Has anyone had a test recently and got the results back really quickly?

I had a test in June and had the results back the next day. I’ve heard the time taken has slipped a lot so wondered what people were finding at the moment. I just took ds for a test this morning (when his cough is blatantly just a follow on from his big standard cold Angry) and I’m trying to be positive that dc won’t have to miss more than 1/2 days at school after only just getting back to it!!

63 hours for us from test on Thursday - negative results thankfully but meant days off work and school and cancelled weekend plans

PeachiceT · 13/09/2020 12:05

Ds had test 10.30 yesterday and results back 8am this morning 👍

HipHopBanzai · 13/09/2020 12:10

That's encouraging PeachIceTea. Hope we get a similar turn around on our test!

MarcelineMissouri · 13/09/2020 12:13

That’s amazing @PeachiceT! Glad to hear it can still happen!

Yes - I know of two different under 18s who got results back in less than 24 hours. That was Thursday and Friday last week.

Yes had one on Sunday (one week ago), results back Monday morning before school run.

FleshLiabilities · 13/09/2020 12:59

I did a home test last Tuesday at 8am, got results 10pm Thursday.

wegetthejobdone · 13/09/2020 13:06

I had a test Friday lunchtime and got the result 10pm Saturday. It seems to be that the big delay is largely on the postal testing rather than the test centres.

KatherineOfGaunt · 13/09/2020 13:08

I had a test last Sunday 11am (booked that morning, too) and results back about 6:30am the next day. I didn't even miss a day of work!

polkadotpixie · 13/09/2020 13:08

We've been waiting 45 hours for toddler DS's results now. Last time took 46 hours so hopefully not too much longer

He was tested at a walk through site on Friday

ButNotTonight20 · 13/09/2020 13:13

Yes my son was tested at 1030am on Sunday of the bank holiday weekend and had results by 8an next day.

The delay is caused by people getting tests for what is clearly just a cold. FFS.
MarcelineMissouri · 13/09/2020 13:15

I’ll keep my fingers crossed then.... better make sure we’re up and ready in the morning just in case 🤞🏻🙏🏻

He has a cough @Feminist10101.... you are supposed to get tested for a cough. As his mum I can say I’m 99% certain that it’s just a regular cough and cold but is that enough?

OP posts:
Feminist10101 · 13/09/2020 13:19

Nope. Wrong. It’s a very specific cough.

Feminist10101 · 13/09/2020 13:20

Needs to be coughing continuously for an hour or 3 coughing bouts (like a fit) in 24. Not just any cough.

The info has been out there for months. The labs are flooded and we risk people who actually need taste not being able to get them and therefore not isolating as required. This is a MASSIVE problem.

Feminist10101 · 13/09/2020 13:21

See? From the NHS’ mouth. No other kind of cough requires a test.

Feminist10101 · 13/09/2020 13:22

The Covid cough is unproductive usually more of an uncontrolled bark which leaves the cougher breathless.

(Spot the person who has had people coughing down the phone at her for 6 months asking “like this”?)

Shitfuckoh · 13/09/2020 13:27

@feminist10101 but how do we gets schools etc to know the difference?
My full household has a cold. My eldest has started with a cough, as part of the cold. His school information states as long as he's well within himself he can attend with a cold, unless he had a temperature or a cough.
In which case to get a test and/or isolate for 10 days (rest of household 14 days).

So what do we, as parents, do? Send him to school, they'll only send him home and we'll be the parents who sent in the child with a cough. Or get him tested? As a family with 2 DC in 2 different schools, I really don't want to isolate for 14 days, which is what we need to do if we don't get him tested.

Feminist10101 · 13/09/2020 13:29

Our headteacher sent this out. Maybe suggest yours does the same?

Feminist10101 · 13/09/2020 13:30

Point out that “cough” is not a symptom. It’s a specific type of cough. And link to the NHS guidance.

I don’t know what guidance schools in England are following but it’s batshit crazy to flood the testing system with every cough and sniffle!

ChaChaCha2012 · 13/09/2020 13:32

Those are the guidelines everyone is following feminist. Unfortunately a continuous cough is also a symptom of a cold.

Feminist10101 · 13/09/2020 13:41

The definition of continuous is specific though.
