anyone else hear this?
on radio 4, Kings College Hospital

not colds, well we knew it was not colds

I heard that but I thought that was for children only, adults should still look for the current 3 main indicators

Coughs in children aren't proving to be a symptom

Tomatoesneedtoripen · 17/09/2020 21:02

oh thank you @PleasantVille

There's more info here

No I read this earlier thinking it was on the guardian. It was something like they’ve noticed from the Zoe app study 80% of people have a severe headache and/or fatigue when positive, if you have a runny nose it’s very unlikely you have it.

Interesting. I had a month of severe fatigue and headaches in June. Wondered if it might be covid but I'll never know. Wish there were reliable antibody tests

peppermintteadrinker · 17/09/2020 21:15

Also interesting that zoe study says adults reporting top symptoms include sore throat... I also had that. But no fever, cough or loss taste or smell, so didn't get a test

MrBucket · 17/09/2020 21:16

That’s not terribly helpful to me because those are also symptoms of broken nights due to having a small baby

When I had Covid I had 2 days of intense headache and fatigue (as well as a slight cough and loss of sense of smell which were slightly longer term symptoms) - but the first and main undeniable symptom was a fever.

But I'm always tired and have a headache!! Confused

I had those symptoms and the Zoe app asked me to get tested but my test came back negative. The fatigue was unreal, I was falling asleep in the middle of the day like when I was suffering from the first trimester, I even took a pregnancy test to check I wasn’t pregnant!

Mistigri · 17/09/2020 21:37

There's been a massive outbreak at my son's engineering school in France (potentially involving 500 students - about 150 confirmed so far). Headache and fatigue seem to be by far the most common symptoms based on DS's friendship group.

His only symptoms were headache and mild fatigue and if he hadn't had a known COVID+ contact he'd have just shrugged it off as nothing.

AlandAnna · 17/09/2020 21:41

Could someone tell the schools about coughs not being a symptom in children! Grin

SoManyActivities · 17/09/2020 21:41

But I'm always tired and have a headache!!

I think when they say 'fatigue' they mean the kind of thing where you cannot get out of bed - you would know!

ShitStormInATeacup · 17/09/2020 21:42

I only know one person who has tested positive and their only symptom was a headache. They only had a test due to receiving a text saying they'd been in contact with someone who'd tested positive.

PleasantVille · 17/09/2020 21:42

I'm not sure if you're being serious but you don't expect to have a personalised list of symptoms do you?

The Zoe project is a huge research undertaking to gather knowledge about the virus and how it presents are you suggesting that they somehow find more symptoms because you have a baby Confused

mafaldine · 17/09/2020 21:42

Both my kids have had bad headaches plus a bit of fatigue plus a bit of tummy upset in the last few days. Both now absolutely fine. We didn't test because they didn't have any of the three testable symptoms. But now I'm wondering whether it could have been Covid. I'd hate to think they could have passed it on, but equally we would have had to lie to get tested. What do you do?

MrBucket · 17/09/2020 21:44

No PleasantVille I was not being serious. Were you being serious with that response?

I wish they would, I can't complain about my DCs school as so far they seem to be taking a very sensible approach but some of the stories I hear are ridiculous
Kaktus · 17/09/2020 21:45

My mum’s three symptoms were severe headache, fatigue and fever.
Mine on the other hand were congested nose, cough and chest pain! No fever.

PleasantVille · 17/09/2020 21:48

@MrBucket

No PleasantVille I was not being serious. Were you being serious with that response?
Yes, you appeared to be making a serious point that you wanted some personal symptoms. Obvioulsy it's hard to tell from the written word but if you were joking isn't it usual to indicate it with an emoji of some sort.
Lurkingforawhile · 17/09/2020 21:48

Interesting to see that loss of smell is in all six types. I have a chronic health condition with cough (and usually headaches) so find this really comforting as my sense of smell is fine! I know what to look out for now. I have been recording on the Zoe app so great to hear it's being useful.

reikizen · 17/09/2020 21:49

I am involved in contact tracing and I have yet to speak to any people who have tested positive and had a fever and/or cough. Loss of taste/smell yes. Lots of severe headache and fatigue which (women) appear to put down to migraine/stress/motherhood! Interestingly no one I know personally who has tested positive has had the classic symptoms either.
