I'd like to keep an eye on my local area so that any lockdown are not completely out of the blue.

Sorry if this has already been pointed out, I couldn't find the right place. Thank you

@littleowl1 can you help?

SpringFan · 07/09/2020 22:34

The Zoe covid Symptom study app from Kings College gives daily estimated vales. You get to report on your own health daily as well, and they have other question sets some weeks as well, if you want.

StatisticalSense · 07/09/2020 22:36

coronavirus.data.gov.uk/cases and then select your local authority. Can also check slightly outdated data at an even more local level using a link further down on that page.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 07/09/2020 22:39

Where do you live? Welsh Government are publishing this information daily on social media

boys3 · 07/09/2020 23:01

www.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=47574f7a6e454dc6a42c5f6912ed7076

gives lower level, MSOA, geography - with the caveat that cases less than 3 are not shown. An MSOA has on average 7,500 people, so more precise again than a full council area total. Map only applies to England though.

boys3 · 07/09/2020 23:03

so essentially the link to what StatisticalSense said note to self, read rest of thread before posting

Hi @Hannah2199

I wanted to know local case numbers before sending my daughter back to school last term. So many frightening case numbers in the media - but they were all national figures - we had no idea what was going on in our local area - no idea how many cases there were on our doorstep.

I'm an ex data analyst so I scoured the government's daily data publications and sourced the data to council level, built a data model so I could extract and analyse it daily.

I was referring to it daily and finding it invaluable and then I realised that there must be so many others in the same boat as - people who really want to know what is happening locally, where they live and work and send their kids to school.

So, I decided to set up a data service - www.covidmessenger.com

I extract the data for every council in England and summarise it into a concise, quick and easy to understand email explaining how many cases are in your council, whether the rate is rising or falling etc.

Feedback has been phenomenal - I think, like us, so many just want to know what is going on locally so they can take sensible precautions before the situation gets so dire that its making national headlines.

You are most welcome to sign up for a daily email update for up to 5 councils. I am hoping by next week people can sign up to as many areas as they want. But for now, due to some technical limitations, it's just 5.

Thanks for highlighting the thread to me @Growgrassgreen

www.travellingtabby.com/scotland-coronavirus-tracker/

Very comprehensive for Scotland.

ListenLinda · 08/09/2020 06:33

@littleowl1 thank you very much for setting that up, I’ve just signed up.

What time of day do the alerts come in?

notevenat20 · 08/09/2020 06:34

Is it possible to get:

Percentage of tests that are positive

and

Number of hospitalisations?

I know I have seen these figures summarised but I have no idea how to find them on a daily basis or per council.

littleowl1 · 08/09/2020 07:05

@notevenat20

The number of negative tests is not published in the governments daily coronavirus data release. And to the best of my knowledge, it is not published elsewhere. If it is published (now or in the future) my best guess would be that a national figure may be buried somewhere in the weekly PHE report.

Hospitalisation data are published here (but not to local council level):
coronavirus.data.gov.uk/healthcare

littleowl1 · 08/09/2020 07:07

@ListenLinda

They are sent at 8am and they start the day after you sign up. So you will get your first alert tomorrow at 8am.

I hope you find them helpful.

Sparkledot · 08/09/2020 07:16

@littleowl1 thanks for that, I've also just signed up

ListenLinda · 08/09/2020 07:20

@littleowl1 thank you i’ll keep an eye out for it!

notevenat20 · 08/09/2020 07:22

Thanks @littleowl1

I do read a percentage figure sometimes in the press. I just don’t know where it comes from.

littleowl1 · 08/09/2020 07:36

Yeah, it is either an ad hoc release from the govt or the weekly PHE report.

Pixel77 · 08/09/2020 09:15

I look at this BBC link. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-51768274

IncidentsandAccidents · 08/09/2020 09:29

@littleowl1 thank you so much for your brilliant service, I signed up a couple of weeks ago. I've also found the PHE map referenced above very helpful for keeping track of local cases (phe.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=47574f7a6e454dc6a42c5f6912ed7076)

StillDumDeDumming · 08/09/2020 09:38

The messenger service is brilliant - tells you exactly what you need to know. I like facts!! Thank you

littleowl1 · 08/09/2020 09:52

@StillDumDeDumming and @IncidentsandAccidents

You are so welcome. I'm so glad you find it useful.

nuggles · 08/09/2020 09:54

@littleowl1 another thank you for setting up this service too.

I registered a few weeks ago after I saw you post about it before, it is so useful Smile

Ormally · 08/09/2020 11:01

Another one sending thanks for covidmessenger.com - one of the clearest and most accessible sources of info I'm getting at the moment.

ChanceChanceChance · 08/09/2020 11:15

Which ones factor in an estimate for asymptomatic/undiagnosed cases? The test numbers are low, but active cases may be much higher?

This worries me a lot about schools.

notevenat20 · 08/09/2020 11:37

The ONS do a weekly survey where they randomly test people. That catches the asymptomatic people.

CrunchyCarrot · 08/09/2020 12:26

Thank you so much @littleowl1! Really helpful. :)
