Just as the title states. I am full of cold, sore throat but no temp. I have coughed a few times, but it's not persistent. If I have to isolate and go for a test then can my dc go to school?? They have no symptoms.

Of course not. They have to self isolate for 14 days or until you’ve had a negative test result

justanotherneighinparadise · 12/09/2020 09:34

Fun and games

FatGirlShrinking · 12/09/2020 09:35

You should all self isolate until you get a negative test, as frustrating as that is.

I also have this cold, temp going from 37.3 - 37.9 on and off without taking any meds.

Very sore throat, congested and coughing. Got my negative result this morning so it is just a shitty cold.

EarlGreyJenny · 12/09/2020 09:36

You don't have Covid symptoms. You have a cold? Are you congested, runny nose etc? If you have a cold then crack on as normal. If you have Covid symptoms everyone stays at home.

VirginiaWolverine · 12/09/2020 09:37

If you have a fever, new persistent cough or loss of taste/smell, they have to stay home. If you don't have any of those symptoms, they can go to school.

dementedpixie · 12/09/2020 09:38

Sounds like the cold, not covid.

ceeveebee · 12/09/2020 09:38

That doesn’t sound like Covid symptoms as no temp and not a persistent cough

ScarlettDarling · 12/09/2020 09:38

But I'd say with those symptoms you don't need a test anyway. Apparently getting a test at the minute is really difficult because of all of the people without Covid symptoms requesting tests! The NHS guidance is clear: temperature, persistent cough, loss of taste or smell then get tested. Snotty nose and sore throat, no test required.

No

Looneytune253 · 12/09/2020 09:40

IF you have to isolate and get a test then yes absolutely. But the current symptoms wouldn't require a test or actual isolation

EarlGreyJenny · 12/09/2020 09:41

Have you had a test? If you have gone for a test and waiting for results whole house has to isolate. Doesn't sound like you need a test.

IdblowJonSnow · 12/09/2020 09:48

But sore throat and being snotty can be symptoms.
And many people with positive tests havent had a sore throat or temperature. It's no wonder people are confused.🤷‍♀️

ceeveebee · 12/09/2020 09:50

Would be helpful if govt gave some more clarity on the symptoms ie what is a fever (I would not say that a temperature of 37.9 needs a test) and what exactly is a persistent cough otherwise we will have everyone with a slight cold testing and no doubt their whole household too just to being the safe side...

Timeforanewname2014 · 12/09/2020 09:52

I thought that it is just the person with symptoms who has to self isolate, not the rest of the family? In fact I'm pretty sure this is what my children's school have confirmed.

fifteenisthemagicnumber · 12/09/2020 09:54

You don't have symptoms of COVID. If you did, your whole household would need to isolate for 14days or until you got a negative test result.

JellyBabiesSaveLives · 12/09/2020 09:55

If your child has to isolate because they’ve been in contact with someone at school with confirmed covid, only your child has to isolate, not the whole family.

If one member of the family gets one of the 3 covid symptoms then the whole family has to isolate and the one with symptoms gets a test.

If you’ve got a sore throat and runny nose, crack on as normal.

workit · 12/09/2020 09:55

@Timeforanewname2014 that's what I thought too. I'm so confused 😫 and also confused about what is or isn't a symptom 😭😭

fifteenisthemagicnumber · 12/09/2020 09:56

@ceeveebee there is info on the NHS website. 37.8 for an adult.

xyzandabc · 12/09/2020 09:57

If you had covid symptoms then yes they would have to isolate until you are tested. But the symptoms you have listed are not covid symptoms so you do not need a test if following the guidelines.

dementedpixie · 12/09/2020 09:58

@Timeforanewname2014 I think you are getting confused. If a child is sent home from school after contact with a positive case then it is just the child that isolates and not the whole family. If the child has symptoms then the whole family isolates for 14 days (the child for 10 days)

This is supposed to be up to date.

If I am unwell and possibly waiting for test results can my dc go to school??
JellyBabiesSaveLives · 12/09/2020 09:59

And here is a nice clear description of the symptoms

www.nhsinform.scot/illnesses-and-conditions/infections-and-poisoning/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-covid-19-general-advice

Symptoms of coronavirus

The most common symptoms are new:

  • continuous cough
  • fever/high temperature (37.8C or greater)
  • loss of, or change in, sense of smell or taste (anosmia)

A new continuous cough is where you:

  • have a new cough that’s lasted for an hour
  • have had 3 or more episodes of coughing in 24 hours
  • are coughing more than usual

A high temperature is feeling hot to the touch on your chest or back (you don’t need to measure your temperature). You may feel warm, cold or shivery.

Trying again

If I am unwell and possibly waiting for test results can my dc go to school??
fifteenisthemagicnumber · 12/09/2020 10:00

@Timeforanewname2014 the rules for self isolating are nothing to do with the school, it's been the advice from the gov / NHS from the start of all this!
