I know Germany also had a rise in cases but no tightening of rules.
Anyone know what's happening in France and Spain?

I know the U.K. government are shite but I have to say I find this sort of reverse British exceptionalism on these threads weird. It’s like some people are always desperate to see Britain in the worst light possible all the time.

Toontown · 10/09/2020 08:03

The problem goes back to failing to lockdown sooner and shit testing. Because Boris failed to get his lazy arse to attend meetings he then failed to act quick enough. As a result we need stricter measures for longer than some other countries. Also we have a much high number of non compliance than other countries.

Toontown · 10/09/2020 08:04

I do thing Britain is exceptional in its shite government see also USA, Brazil, Peru...

Toontown · 10/09/2020 08:04

Yes. "Other countries" - rarely named - are all run by responsible, caring governments, and are populated by well-informed, civic minded, mask-wearing people.

When things get back to normal, some MNers would do well to get out a bit more. Britain isn't as different from 'other countries' as they think.

The French PM was at the aforementioned TdF the other day with crowds of people unmasked going on about how life goes on and that France is partying etc. Imagine the reaction if that was Boris
MadameBlobby · 10/09/2020 08:08

Exactly @IcedPurple. Where was it a bus driver was murdered by passengers he challenged for not wearing a mask? Was that in the U.K.? No of course, it was France.

IcedPurple · 10/09/2020 08:10

Also we have a much high number of non compliance than other countries.

Which 'other countries' and what is your evidence? MN curtain twitchers complaining about 'groups of teens' or people 'flocking' to beaches doesn't count. You'll hear these same complaints in 'other countries' too.

Lipz · 10/09/2020 08:23

No, we're more strict in Ireland. Our pubs haven't even opened yet. Only pubs serving food are opened and you have to spend a min of 9 euro on food and you are only allowed to stay 1 hour 45 mins.

If cases rise in a county, that County is locked down for 2 weeks. People that need to travel through a locked down county are not allowed to stop in that county.

Masks are mandatory everywhere, buses, schools, shops etc you are not allowed into a shop or on a bus without a mask. Kids have to wear masks all day in school.

Can only have 6 people indoors, from 3 households, 15 outdoors. We have this rule a while now. It was less.

avenueq · 10/09/2020 08:42

Totally agree Madame Blobby, very strange!
@Lipz very interesting when still there was a rise in cases recently

TBF in the interview I saw him do on either FR 2 or FR 3 I didn't get the impression he was completely overjoyed by some of what he saw. He was plainly and clearly a bit p'd off at the lack of mask/lack of SD'ing wearing seen on the cols on that stage and was telling people to respect the rules..

Of course the follow up to that is just a day or two later the PM's chaperon for most of that visit, Mr Prudhomme, tested positive........

anuffername · 10/09/2020 10:17

The French president has had to be tested because he shared a car with someone from the TdF who has now tested positive (haven't seen any update on the result of the test).

We are in a region which has gone back into the red zone, but that mainly applies to the big cities. Masks are compulsory everywhere in the cities. We are very rural - our "county" has a quarter of a million residents, there have been 9 deaths in total. We are fully expecting the restrictions to start tightening again before too long.

notimagain · 10/09/2020 12:52

Mind you it's kind of Blush to grumble about the fans social distancing and then find you've possibly picked the virus up by sitting in the lead car with/from the general Director of the TdF.
