Schools - are you more worried or less concerned now

On the back of a recent thread asking how worried people were on a scale of 1-10, how worried are people now that they've been back a week or two? Are you more concerned or less concerned than you were just before kids went back? 1- not concerned at all, 10 - really worried.

Your scale doesn't match your question.

I am the same level of worried that I was last week.

MarcelineMissouri · 15/09/2020 14:37

Worried about what?
Actual risk of coronavirus - 1
Disruption to school over the next few months - 10

stoppingstones · 15/09/2020 14:39

I'm about a 2. Scotland here. Schools back a full month. A few colds first couple of weeks, but no major disruptions. No Covid cases. Classes doing great. Separate bubbles and not much mingling. Parents being careful at the gate. I'd say we are ok. Ask me again next month

Seriouslymole · 15/09/2020 14:40

Not at all worried about Covid so a 1 on that, but worried that school is dealing with it at the expense of my child's education - 10. No moving around the school so no specialist classrooms, falling way behind everyone else in the city who is not dealing with it like this. Massively unimpressed.

Worried about the fact that schools will be disrupted - 10
Worried that the economy is in freefall - 10
Worried that there will be far more deaths related to lockdown and availability of appointments unrelated to Covid - 10

Worried about actually getting Covid - 1

notanoctopus · 15/09/2020 14:42

Sorry, poorly worded. Yes, I meant more/less worried about both catching coronavirus and disruption

Aaaah. I was incredibly worried before the schools went back, as I am ECV. We didn't know if kids would have been on holiday and come back with covid but asymptomatic.

Crowded corridors, crowded classrooms, crowded buses likely. No social distancing possible because of size of classrooms.

Went in to see Head of Year, who is lovely. But classroom terrible, set up with I think 3 rows of I long desk with 10 or 11 chairs,

Windows on 1 side but looked only to open a little bit at the top.

DC has been very anxious about school return, various medical stuff going on, but is really worried about giving it to me. DC sleeping poorly as worried.

Now R is 1.7 (according to Imperial College) and we have fucking rubbish test and trace!!!

Fortunately we have Zoe app, the rise of 4.6k per day is actually reassuring that it isn't more in the circumstances.

And we are thankfully in a low risk area. But DC has not been in every day and I am prioritising their mental and physical health at this time .

How, Boris Johnson and Chris Whitty, as I as an ECV parent supposed to shield from my own children?

It is a shitshow.

So concerned before going back 9, concerned now - 9. If it were 10 I would have actually pulled DC out but we aren't quite there yet.

8 for closures

Maybe 2 for virus

IncidentsandAccidents · 15/09/2020 14:50

I'm more worried about testing than I was a couple of weeks ago. At that stage I thought we would be able to get a test and results quickly if dc had symptoms so that time off school would be minimised. It's now obvious that we would need to wait a lot longer (if we were able to get a test at all) and it seems inevitable that we'll have to be tested at some point.

There have been no covid cases in dc's school or any other schools in our area (primary or secondary) so I'm not so concerned about that.

wendz86 · 15/09/2020 14:51

Not worried about covid - maybe a 2 but after waiting 5 days for a test and result more worried about how much school they will miss.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 15/09/2020 14:53

Still worried. Got email this morning confirmed positive case in school, they are only isolating "close contacts". However, as offspring have complained of being crammed into corridors and the whole year group waiting in the hall together before school, I'm not convinced they can identify all of these.
Cases in local area going up sharply and I have a year 11 who instead of thinking about GCSEs is worried about passing the virus onto his grandparents (we live with them).

Mippi · 15/09/2020 14:55

My kids went back for a week and now are all off again for two weeks as one has caught covid.

Not looking great for actually being in school over the winter!

polkadotpjs · 15/09/2020 14:56

10 considering DS1 already sent home for 2 weeks

chickenortheegg · 15/09/2020 14:57

I'm concerned about the test shortages and lack of processing capability disrupting things even more than I dreaded.

sunseekin · 15/09/2020 15:02

It’s a mess, a 10 because I’m pretty sure it’s not going to get better.

This.
ShinyGreenElephant · 15/09/2020 15:06

2 classes already sent home in DDs school (not hers), whole year group in her old school, 2 kids from her dance class quarantined and a primary down the roads had to fully shut. I wasn't expecting it to be anywhere near this bad this quick

BlusteryShowers · 15/09/2020 15:07

Last week I thought there would be no way that schools would close again.

While I still think it's unlikely, I think the problems with the availability of tests means that I'm less certain. I think there is potential for lots of people to end up having to isolate whether from Covid or just cold related symptoms and that could mean a lot of disruption.

thelittlestrhino · 15/09/2020 15:08

Week 6 back for us. Wasn't overly worried before; my main concern was how the children would be emotionally after being off for so long. This was allayed in week 1 as they were all in really good form. First 2 weeks were great, then we had a case locally so about a third of the children were kept off for week 3.

We have since had a nasty cold bug doing the rounds, I've had it too. Some of the children did get tested but everything has come back negative so far. We have more cases in our authority than we had at the 'peak' of the virus but still very low levels as we're a rural area.

We definitely need clearer guidelines as to when children/staff should be off and tested, and despite having a very local mobile test centre, it has been very difficult for some of our families to book tests.

x2boys · 15/09/2020 15:08

I'm in Bolton ,Ds1 has been back a week a group of year 11 were sent home on Friday due to someone testing positive, the whole of year 8 were sent home yesterday ,and I had an email this morning not to send him as someone in his bubble has tested positive so he's off now untill the 24th 😭

FourTeaFallOut · 15/09/2020 15:17

The same, I think. It's on a par with my low expectations. There have been a lot of year group closures and a whole school closure close to me.

I expect it will get worse than I expected in the coming weeks because we were seeing significant week on week rises in my area but now that no one can get a test it seems we are back to square one and running blind.

BarefootHippieChick · 15/09/2020 15:21

I'm not so worried about catching it, although I'd rather none of us are ill, but it would be a 10 for schools closing. Several schools near me already have kids isolating and dcs are at a huge school so it's only a matter of time. Also in an area with a threat of local lockdown so I'm fully convinced they'll be working from home sooner rather than later.

Houseplanted · 15/09/2020 15:26

10 because DSs whole year group was sent home after 3 days. The school is providing lessons on Teams but its so inconsistent as some teachers don't know how to use it and the kids keep messing around.

BanditsBum · 15/09/2020 16:08

1

Our schools have been back since mid August.

All of the scare mongering of it ripping through schools and teachers dropping like flies has yet to actually happen although we aren't in winter yet.

We are in a high Covid area and currently under local restrictions but still only 1 confirmed case at a local highschool (student) a few weeks ago with no subsequent cases since.
