Enough for 14 day isolation?

Are people starting to panic buy again? 3 people on the school run today said shelves were looking depleted in our area.

We have enough for over 2 weeks, except bread and milk. We just bought a chest freezer and filled it up, which is just as well as we’ve just had a surprise local lockdown sprung on us tonight 🙈. We have 2 loaves in the freezer and 2 1l bottles of milk so I definitely need to get a few more. We have all the elements for main meals but there’d be a lot of “something, chips and beans” type meals. We have all the cleaning products and personal care items we’d need.

Deelish75 · 17/09/2020 23:52

We’ve got two to three weeks of frozen and dry foods in. Also got a couple of cartons of milk in freezer just in case.

We get deliveries from Sainsbury’s and my local store started doing C&C a few months ago - at the moment there is lots of capacity, keeping my fingers crossed it stays that way.

middleager · 17/09/2020 23:52

No and we are in a lockdown area with one DC in SI due to a positive case in class.
I will stock up a bit, but I have family, online shopping or Domino's Pizza Grin

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 17/09/2020 23:54

Easily two weeks - I meal plan roughly for a fortnight in a list on my phone. We could do a lot longer but not necessarily with things we would choose to eat normally, and we wouldn’t have snack/treat type stuff like cake and crisps which I tend to just buy on a Friday for the weekend.

We would run out of milk and bread quite quickly, although we do always have a loaf, pita breads, and burger buns in the freezer. Our cat is mega fussy so we tend to keep a good supply of her food in at all times.

My DP laughs at me because I have been picking up odd tins and packets as I go along - this evening I nipped round to Tesco for dips for fajitas and came back with a couple of tins of tomatoes and some rice.

3 freezers, all full. Cupboards all full, decent Brexit stash.
My wine supplies need a top up and we will need more Lego if having a lockdown.

MrsMayo · 17/09/2020 23:55

Quite a bit as have a big Amercan fridge/freezer but not thought about panic buying anything. Do I need to? Has something happened?

IHaveBrilloHair · 17/09/2020 23:59

I wouldn't go hungry for easily 6 weeks, but fresh stuff would obviously be gone after a week or two.
I'm not worried about running out of food, and I have built up a month's supply of loo roll and cat food/litter, which Ill keep adding to.

QueenPaws · 18/09/2020 00:01

I managed a month last time (couldn't get a delivery and shielding)
Ran out of milk, squash and all the tasty/fresh stuff but enough to live on! I was so happy to see the delivery van Grin

Londonmummy66 · 18/09/2020 00:02

I've always had enough to feed us for 2 weeks if necessary - OK it might get a bit grim towards the end - lentil ragu and a lot of pasta and tomato sauce - but tins and packets go a long way when needs must.

ZarasHouse · 18/09/2020 00:04

We are nearly out of milk and baby wipes, otherwise could do the 14days fine

Pipandmum · 18/09/2020 00:08

No, just the usual amount (say three or four days fresh food and the same again in pasta and canned/jarred. There was never a shortage around here, other than pasta, some cereal and tuna and sweetcorn, flour for a couple weeks, but you could still get all that at smaller local shops.

HasaDigaEebowai · 18/09/2020 08:36

As much as anything I think its about limiting the amount you have to go out now that cases are increasing again so rapidly - particularly now the weather has turned. Not much fun queuing outside a supermarket in the pouring rain.

Personally I think we could be heading for a rough time with brexit and covid coinciding. I don't want to be having to go to the shops.

mosscarpet · 18/09/2020 08:46

@KitKatastrophe

Surely if you had to self isolate you could get a shopping delivery or ask a friend/relative to drop some food round.
well, in March I could not get a delivery slot form anywhere for weeks. we have literally no one locally we could ask to bring us food if we had to self isolate. So yes, I have enough food in to last about 3 -4 weeks for a family of 6. I have been prepping for months. I work in the NHS, DH is a teacher and 4 dc so chances are we will be doing isolation at some point!!
Waxonwaxoff0 · 18/09/2020 08:54

Nope, I do a weekly shop. If I had to isolate someone would bring me some shopping round.

Lovemusic33 · 18/09/2020 08:59

I signed up to Hello fresh to get 3 meals a week delivered so if I have to isolate at least we will have some fresh food. I have enough tins and frozen food to last the other days and always keep enough toilet roll for a couple weeks. It’s pretty easy to get food delivered as many places offer delivery now, places like hello fresh and gusto have offers when you sign up (it’s not cheap but it’s a good option). We also have take aways that deliver so it’s easy to survive 2 weeks even if it does mean eating a few take aways.

MilkRunningOutAgain · 18/09/2020 13:18

I reckon I could do a month at a push and 3 weeks quite comfortably, though it would be a bit boring. Generally do have quite a bit in.

toolatetooearly · 18/09/2020 13:26

Just enough for the next 2 days, as usual!

kimlo · 18/09/2020 13:51

between the food I have in the house, tescos, the local market delivery, the milkman, amazon and takeaways I would be fine.

Wejustdontknow · 18/09/2020 14:15

Currently have enough for two days and the second one would be something, chips and beans 😂 we have a reoccurring delivery slot every Saturday morning so not concerned about having to suddenly isolate, also have lots of family around that could help if needed. I work at a Asda in South Yorkshire and we have no stock issues, in fact today looked like Christmas time in the warehouse as the deliveries have been really big this week, there was hardly any space to put anything

justanotherneighinparadise · 18/09/2020 14:17

We’d be fine. I’ve no interest in panic buying again. I’d rather fast.
