Watch the home edit on netflix its enough to take your mind off everything Grin

The uncertainty bothers me the most, so I'm focussing on the things I can control and (trying to) not worry about the things I can't. So I'm getting us out as much as we can (within the rules) while we can. Seeing people safely, and focussing on making my home a comfortable happy place to be in case we are locked back into.
I'm reminding myself of all the good things that have happened over the past few months, the enjoyment from the simple things, the extra time spent with my daughter.
As someone else said I'm planning for the worst, but hoping for the best and to an extent burying my head in the sand. Taking each adjustment as it comes and trying not to predict what may or may not happen in an uncertain time. Just looking at what we can do in the here and now and making sure we do those things, safely.

I am generally a glass half full person, and always appreciate what I have. When things are tough I set my bar very low, so appreciate the essentials ( are we alive and well, roof over heads, food ) and see everything else as a bonus. The well bit has been a bit challenging lately!

I also try to think, can I change this situation ? and if I can, can I be arsed to ?

Its OK to just be OK, I keep the plates spinning but a couple are dirty and one is chipped Smile

We’ve made sure we have supplies in and have started the Christmas shopping. Also adding extra treats each week when shopping to put away for winter nights

Plenty of board games, jigsaws, kindle, cozy blankets and the internet. Allows us to watch shows, game, keep in touch with people safely etc.

I find keeping our risk as low as possible helps so we aren’t socialising out in venues, not visiting unnecessary indoor places etc.

frozendaisy · 15/09/2020 08:47

I have returned to jogging (even jogging is an ambitious word for what it is at the moment) anyway getting your heartbeat to 80% of maximum at least three times a week.

Clearing garden.

Decluttering, not many fun events planned but I can declutter whilst nippers at school.

Creating a creative space.

Basically trying to enjoy our house because once proper holidays are possible again I have no intention of being here very much.

Remembering that this 2020 isn’t the worst thing that the world has been through.

And not even close to the worst things I’ve already been through.

Make a list of things you like doing or that make you feel good - even having an hour in the shower, or looking up at the sky, or texting Mabel next door to see if she needs shopping fetching, or reading a book etc

Small things & bigger things - then when you feel ‘in a funk’ you can read the list (even reading it might make you smile if you include lots of small silly things) and pick something to do without have ‘brain freeze’ about what to do to lift your spirits.

Maybe save this thread somewhere too as an aide memoire for cold, wet, lonely nights that across the country/world, millions of people are doing lots of little things, small acts of kindness to themselves and others, and warming the world with good humour, good advice, good food, good friends, good thoughts even.

These are what help(ed) me, oh and snuggling in bed with hot water bottles, big cups of tea & a box of truffles Wink

SomethingM1ss1ng · 15/09/2020 09:30

Some great ideas.

I’ve started running/walking on my own every day which helps more than going to the gym

It's not too hard right now. Weather's lovely, kids and I are back at school.

I am just trying not to think about the prospect of a further lockdown in the middle of winter...Sad

SomewhereEast · 15/09/2020 10:00

Not reading this forum is a really good place to start.

@SomewhereEast agree to an extent but mumsnet has helped me in many scenarios as well!

Reading comfort books. Avoiding the news. Getting outdoors for a walk everyday regardless of the weather. Not beating myself up for all the things I no longer do (i.e. I hate shopping now - so souls and joyless so am doing everything on online - but missing pottering). Reminding myself that DS does not need swimming, drama etc (none of these clubs are back yet) - most important thing is he is connected to his friends and at school. But yes, it's getting me down. Thought of a winter with things is making me struggle

LimitIsUp · 15/09/2020 10:21

Live in the moment - don't think about the future and what may or may not transpire

vanillandhoney · 15/09/2020 10:25

Don't read the news everyday. Avoid social media. Avoid all the panicky threads on MN.

Day to day I don't even think about COVID. I go to work as normal. I've always had my shopping delivered. The only thing I need to do that's not normal is remember to wear a mask when I get petrol and go to the post office!

Life honestly feels very normal to me though I appreciate that's probably due to my lifestyle more than anything else.

IncidentsandAccidents · 15/09/2020 10:57

Thank you for this thread 💐

Being outdoors as much as possible really helps me. I go for a long walk every day now dc are at school and it makes me feel so much lighter and more optimistic.

I really love spending time with my dog! I love seeing the simple pleasure she gets from walks, companionship and affection.

I get a lot of joy from seeing how happy my dc are back at school. They are bundles of energy and stories to tell at the end of the school day and it really lifts my spirits.

I love reading and am focusing on happy, funny novels and old favourites. A bit of escapism is wonderful!

everythingisginandroses · 15/09/2020 10:57

@cyclingmad - thanks for the heads up, I have been waiting for The Home Edit - excited! Smile

everythingisginandroses · 15/09/2020 11:00

@SomewhereEast and yet here we are...

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 15/09/2020 11:10

Great thread. Things I am doing

Trying to just live in and appreciate the moment. Today all the children are back at school. I have peace to work on my own and tidy up. We have food and are all safe and well. I am going to enjoy today and try not to worry about things I can’t change

Trying to exercise every day

Thinking about Christmas - DH and I are lucky that we can spend it with our 3DCs. They are still small and find Christmas magical. I am not going to waste that memory mourning for what might have been.

Thinking about booking a couple of nights in a hotel at half term - that seems a huge treat. Just eating out and not having to cook a meal is great.

Small pleasures
