so says Mark Drayford the first minister of Wales.

A chilling and sad phrase, in my opinion. I feel absolutely desperate today. Does anybody believe Mr J and his government have anythin gto offer at all?

I mentioned that we would have been better off the last six months with Gordon Brown at the helm on a thread the other day, and was ridiculed. But I'm right 😬

HesterShaw1 · 18/09/2020 21:47
The Times is not a fan of Johnson.
randomer · 18/09/2020 21:48

Oh Lordy, got me Dray and Drake confused again. Anyway the man makes more sense than any of the nonsense I am hearing.

His words today really resonated with me. There is such a huge ideology split in the UK today and it’s sad that we can’t put out differences aside and work together on this. It is ignorant and arrogant that Boris shows so little respect for the leaders of the devolved nations, and for local community leaders . It is the exact opposite of effective leadership

ballsdeep · 18/09/2020 21:52

@HesterShaw1

Drakeford. Drakeford.

Not Drayford.

No wonder the Welsh and Scots get pissed off.

I agree!! FFS.

I feel much more protected by Drakeford than bloody Boris!
Kirsty Williams made the right choices with schools too back in the summer.

randomer · 18/09/2020 21:56

I never , ever refer to Mr J by his middle name. It sickens me.

TeaAndHobnob · 18/09/2020 22:24

even the really shit ones

Yep.

I can't add anything that hasn't already been said. I would vote for any previous PM in place of Johnson if we could right now... I would take them gladly. Even Thatcher and I'm a life long Labour voter.

Iggly · 18/09/2020 22:28

All we needed from this government was investment in the public sector.
Invest in the NHS.

Invest in local government.

Central government have not done this.

The “NHS” testing is falling apart because Boris went for private sector firms.

The covid response fell apart because Boris won’t give enough money to schools or local government.

The reason for lockdowns is to hide the fact that they’d gutted the NHS and Adult Social care sector and it can’t cope with Covid.

It is disgusting.

Iggly · 18/09/2020 22:29

You were right.

We need a government that can plan for different scenarios. Ultimately a government with empathy.

It has none.

The Chancellor is a rich privately educated kid who’s priorities were to get people out in restaurants.

For
Fucks
Sake

And the threats of new restrictions are to mask the failure of the testing situation.

Contemptible incompetence

Iggly · 18/09/2020 22:50

@HesterShaw1

Exactly

The previous lot of restrictions were to “protect” the NHS. The NHS wouldn’t need protection if it had been properly funded - they’ve been asking for enough money for well over a decade!

The government knows that the NHS needs investment. An ageing population which lives longer needs more money. But they were (are) reluctant to give it.

And the irony is, all of these lockdowns will cost 10, maybe 100 times more than what the NHS was asking for in the first place.

randomer · 18/09/2020 22:51

Brown is a decent human being.

It really does feel like there’s an absence at the centre.

This is not the premiership Boris anticipated — it was supposed to be all Brexit and new beginnings blah blah. But he’s got coronavirus to deal with instead, an invisible enemy he can’t defeat with jingoistic nationalism. So he’s withdrawn.

He’s the wrong man at the wrong time.

Bluelinings · 19/09/2020 01:40

The government had no heart or empathy. It’s true. And that attitude has infected a small but growing number of the public.

Inkpaperstars · 19/09/2020 02:16

There is a vacancy. This situation made me think the other day....Cometh the hour, Cometh the....hello? Hello?

ChavvySexPond · 19/09/2020 03:08

@Rosehip10

And what has mark drayford done in Wales that is so revolutionary compared to others parts of the UK? Nothing.
The Welsh Ambulance Service administered Covid tests this past weekend when Westminster limited the Serco testing facilities to 120 tests a day.

Mark Drakeford has been leading from the front and living in a shed at the bottom of his garden to protect his wife who has been Shielding.

Wales has often timed things better than England.

ChavvySexPond · 19/09/2020 03:10

Same.
ChavvySexPond · 19/09/2020 03:12

@randomer

Brown is a decent human being.
And a competent one who would read and listen and bloody give a shit about British people dying.
Figmentofmyimagination · 19/09/2020 08:33

We need an Angela merkel.

RHTawneyonabus · 19/09/2020 09:04

Wasn’t very impressed with Gordon Brown at the time. But the more things that happen the more I think the he was right about so much stuff (child poverty for eg).

Most PMs of the past had a vision and a desire to ‘improve’ the country (even though we/they might have strongly disagreed about what that improvement should be) but this PM is without any driving force other than to retain power by stoking populism and dividing people

eufycurious · 19/09/2020 09:16

@HesterShaw1 it's not just The Times. Your man has been rumbled as the incompetent, lying charlatan he really is.

eufycurious · 19/09/2020 09:21

The man, not your!

eufycurious · 19/09/2020 09:23

I agree about Gordon Brown. He made mistakes, but he is a decent human being. He would not be repeating the care home debacle which England is seemingly about to.

Stinkyguineapig · 19/09/2020 09:46

For some reason someone at work keeps putting the radio onto 5 live and we hear all the political stuff. I just can't listen to BJ bumbling and bullshitting his way through PMQs.
And all the cabinet just reinforce the lies and bullshit.
I would even take one of the scripted, insincere, copy and paste MP apologies how they've made mistakes and lessons will be learned etc etc over the constant gaslighting that we're all (the whole poulation) imagining having problems with testing and that track and trace isnt working.
And I said right at the start that I would hope a cross party alliance could be formed in this sort of emergency situation but a) half BJs own party dont want to/cant work with him, and b) he probably wants to singlehandedly claim all the credit and kudos for anything (despite the fact theres nothing anyone could be remotely proud of happening)

BestIsWest · 19/09/2020 09:54

Gordon Brown was a decent and honourable man. As is Mark Drakeford. Boris Johnson is not.
