin

I think probably Uni’s doing distance learning, pub curfew (wish they’d blooming shut), separate households not being allowed to meet indoors, majority appointments with NHS being cancelled, dentists closing again, limiting shops, restaurants closing or being limited in some way, possible revoking of having a partner present at the 20 week scan, people being told to stay in their local area and not travel, people working from home - except builders who for some inexplicable reason can carry on. I think they’ll continue whack a mole for a while, though. I think they need to relook at schools and realise that we need Test and Trace running prior to opening anyway. Oh and the Government blaming the public for rising numbers because some people followed the advice to eat out to help out or go on holiday.

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 18/09/2020 19:18

So we think schools will be last unlike in melbourne. What is europe doing?

I

ListeningQuietly · 18/09/2020 19:25

I just read the Melbourne rules.
How are people who are self employed affording food?
Home schooling - who is making sure that vulnerable kids get it ?

and all this focus on pubs
FFS some of the peak clusters are in areas with very low levels of alcohol consumption

Vinorosso74 · 18/09/2020 19:30

I couldn't handle the schools closing again! The government have been very keen to get people back to the workplace and some employers have followed that which I don't think is right. If people can work from home then they still should.

GameSetMatch · 18/09/2020 19:33

IMO another lockdown won’t be as severe as the first, I think things will shut early, people will be told to WFH again but everything else will stay the same, I’m not sure if I agree with it but that’s all I think will happen.

annabel85 · 18/09/2020 19:34

Schools open, go to work, no other social interaction outside of your own home unless you're spending money.

This will be winter.
