Kids sent home for a few weeks

It's started already. Two yeargroups in separate secondary schools have been sent home for a few weeks. And a sixth form in another school. All 3 schools are within a mile of each other .
Our son's school is quarter of a mile away so I have a bad feeling we will be next

Teachers do not have to isolate because, officially, they should never be within 2m of the children for more then 15mins. Classrooms have been reorganised that the teacher stands at the front, at least 2m away from the nearest desk. Obviously the reality of this is another thing.

We’re in Leicestershire too and have been back for two weeks tomorrow. It’s really not surprising if the schools affected are anything like DCs school. No social distancing happening, all mixed year groups sitting randomly on the school bus and also mixed year bubbles in the corridors and canteen. Am assuming we won’t be far behind in closing some of the bubbles or even the whole school.

Apologies for my title. It really should have been "kids sent home for a couple weeks "

Inset days? By that you mean the teachers and adults in school?

The positive cases in the 6 year groups here are all children, not school adults. We can't be blamed yet!

You're right that these are cases that are most likely caught whilst out of school. But they've now be brought into school, by those children the government would have had us believe can't get it. The schools have obviously forgotten to install their magic Covid barriers.

Aragog yes I was thinking more about schools where 6 adults had tested positive early on.

If it’s the children so early on it’s likely community spread reflected in school numbers

What happens if one of my dc is sent home because of positive cases in their school.
Do we all have to isolate? (2 DC in 2 different schools). Does whichever child was sent home have to isolate from the rest of the household?
I've tried googling but didn't actually find an answer.

justchecking1 · 08/09/2020 12:19

The child sent home has to isolate from the rest of the household, but the rest of the household can go out and about as normal.

Not sure how practical this is though

More classes sent home in neigbouring borough.
A year 8 class and teacher. Oh, teacher taught year 7, so they're home too.

I wondered this too. DC at different secondaries, in different local authorities, both in high risk areas.

Thanks. Wouldn't be very practical at all in my house so fingers crossed it doesn't happen.

Yep, dd's school have sent a year group home today following a positive test for one of the pupils. It was inevitable, sadly, but even I didn't expect it to happen so soon.

I know of quite a few schools locally with confirmed cases.

I really feel for the teachers, especially those who are more vulnerable.

WhoWants2Know · 08/09/2020 19:29

It's mind boggling watching the number of schools with reported cases keep rising so steadily. I expected some bubbles to burst over the next couple of months , but not hundreds within the first two weeks.

RoseAndRose · 08/09/2020 19:31

Anyone know if there is a website which is collating a verified list of partial or total school closures?

It shows the impact of community cases when you can test. I wonder where we are in comparison to circulation pre lock down.

i would be really interested to see this. most media sources don't seem to be covering it.

At this stage the children are most likely to have caught it at home. However they've now brought it into school with them.

Let's home schools have that magic Covid barrier up as

I've been school a week and already have a sore throat which feels like sandpaper and what feels like the start of a possible cold. So if the children can pass that on (we've had children in school with colds so most likely from them than from home) are we totally sure they can't pass in anything more?!
