Want to Calculate your Covid age?

Apologies if there is already a thread for this, I checked the Covid topic list of thread titles but couldn't see one.

Calculate your Covid Age here

This table starts with your actual age and then adds (or subtracts) years according to your particular vulnerabilities, which gives you a "Covid Age". So if you are actually 35 but have a Covid age of 75, you should be treated as having the same vulnerability as an otherwise-healthy 75 year old. Scrolling down the page further it then gives estimated risk and fatality rates for the covid age you come up with.

I found this useful.

Just tried again and it's loaded properly this time.

Actual age is 36.
Covid age is 50 because im morbidly obese. I have started a new food regime today and plan to add daily exercise tooso that should start coming down :)

Gingerkittykat · 17/09/2020 16:36

I've got a covid age of 85, I knew I was high risk but this has worried me.

Ifartglitterybaubles · 17/09/2020 16:47

I'm 44 my covid age is 64. Sad

Tangledyarn · 17/09/2020 16:58

It's hard with the asthma one because I'd say I'm moderate (symbicort inhaler + montelukast) so not sure how many years that would add on!

year5teacher · 17/09/2020 17:13

I’m 26 and my Covid age is 21 as I was -5 for being female and nothing else added! My parents both ended up 60 and 65 and considering they’re both 60 that’s pretty good going. That’s perked me up even if it’s not accurate!

Chchchchangesarecoming · 17/09/2020 17:20

Really helpful as it makes clear that obesity (30+) is the issue not overweight

KihoBebiluPute · 17/09/2020 17:31

@Spreadingcomfrey I found it much easier to look at on a laptop than on a phone, I don't think the site is optimised for phone browsing.

Thank you for this. My dh is overweight but according to this, it only adds 3 years to his age- that is much lower than I had been led to believe by the hysterical media who have portrayed anyone overweight as being much more vulnerable.

I'm younger than my age, as I am female and am lucky with my health.

weepingwillow22 · 17/09/2020 17:45

Interesting OP. I have been wondering how breastfeeding affects vulnerability as oestrogen is meant to be a big protective factor against covid and it is depleted when you are breastfeeding (it is high in pregnancy which is one reason why covid is meant to be less severe for pregnant women).

Another unknown is blood group, there are some theories that blood group A is meant to make you more susceptable.

Caroian · 17/09/2020 18:10

I’m 40 but my Covid age is more than twice that. Interestingly though the BMA risk stratification tool gives me a “low risk” score (3). The main difference being the high weighting on this one given to eGFR

BeyondsConstantBangingHeadache · 17/09/2020 18:12

Don't say that caroian, my score is already over twice my age without adding my A group blood Grin

PastelPompoms · 17/09/2020 18:23

Would you could high blood pressures as a risk factor if your blood pressure is very well controlled on tablets?

whirlwindwallaby · 17/09/2020 18:23

36-5 for being female=31

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 17/09/2020 18:30

Fuck. I'm 40 but got 104.

Excuse me while I go and hide under the bed.

Ifartglitterybaubles · 17/09/2020 18:41

@PastelPompoms

Would you could high blood pressures as a risk factor if your blood pressure is very well controlled on tablets?
I'd like to know the answer to this too. I'm hypertensive, well controlled on ARB's.
XFPW · 17/09/2020 18:42

I’m 39 - Covid age 34. (Female, white, no other factors)

DH is 44 - Covid age 65. Sad He is mixed race and had cancer 3 years ago. We have never been told that he is higher risk because of his cancer - he has been cancer free for 3 years. Surely the type of cancer and the response to treatment etc is significant and you surely can’t just lump all cancers in together. This freaks me out a little I have to admit

Tomatoesneedtoripen · 17/09/2020 18:45

👀

Babysharkdoodoodood · 17/09/2020 18:53

Fuuuuuuuuuuuck. 81. Really 55

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 17/09/2020 18:56

Anyone got a magic wand for obesity....

iVampire · 17/09/2020 19:00

I did an earlier version of this, and between the times my ‘Covid age’ has risen.

The adverse weighting for haematological cancers has increased.

Koalaismyspiritanimal · 17/09/2020 19:49

92 and real age of 42. I knew I was v vulnerable but this was still a shock ConfusedSad

lifeisconfusingforme · 17/09/2020 20:03

I'm very worried now.
Real age 45, COVID age 82.
Very overweight
Diabetes also bumped my total up.
Previously use to jog which hope to start again soon. Currently working on power walking for 2 20 minutes sessions a day and hope to build upon this soon.
I suffer with SAD so find it hard to motivate myself at this time of year so might try aerobics at home now I've seen my true age.

user1471530109 · 17/09/2020 20:18

I did this last week. I am about to turn 40 and my covid age is 68, mainly due to type 1 diabetes which adds 20 years! Even if it's relatively well controlled (under hba1c 7.5 if anyone want to know the magic number for themselves).
If I use 39 for my actual age, my covid age increases to 72 Confused!

I am utterly depressed. I am stuck in a room with 30 kids 5x a day. They are told they don't need to wear masks and they really don't seem to understand they can't come and whisper things to me Hmm or ask me to come and help. I had a class all coughing this morning and when I complained I was told 'they all have colds'. How the fuck do you know that? Not one has been off isolating or had a test. It's the same year group that's just closed in a neighbouring school and they are all on the same sports clubs 😠. I love my job, but it is a job. I love the kids but I love my own more and I want to see them grow up.

Schools are bursting bubbles all around this area and I'm waiting for ours to go. I'm the only member of staff who wears a mask (the kids asked me about it today and I reminded them I'm clinically vulnerable). I feel like it's only a matter of time to be honest and I'm not sure what the answer is. Work haven't event done a bloody risk assessment for me.

fifteenisthemagicnumber · 17/09/2020 20:30

I have high blood pressure but it's well controlled by meds. That adds 8yrs. My best friend has Lupus, which adds 2yrs.
But, her Lupus and the meds she takes to manage it meant that she was on the shielding list.
So for me and her this makes little sense as it seems to miscalculate or risks relative to each other.

bigbluebus · 17/09/2020 20:58

Those asking if you still count hypertension if it's controlled by medication, I would say the answer is YES - purely based on the fact that at the beginning of Covid it was thought that certain blood pressure medication put you at increased risk of complications if you contracted Covid. I will add that I'm not a medical professional and am only going on research I did in March (which may subsequently have been debunked)
