Absolutely dreading another lockdown or restrictions

Just that really. Really tearful today at the thought of not going to my parents house again.

I hate this. I wish he'd tell us the plans so we could prepare mentally. This is going to be the shittest winter.

I’m someone who’s fully on board with all the covid restrictions and takes it very seriously, but I hate the thought of a lockdown too. I don’t want to give up activities that have become a staple for us in recent months - library visits, trips out to zoos and parks, outdoor meetups, etc. The situation in March / April / May really was horrible.

That's a different argument though. loulouljh's point was that the SW didn't see a rise in infections despite being very busy.

I'm not arguing against further restrictions. I understand the need for them. But like other posters I'm dreading their impact.

I do notice that social distancing is not what it was in June & July once things started re-opening. I teach classes at gyms & clubs. In the studios it's great, marks on the floor where people stand but increasingly I notice people come up close to me to speak maybe half a metre and if I move back they close the gap. Groups of individuals sitting round small tables in the cafe all very close together. People standing chatting in narrow corridors so you have to squeeze past maybe half a metre away, same in the loos & at one club, 3 members of management pretty much blocking reception by all talking to each other again maybe half a metre apart.
It was not like this on 25th July when gyms & clubs re-opened but over the last month and a half a fatigue or relaxation has gradually occured - these are not drunk youngsters, these are in the main 40/50/60 years olds all nice and polite etc but just either forgetting or not bothering.
I am sure youngsters getting drunk and perhaps returning holiday makers are contributing and now schools are back, again that is a factor but generally, I do notice fewer people are not properly socially distancing.
If 6 people not from the same household meet for coffee, they are still meant to all sit 2 metres apart - this hardly makes for a social chat so many sit closer and the management don't enforce the distancing either.
I teach and go home. It is my income but I really notice it.

@Chessie678

The situation in Spain seems strong evidence that strict lockdowns don’t work long term. Spain imposed a completely inhumane and massively damaging lockdown for no obvious long term gain and has destroyed its economy in doing so. And the mandatory masks everywhere doesn’t seem to be helping much. Maybe we should learn from that.
If only we could learn from this but we seem stuck on a broken record of lockdown as the solution

@BillieEilish

Christ, in Spain we are just getting on with it and doing anything we can.

We wear masks without complaint. Everybody. No exceptions.
We lockdown locally without complaint
Schools shut without complaint if there is a dager of spread

We STFU and understand that governments are doing the best they can and there is a Pandemic. Nobody knows what to do except for trying to save lives.

Sorry you are in tears. None of us are ecstatic either, but the attitude in the UK is extraordinary.

Why is complaining a bad thing? Does my mask become less effective if I dislike wearing it? If I come home and complain about it to my husband, do all those people I have "protected" by wearing a mask suddenly drop dead? No? Then I'm going to complain all I want thanks!

The Spanish didn't complain. Their rates are appalling. Maybe complaining is good?
