I had a sore throat for a couple of days last week, followed by headache and fatigue. All very minor. Did the nhs 111 online questions and it said it was unlikely to be covid and to carry on about my business basically. Whoops 😬

Tangledyarn · 17/09/2020 21:53

I had severe fatigue- as in i couldnt get down the stairs type fatigue but I did also have a bad cough and severe breathlessness and a very sore throat (which I still have 5 bloody months later Confused) I probably had a temperature briefly but no thermometer! Ironically I had no headache really which my neurologist thought was hilarious as I have chronic migraine.

Same, over weekend i had headache, sore throat and fatigue and thought nothing of it. On Tuesday my DS woke up with a fever, headache and sore throat and had to be tested. He is quite snotty though so assuming a cold... But it does make you wonder how many people have had it and brushed off their symptoms as they don't match the official list

“ if you were joking isn't it usual to indicate it with an emoji of some sort”

It’s not compulsory. You read far too much into a brief lighthearted post

Helenj1977 · 17/09/2020 21:54

I have it most days then 😂

How do they know when it mutates and changes? New symptoms could be possible.

JudyGemstone · 17/09/2020 21:56

I think it's such a wide and varied cluster of symptoms that trying to make any meaningful sense of it is almost impossible at this point!

My partner had covid in April and now has the same symptoms as me, so assuming another type of coronavirus/cold virus as he's unlikely to have had it twice, although can't say for sure.

His symptoms were different in April though, mainly just loss of taste/smell, which took almost 3 months to come back!

Crunchymum · 17/09/2020 22:03

Hmmmm, the headache is really interesting.

I'm about a week into a severe neck-headache. I mean agonising (and I have a chronic condition which means I'm often in pain). I actually put it down to a flare of my condition!!

Although DP has complained of similar.... Shock

We are both generally fatigued though!! Headache aside.

Quarterback11 · 17/09/2020 22:05

A friend tested positive (HCP) and the only symptom she had was fatigue.

SoManyActivities · 17/09/2020 22:06

I am involved in contact tracing and I have yet to speak to any people who have tested positive and had a fever and/or cough. Loss of taste/smell yes. Lots of severe headache and fatigue which (women) appear to put down to migraine/stress/motherhood! Interestingly no one I know personally who has tested positive has had the classic symptoms either.

Really? You haven't spoken to anyone who had a fever? How many positive cases have you spoken to?!

I and my family all had absolute textbook Covid, in terms of incubation time, symptoms and how the symptoms affected myself and DH (female vs male) and our kids (very mild symptoms).

Bol87 · 17/09/2020 22:10

Can you imagine if everyone needed to test for a headache & fatigue.. 90% of the population would need testing every week 🙈

Tomatoesneedtoripen · 17/09/2020 22:10

I guess if you had fatigue you would know something was amiss

I don’t know. I have severe insomnia and a toddler who gets up at 5am. I average 2-3 hours sleep a night. I also have an under active thyroid. I’m always fatigued.
Fossie · 17/09/2020 22:17

I’ve tested positive. I wouldn’t have had a test if a family member hadn’t tested positive. She wouldn’t have had a test if a close friend hadn’t tested positive. My main symptom was an ongoing headache. I had quite a sore throat but only the sort you feel with swollen glands. One day I felt a bit dizzy. I slept often during the day. I thought I lost my taste a while one day. That was it. My headache was the worst and only proper symptom. Family member had no symptoms at all.

mafaldine · 17/09/2020 22:18

Is it partly about knowing your usual symptoms though? Yes, some people get frequent headaches, but lots of people very rarely do. None of us in our family ever get headaches really, so a headache is generally a sign that we're ill.

stayathomer · 17/09/2020 22:26

I had covid in july, first symptom was extreme extreme fatigue as in for 3 days could barely move from the couch, sore joints and muscles, accompanied by a weird metallicy taste in mouth. Headaches, sore throat and chest pains/breathlessness only came after a few days and actually in the first week I never had an out of the ordinary temp

Dancer12345 · 17/09/2020 22:43

Back in May I had awful fatigue then woke up with a temperature. Had a bad head too. Got tested but came back positive. The headache lasted for about a week. The fatigue was like nothing I’ve ever felt before, it was bizarre. Whatever it was, it was like no other bug/virus I’ve had before.

Russianslice · 17/09/2020 22:52

I currently have covid and I agree, fatigue and mild headaches are my only symptoms My little boy has a snotty nose, so I initially thought he had a normal cold and my husband loss sense of smell. If it wasn’t for husband’s symptoms, I would have carried on as normal x

DelphiniumBlue · 17/09/2020 23:37

My main symptom was extreme fatigue- I couldn't even get downstairs for over a week. I also had gastric issues, no appetite at all, a mild sore throat, and awful back ache for a few days. Was ill for almost a month. It wasn't just a bit tired, I could barely make it to the loo. In the second week, I managed to get downstairs to sit on the sofa for an hour or so, but had to get back to bed to lie down. I was sleeping 18 hours a day- couldn't focus enough to watch tv or read a book on the first week.
But no temperature, cough or loss of smell. I have never felt so weak.

OhTheRoses · 17/09/2020 23:51

I have a sneaking suspicion and am tempted to have an anti-body test. Back in Feb I felt tired and grotty one afternoon and the side of my face and neck started stinging and went red and I went home early. Looking back I am pretty sure a couple of people in my office had it. One lost taste and smell and another hacked from mid Jan until lockdown.

The only reason I wonder is because I am rarely ill and even when I had shingles although I felt rough (and sore) I worked through it.

Dozens · 18/09/2020 03:57

I am currently awake worrying. Monday / Tuesday I developed a headache, a really crushing pressure in my head. Felt a bit tired, under the weather etc. Occasionally coughing, strange dizzy disjointed feeling.

DD also developed tummy pains, chills, bit of a cough on Wednesday.

Yesterday I got a call from work, I’d popped into the office for an hour last Wednesday and the person I saw herself developed symptoms on Sunday and confirmed a positive result this Wednesday.

I managed to book a test for myself and DD last night, now just awaiting results.

I have no fever, no real cough.

I feel spaced out, neck and head pains, could just sleep / rest with eyes closed all the time as I also have eye pain. Ringing in my ears too. Slightly tight chested but I am also aware that I feel anxious which probably doesn’t help.

If this is Covid then it’s nothing like the textbook symptoms.

Jeremyironseverything · 18/09/2020 04:20

Mine's a productive cough and I had a headache and mild dizziness. Was most surprised with the result and wouldn't have even bothered to get tested if I hadn't known other school staff were positive.

Torvean32 · 18/09/2020 04:21

Here's the cough in childten.

midnightstar66 · 18/09/2020 04:45

Could someone tell the schools about coughs not being a symptom in children!

The schools know, but the instruction from the government is to send home coughing children so that is what we have to do.

Natsku · 18/09/2020 05:39

This has been known for ages though, its been listed as a symptom in my country since at least early summer I think. Why is there such a short list of official symptoms in the UK? Here its fever, cough, breathing issues, headache, fatigue, sore throat, muscle aches, diarrhoea, nausea, even runny nose.

Tomatoesneedtoripen · 18/09/2020 05:51

@Natsku
does that create more worry or less?
