What’s it like where you are?

I’m in Somerset.

Cases numbers are very low with only 1 hospital admission. 2 schools sent home bubbles, but not near me.

My schools are operation masks on corridors, socially distanced seating, one way systems and staggered plays. No cases local to me.

Things seem to be working well.

I’d be interested to know what it is like where you are?

cases falling where I work, and where DD is living at University, but 19 in the last 7 days when I live.

Tomatoesneedtoripen · 18/09/2020 07:12

how do you find out hospital admission data?

kimlo · 18/09/2020 07:15

we have just had the restrictions increased to avoid a full lockdown. so not that well.

Atalune · 18/09/2020 07:17

Our local paper has link to the local data, which covers each of the district councils and the 2 hospitals.

Case info where I am is irrelevant because no one in this area seems able to get a test. So who knows!

middleager · 18/09/2020 07:20

Not great here in Birmingham.

Around 150 cases a day and more than 50 schools reported with cases after 2 weeks (more that haven't hit the media including my own DCs' schools which both have multiple cases).
One son home after a week back due to case in class.

We are on local lockdown but today we find out if this will be tightened.

x2boys · 18/09/2020 07:23

Im in Bolton so it's shite infection rates of 212/ 100,000, schools partly closing or fully closing daily ,Ds1 managed a week back in school before someone in his bubble tested positive,so he's now self isolating, hospital admission,s are rising and another death yesterdaySad

IcyApril · 18/09/2020 07:28

Not too bad. 26 cases this month. Up on last month at this stage but now out of control yet. Local secondary have had a case.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 18/09/2020 07:30

I'm in Derbyshire. Things are OK at the moment in my area, averaging between 5-10 cases per week. Not sure how many schools are affected but none are so far in my town. We have 8 primaries and 3 secondary schools including a private school.

ninja · 18/09/2020 07:42

In Oldham - we're not allowed to socialise with anyone outside our bubble and haven't been able to for weeks, which is shit for the kids.

Most schools have at least one year group affected either totally or partially.

My daughter is in year 13 and they're only going back to college 50% of the time but I'm worried that she won't get back in at all if there are cases before she gets there.

She tested positive 10 days ago (my really symptoms - just a precaution before she went back to college so it was a complete shock) so we're all self isolating.

I've seen my parents once this year, I don't know when I'll be allowed to see them again.

All a bit of a worry

Slumptuous · 18/09/2020 07:45

I'm in a leafy part of Birmingham and things aren't great. Cases popping up daily in numerous local schools resulting in closures of year groups. Found out today that a local 3 form infant school now has to close to everyone. Feel like we're just waiting for the email for confirmed cases and my dc are out of school for 2 weeks.

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 18/09/2020 07:48

East Northamptonshire so not too bad but a lot of our county has had hotspots recently but we are a bit more rural here

Concerned7777 · 18/09/2020 07:53

In the North West, cases spiralling, luckily no cases in my dc schools....yet, expecting to be in local lockdown imminently

RandallBoggs · 18/09/2020 07:57

MK...cases are rising I think but still small. I don’t think there have been any deaths recently. I know of one secondary that has had to close but no other schools in the vicinity.

TheWindOnTheMoon · 18/09/2020 08:02

Rural Wiltshire. Few cases, everything still open and functioning normally - at present.

SockYarn · 18/09/2020 08:05

We're on the outskirts of Glasgow and banned from going into other people's houses as apparently it's running riot here and people are falling like flies. Hmm

Despite this, nobody I know has it, and there are no cases in the 1000 pupil high school.

Oh, and the Scottish government admitted they've been lying all the way through about the people in hospital and revised the numbers from 250odd to 48. Hmm

So yeah. Amazingly well.

toodlepipsqueaks · 18/09/2020 08:07

SE England - 15 new cases last week - 11 per 100k people. I'm a bit surprised as it had been creeping up but that's quite a bit down again. Perhaps a testing issue, though! I'm not sure how easy it is to get a test here at the moment. I also don't personally know anyone who's had a positive test.

I’m in Devon. It’s fine here to the untrained eye. However my doctor friend says differently and is battening down the hatches for a bad winter. The worst thing I am finding is the division being caused between those who feel protected by following the rules and those who rebel against them (and the derision felt by each side to the other). It’s worse than Brexit and makes me very sad Sad

Frazzled2207 · 18/09/2020 08:13

Greater Manchester albeit one of the lesser affected boroughs.
Ok locally but regionally the situation is grim-
Close to 200 schools across GM affected already.
Expect all forms of socialising to be banned imminently. What’s worrying is that apparently very tight restrictions in Bolton don’t appear to have worked at all and cases are spiralling out of control there -
Not helped of course by people not being able to get tests.
the situation is worrying in all northern cities I think.

Firef1y72 · 18/09/2020 08:16

Cases are stable where I am, at the grand total of 2/100000 over the last 2 weeks. Local high school has been in the news but no bubbles actually closed.
Neighbouring boroughs have rates of 1.1/1000000 and (big town) 8.2/1000000

Atalune · 18/09/2020 08:23

Very interesting to hear what people are saying.

Where we are I am operating in my “bubble” so aside form my PILS, the children’s schools and then 4 friends I don’t see anyone else. And even when I see those people we socially distance and meet outside. I think having gardens and the ability to that has made a huge difference.

I only know one person who has had it and he works front lines services in London (commutes back and forth). I don’t know anyone else. My GP friend says it’s been really quiet here. Stable.

But she also said as there an elderly population people have been more willing to comply with the rules.

x2boys · 18/09/2020 08:24

That's because some people are not sticking to the restrictions @Frazzled2207 everyday I see groups of kids congregating on the park behind my house, people not social distancing, and some fuckwits still believe it's all a big scam,I'm sure they are in the minority but it's so frustrating.

lesbihonest · 18/09/2020 08:29

NE coast of Scotland .

About 1-5 new cases on average each day . 2 deaths in our immediate area since March . About 200 deaths in the entire area overall - out of half a million population . I think 4 or 5 schools have had an isolated case or so .

I think people are getting increasingly frustrated as largely we are doing exactly what we are asked, we all have that app, we’re avoiding travel, wearing masks - and yet we are facing further restrictions yet again . It’s so, so disheartening .

AndromedaPerseus · 18/09/2020 08:30

NE London 11 Covid inpatients across 4 hospitals in 1 trust and no Covid patients in ICU

lesbihonest · 18/09/2020 08:31

Even in hospital - huge tertiary care centre for the islands and all sorts - the nurses were saying last week it’s not half as bad as it was... I’ve no idea if that’s still the case but they said they aren’t at all panicked . Most friends work for ITU, HDU, A&E, GP surgeries and haven’t heard much except for a few saying they’re frustrated and fed up now as nothing seems to change, no matter what we do !
