Is Britain now strictest in Europe?

I know Germany also had a rise in cases but no tightening of rules.
Anyone know what's happening in France and Spain?

It's possibly the one with the most number of wtf rules introduced when the horse hasn't just bolted it's lived a long and peaceful life and is now in a tin of Pedigree Chum.

Dunno about strictest. Possibly. What with having to play catch up and all that.

PinkMacaron · 09/09/2020 20:24

I think it's the only country that's gone for a strategy of telling us all to get back to work and paying us to fill up restaurants, whilst simultaneously telling us that we're "killing granny".

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 09/09/2020 20:28

I don’t think it’s even the strictest then. We don’t have to wear masks whenever we’re out the house and they aren’t mandatory in most secondary schools.

And if it came to it, I think I’d much rather have a run in over non compliance with a covid marshall than say, the Spanish civil guard.

BabyLlamaZen · 09/09/2020 20:29

We're pretty lax here. The fact they don't even enforce face masks properly. British people are sadly coming across as very entitled.

Chloemol · 09/09/2020 20:34

No

2020notQuiteAsPlanned · 09/09/2020 20:36

@PinkMacaron the friends I have in France are all either part or full time back in the office and have been for ages.

who to?

You could look at this the other way round and say the British are more advanced in agile and home working. Actually since our schools went back a lot of people have started trickling back to our office, though they won't be going in every day.

I don't think we are the strictest, but if we are, hopefully it will shut all the people up who wanted us to be like Spain and shut all the kids indoors (as well as the sweaty virus shedding joggers like me of course).

Howslifenow · 09/09/2020 20:57

Germany has an excellent test and track system. Italy is strict.

Humphriescushion · 09/09/2020 21:11

France has a policy of mask wearing, bars and restaurants close at around 12 in some red zones, cant really think of any other restrictions that affect my daily life. Life feels back to normal for me at least ( have got usee to wearing a mask in shops).

avenueq · 10/09/2020 06:17

@Humphriescushion so the recent rise in cases hasn't made much difference? Why do you think that is?

There’s no simple answer. In some ways yes, in others no. We’re the strictest by far when it comes to rules around social gatherings; and have been throughout the summer (weddings of 150+ people have been permitted in Spain and France). But mask wearing is more lax and also isn’t being imposed on secondary school pupils.

Eng123 · 10/09/2020 06:24

The rules aren't so strict though. My children's Saturday morning classes are all still on, supermarkets are open and many people are back to work/ WFH.

notevenat20 · 10/09/2020 06:28

The UK has been less strict than most countries I believe. We didn’t have to fill out a form to go outside, we don’t have to install a government approved app on our phones, we are not quarantined alone in hotel rooms, children have always been allowed out of the house etc.

Pixxie7 · 10/09/2020 06:44

This country is going from one disaster to another, so no we aren’t the strictest, just the worst at handling it.

Humphriescushion · 10/09/2020 06:47

Not really sure @ avenue, government policy seems to be to just to increase mask wearing and testing and isolating. When i ask people it is because the areas would not have survived without a holiday season and the government cant close the economy again, get through the holiday season and see where we are. Rumours in papers today about stricter measures in red zonesbut even they seem quite light ( have not read properly yet). I am watching the numbers carefully in my area to see if these light measure work. Meanwhile life is normal though i do feel people are slightly more careful where I am.

Porcupineinwaiting · 10/09/2020 06:52

No, it's just people here are more prone to thinking that they are terribly hard done by. Brits love a bit of drama.

avenueq · 10/09/2020 06:53

I'm not British
In my country of origin things are far more back to normal than here.

This is sadly true Sad

What are we doing?

Cases doubled last week, despite no tests available in London etc. We haven't got a grip at all.

LizzieSiddal · 10/09/2020 07:01

I think we’re probably the country with the most confused population. Entirely due to an incompetent govt who give out mixed messages, (Including not sacking Cummings after his Law breaking)

^ This, British people always seem to insist that nobody can tell them what to do. So as soon as there are different restrictions put in place to keep everyone safe, it's blown out of proportion as a horrific invasion into civil liberty.

Tomatoesneedtoripen · 10/09/2020 07:09

when did the 6 rule change anyway?

MadameBlobby · 10/09/2020 07:54

Given the hordes of people largely unmasked and crowded together at the Tour de France, France certainly don’t appear to be giving a shit. Shortly to be replicated in Italy and Spain I fear.
