Can teenage daughter have friends around if younger children in bed?

We are a larger family, we have 4 children. One is at uni (sort of, to and fro) so sometimes there’s 5 of us
With the new rule next week I’m wondering If the younger 2 are up in bed could teenage daughter have a few friends around?? So 2 adults in the lounge, daughter and say 3 friends in kitchen, totals 6 with 2 in bed upstairs. Have downstairs loo so won’t need to go upstairs. What do you think?

Technically, no.

Grrretel · 12/09/2020 20:03

Legally - no. There's no exception for being asleep or in a different room.

Notthisnotthat · 12/09/2020 20:03

Nope too many households

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 12/09/2020 20:03

Erm no. Otherwise those in very large house wouldn’t have to still stick to 6 people....and they do. The rules are very simple to clarify the confusion for everyone and people are still trying to get around the rules.

Northernsoullover · 12/09/2020 20:03

No. I really wouldn't. They shouldn't want to either and yes it is shit for them but its shit for a lot of people at the moment.

FuckeryOmbudsman · 12/09/2020 20:04

No

Griefmonster · 12/09/2020 20:04

?

Janus · 12/09/2020 20:05

Ok, thank you! I honestly didn’t know if it meant 6 people in the same room rather than 2 being asleep. Not trying to break rules, was a genuine question.

No but the house is not the garden, so could they meet in the garden instead?

Penguin1612 · 12/09/2020 20:06

Do kids under 12 count where you are? In Scotland they dont which may help her have one friend round so its still just 2 households?

Mindymomo · 12/09/2020 20:06

The rule is 6 IN A HOUSE. You could live in a mansion with outhouses, annexes etc and the rule is the same.

FinnyStory · 12/09/2020 20:06

The rules are very simple, max six. That's the point, but surely makes it unworkable and not entirely sensible. Send the younger kids to grandparents, then DD can have mates round....

Grrretel · 12/09/2020 20:07

If there was an exception for rooms then you could have a party with 30 people and just say you have six in the kitchen, six in the living room, six in each bedroom etc.

LilyPond2 · 12/09/2020 20:08

You will get a mix of responses, some claiming that the rule is no more than six in the house and some saying it's fine. The truth is that the regulations containing the new rules have not yet been published, so no one is yet in a position to give a definitive answer on this type of question (though a lot of people think they are).

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 12/09/2020 20:08

How old are the younger ones? Under 12s don't count. However. Isn't the rule 'meet'? If your 2 are in bed they're not 'meeting'...

I'm assuming you're in England. Diff rules in Wales/Scotland

BritneyS · 12/09/2020 20:08

I can’t see anywhere that says you can’t have physically more than 6 people in a building, as long as it’s only 6 socialising together. Happy to be proved otherwise of course but I think it’s a valid question.

Janus · 12/09/2020 20:08

Would do but grandparents either 200 miles or a flight away!
Also in England so children do count.
I suppose she can go to their house if they are a smaller family.
Just checking all the rules

No but I don’t see why your daughter‘s friends couldn’t come round the side of the house and the four of them stay in the garden without coming indoors. Do you have a summer house or similar they could be in for when the weather is chilly or wet? Otherwise I think your DD will have to go to one of her friend’s houses to socialise.

BritneyS · 12/09/2020 20:10

Honestly OP, I can’t see anywhere that the rules say “six in a house”.

Under 12s do count in England Confused
BritneyS · 12/09/2020 20:12

This is the rule/guideline/law (who even knows now): “From Monday 14 September, you must not meet with people from other households socially in groups of more than 6.”

Chikdren do count in the six in England, but not in Wales.

We do have a summer house with heating but no loo! So they could be out there? And if they need the loo come in one at a time? Beginning to think it’s too much like trying to break the rules though?

My friend converted her garage into a den for her teens. Would something like that be a possibility in the future?

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 12/09/2020 20:15

@SillyBub

Shit do they? I thought I'd heard not. I'm so confused. I think I'm going to just lock myself down again and only come out of the house to clap on Thursdays. I stocked up on loo roll today. I'm sorry. I think I saw more evidence of others doing the same 😔
