Enough for 14 day isolation?

Are people starting to panic buy again? 3 people on the school run today said shelves were looking depleted in our area.

Loads. No, I just keep a well stocked ladder and have recently been to Costco.

Hazelnutlatteplease · 17/09/2020 21:47

I could do a fortnight fairly easily, 3 weeks at a push/less healthily. although id have to start making my own wraps/bread again.

Never stopped stockpiling, just have been careful in making sure stuff is used in earliest date order.

Duvetdweller · 17/09/2020 21:47

I’ve done a massive butcher shop today and a sainsburys shop was delivered this morning. I’m not shielding, will quite happily go to the shops but I can see shortages coming. No 16 packs of loo roll on the sainsburys available

Cynderella · 17/09/2020 21:49

I used to shop and cook for seven. Now four. But I still have the habit of buying in bulk and have liked having stores since I've been able to afford it and store it. Generally, I aim to have 2-4 weeks supply of most non-perishables. After the March shortages, I'm not started storing more, but I'm trying not to let stocks run down.

If I couldn't shop for two weeks, so long as milkman and veg boxes could deliver, I would be fine. With a bit of planning, I could probably manage a month without having to buy anything other than fruit, veg and milk.

jb2941 · 17/09/2020 21:50

If we had to isolate we'd be screwed. Food doesn't last in this house 😬 wouldn't have enough toilet roll either 😬😬😬

Northernsoullover · 17/09/2020 21:50

I'm stocking up on the loo roll again (not panic buying) but no we couldn't manage for 14 days.

Cynderella · 17/09/2020 21:50

Oh yes, I have started freezing yeast too because I make bread every day.

catscatscatseverywhere · 17/09/2020 21:57

Not much. Recently got back from my holidays (in a safe country, so no self-isolation), so food cupboard is pretty empty. Went to Asda today and it looks fine, loads of products.

KitKatastrophe · 17/09/2020 21:57

A lot. We have two freezers (under counter size) which are absolutely rammed full of fish, meat, fruit, veg, batch cooked meals.

A pretty big larder cupboard which is full and another box under the stairs with spares.

I dont like having empty cupboards. And it means I never had to panic buy at all at the beginning of the pandemic. I had plenty in stock already.

KitKatastrophe · 17/09/2020 21:58

Surely if you had to self isolate you could get a shopping delivery or ask a friend/relative to drop some food round.

Triangularbubble · 17/09/2020 21:59

We could live for a fortnight, probably over a month, albeit the fruit and milk would run out. I’ve had a fully stocked “spares” cupboard for months, it’s not a recent thing nor am I panic buying, just replenishing what we use. Shelves at my local supermarket today were fully stocked and I could buy everything on my list except one particular kind of niche breakfast cereal (there were numerous alternatives) and pump action hand wash (refills and bar soap plentiful). Vast amounts of pasta and flour being sold off cheap on clearance.

Not an area likely to locally lockdown in near future though, I imagine it’s different in higher risk areas.

This is a good point. In areas at risk of lockdown I imagine people are more on edge and concerned.

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 17/09/2020 22:06

Probably at least 3 months, 2 freezers full, but we always have loads and I buy bulk of all cleaning stuff, toilet rolls, tissues, shampoo, hand wash etc from Amazon so at least 6 month worth of that sort of stuff, bought another 45 toilet rolls last month as they were on offer. I always look on Hotukdeals to see what bulk stuff is on special offer. I didn’t have to panic buy anything last lockdown as I had stuff in anyway.

VaggieMight · 17/09/2020 22:06

The shop shelves are fine near me. Maybe it depends where you are. I don't believe it will be as bad as it was in March again. The supermarkets were caught unaware at that time.

But yes, we could get by for two weeks with what we have in, not our usual choice of foods but we'd get by.

I have a couple of friends who had to self isolate during the early period and had to ration food and toilet paper, it was pretty crap but they didn't go without food.

CrunchyCarrot · 17/09/2020 22:15

Yes, no problem for a 14 day isolation period. I am a prepper anyway and always have a good supply in, no need for panic buying here, just get a couple of extra items here and there every week. Have been making my own bread this year and have a 4 month supply of flour and yeast. Got lots of tinned and dried food.

Shitfuckoh · 17/09/2020 22:18

We have a full freezer & the cupboards are full (just had shopping delivered!) but that's normal for us as I replace what we use.

Things we'd run out of are milk, bread, ham & cheese. Possibly snacks.
Which would be an issue for the DC!

I do have prepayment meters though which I should probably top up again just in case!

3DC & cases are rising (we're in the NE so have just had local restrictions applied) so hazarding a guess that it's very likely at some point we'll end up isolating - even if due to primary aged DCs bubble being sent home!

UndertheCedartree · 17/09/2020 22:20

I have enough for 14 days. When we had Covid in April my DC's dad brought food to us aswell.

WanderingMilly · 17/09/2020 22:20

I could do 14 days, no problem, but those who could do 3 months - wow! I'm impressed....!

Scbchl · 17/09/2020 22:22

Nope, if we needed to isolate then we have family, friends or supermarket deliveries we could use.

TenDays · 17/09/2020 22:24

TONS. Every cupboard is stuffed with tins and packets. This is my normal habit, nothing to do with Corvid.

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 17/09/2020 22:25

There is only 2 of us though so 3 months for us would only be 1 month for a family of 6, it’s a lot easier to have loads in when there is less of you as more room in house also

HasaDigaEebowai · 17/09/2020 22:28

A good few months. We have a couple of freezers and have stuff put by in anticipation of brexit problems. So loads of food, drinks, alcohol, toiletries and household stock like cleaning products, bin bags, medicines etc. We’d be fine for everything.

MNnicknameforCVthreads · 17/09/2020 22:29

This!
Triangularbubble · 17/09/2020 22:30

I have people who would shop for us, though many of them also have children in the same bubbles so equally at risk! But it’s a lot easier to ask if someone can please buy a couple of big jugs of milk, a big bag of apples and a bunch of bananas than to ask them to buy me an entire weeks or fortnights worth of shopping! We have delivery slots available here now but I’m not sure they’d still be there when cold and flu season really starts.

Our spare room is like a warehouse with DH sat in the middle of it WFH
