Which companies/services will do well out of Covid19?

DH and I were talking about this. It's already clear that just as Zoom became a household name almost overnight, other companies and services will do well as a result of this pandemic.
New things may also spring up to maximise opportunities.

Our thoughts were:

What will do well:

  • sheds/garden rooms/home office buildings
  • bikes (especially e bikes)
  • everything related to outdoor garden spaces - furniture/ fire pits/ awnings/heaters
  • warm outdoor clothing (much more sitting outside)
  • apps to make booking and collecting check-ins etc easier
  • small groups organised outdoor activities - walking/sports/fitness
  • streaming services and online entertainment
  • home delivery 'nights in' e.g. cocktails/ meals etc
  • online fitness classes

Caravan, Camper and motorhome sellers
Camping shops

Sites like Jackbox that let you play group party games over the internet.

Outdoor venues like country parks where people largely only go in the summer but may be more open to attending in other seasons.

Toilet roll, hand gel and masks.

RedRumTheHorse · 10/09/2020 15:43

You forgot the most obvious

  • supermarkets particularly those with online offerings
  • small food shops
Gingerkittykat · 10/09/2020 15:46

Amazon.
Anything offering delivery, my local corner shop now has an app.

WithASpider · 10/09/2020 15:52

Cleaning companies. It used to be a 11th or 12th thing that was thought about for sites, now it's 1st.

Tech companies E.g. cloud based, Covid stocks did well but there has been a huge correction recently, testing companies, online retailers or those which facilitate online trading eg shopify. It’s worth looking at stock charts - really interesting to see the trends since pre-lockdown.

Anyone that sells or manufactures masks, hand gel.
Zoom, Microsoft teams. Any of these online conferencing programs.
Online delivery of food.

AuntieStella · 10/09/2020 16:00
  • Zoom (whoever owns that must have made a mint, and will continue no doubt to do so)
  • Local grocers who team up with Deliveroo
  • Unfortunately, patio heaters
  • Garden centres generally, plus makers of outdoor toys
  • Royal Mail parcel service
  • Local hubs for parcel collection click
  • seamstresses who will knock up bespoke masks, and mask printing companies (vistaprint doing well, bet it gets competitors)

Big losers

  • yoga studios (oversupply anyway, classes moving online)
  • sandwich shops in business districts
  • dry cleaners

The people who make the 2m floor circles that are everywhere!

Lucygucy · 10/09/2020 16:30

App development companies
Loads of places now seem to have an app and I can only imagine it becoming more common

KitKatastrophe · 10/09/2020 16:31

Companies which sell through QVC or other shopping channels as people on furlough watching TV all day. My husband worked for one such company and April 2020 was their best sales month ever - they sell mattresses so not even covid related.

Gardeners and landscapers as people have realised their garden is not fit for use. I know loads of people who have had new turf or other work done. we tried to get artificial grass put in and they're booked up for 6 months.

Those garden rooms which can be used as a home office, and other home office equipment retailers.

EvilPea · 10/09/2020 16:32

Sign makers

whatthehelldowecare · 10/09/2020 16:33

Employment lawyers..

Speaking from personal experience.. we are busy with the most bleak and depressing work

Mentounasc · 10/09/2020 16:38

Plexiglas manufacturers and installers, for shop counters.

Sewing-machine manufacturers, not just for making masks, but as a hobby that can done from home. We ordered one a few months back and there was huge delay on delivery.

There was a big run on hair clippers during lockdown, and I imagine they're still selling well with people who would rather not wear a mask at a barbershop.

BrieAndChilli · 10/09/2020 16:39

Marquees! I was thinking this yesterday as every pub/sports hall/community hall/church etc I went last had several big marquees set up!

EvilPea · 10/09/2020 17:00

That makes me really sad! Sorry I know there are some places it makes sense, but it’s so crap for the environment.

I think Morrisons have actually announced that their profits are down!
middleager · 10/09/2020 17:10

Amazon and local shops get my cash now.
Domino's were great when some takeaways weren't.

Sadly, designer dog breeders.
There are so many abandoned pets and possibly more to come when the cute baby animals grow...

Ellsbells12 · 10/09/2020 17:41

Finance companies are going well lending /investing money etc

Batshitbeautycosmeticsltd · 10/09/2020 17:44

Divorce solicitors.

ChessieFL · 10/09/2020 17:45

Printing companies. Many offices that normally print and post their letters from their office will have had to outsource this when their offices closed.

WearyandBleary · 10/09/2020 17:49

NHS
Amazon
Small local shops that deliver wines
Breweries that deliver
Veg box places like Riverford
