Moonshot or Pie in the Sky?

Does Boris's so called moonshot plan have any real credibility?
Or am I right to dismiss it as moonshit?

OP posts:
Funkypolar · 10/09/2020 12:28

Of course it won’t work and they’ll be another U-turn.

Eve · 10/09/2020 12:28

Moonshit - love it and I think an accurate summary

QuentinWinters · 10/09/2020 12:29

I'd say its on a par with our world beating track and trace app for beating the virus!

Scottishgirl85 · 10/09/2020 12:30

It is completely unrealistic and I'm assuming we'll have a vaccine before such a scheme could be implemented (if the technology is even possible). But it makes them look like they're doing something.

Topseyt · 10/09/2020 12:31

It is moonshit.

mrshoho · 10/09/2020 12:41

Irresponsible of him to make such announcements. I don't doubt that a quick saliva test will come but until the reliability has been proven and the manufacturing and logistics sorted what was the point of him boasting now? At the same time he was telling the nation that stricter restrictions were needed. I cannot take him or his cabinet seriously. Does he not realise that each time he makes these gestures (technology for all school children who need it, catch up Summer schools, ok by Christmas) his words become more meaningless?

intoxicatedbee · 10/09/2020 12:48

The man is a fucking incompetent, dangerous, idiotHmm

knittingaddict · 10/09/2020 13:00

The man is a fucking incompetent, dangerous, idiot Hmm

This, I'm afraid and it gives me no pleasure to say it.

MarshaBradyo · 10/09/2020 13:02

Unfortunately each game changer floated has proven more difficult - antibody testing etc

knittingaddict · 10/09/2020 13:03

Didn't Matt Hancock get laughed at by the opposition in the Commons today? I don't usually condone such childish antics in Parliament, but I absolutely get where they are coming from.

rosie39forever · 10/09/2020 14:22

£100bn of tax payers money in untendered contracts to his mates for technology that doesn't exist, this government are taking us for fools and bleeding us dry, no doubt useless Dodi will be given a big slice of the pie.

rosie39forever · 10/09/2020 14:22

Dido not Dodi

Usernamealreadyexists · 10/09/2020 15:10

Another vote for moonshit (thanks for coining this very apt word). They cannot even get the current booking website to work or engage with aviation and business in airport testing. BoJo has failed us badly and I can’t see him redeeming himself. Wanker.

bengalcat · 10/09/2020 15:12

Yep another vote for moonshit

notevenat20 · 10/09/2020 15:15

It's probably not going to happen but that's why it is called a moonshot. It's not a terrible idea though so I hope they are working hard to see if it can be done. They will need to do something about false positives/negatives so it's not at all simple.

PinkMacaron · 10/09/2020 15:17

Of course it's moonshit. The technology he's talking about doesn't even exist. It's like me saying that by next month I aim to teleport into work to avoid public transport.

eddiemairswife · 10/09/2020 15:23

One of Boris's problems is that he is averse to speaking in plain, straightforward English. He always has to resort to outlandish metaphors or similes to get his message across.

LearnedResponse · 10/09/2020 15:24

That’s a bit harsh pink. Saliva tests are being trialled, and speeding tests up is definitely feasible. Everyone agrees that (in the absence of a strong vaccine) testing on a huge scale is the most feasible way to get this situation under long term control. There’s nothing fundamentally implausible or unwise about any of it, it’s just that we don’t trust this shower to implement it effectively, and it’s so undeveloped that it’s ridiculous to announce it.

Egghead68 · 10/09/2020 15:24

Prof Sir John Bell seems to think it is feasible! He may be the only one though...

StrangeAddiction · 10/09/2020 15:27

Yep, moonshit, pie in the sky ideas and I cringe when he says such shit. I wonder if anyone in his party facepalms when he come out with it!

I'd rather they spend the obscene amount of money on something else like extending furlough for people who can't go back to work yet or towards schools for extra resources or more/better ppe for nhs/police/teachers/shop staff etc or on ANYTHING that doesn't include backhanders and pay offs to corrupt family and friends!

nextplateau · 10/09/2020 15:28

Is moonshot a made up word? Never heard it used before. So, I don’t really know what it means. Only that this is yet more made up nonsense from a govt that either genuinely doesn’t know what its doing or is distracting/preparing us for a next level change...

canigooutyet · 10/09/2020 15:32

Another load of crap to distract us in the hope we aren't seeing every single cock up they have made and continue to make.
I really hope legal action is taken against all these corrupt wankers.

Headlines this week said they cannot even cope with current testing, and go on here, sm, outside and people are sent hours away for testing, or in a weeks time.

They could have rolled out anti-body testing by now, and wasn't that part of the original plan?

Moondust001 · 10/09/2020 15:34

Everyone agrees that (in the absence of a strong vaccine) testing on a huge scale is the most feasible way to get this situation under long term control.

Do they? Who are they? Large scale testing doesn't control the virus at all - it simply tells you who has it. And as increased testing in some areas is now showing, increasing testing simply tells you that lots more people have it - including large numbers of asymptomatic people. So test more and the numbers go up. I am certainly not opposed to more testing, but I think that people need to be more realistic about tests - they do nothing to manage or control the virus, they simply give you a better idea of it is around.
