Kids sent home for a few weeks

It's started already. Two yeargroups in separate secondary schools have been sent home for a few weeks. And a sixth form in another school. All 3 schools are within a mile of each other .
Our son's school is quarter of a mile away so I have a bad feeling we will be next

Nottinghamshire area

3 primary schools have had teachers/ children with a positive covid 19 test.
2 teachers in one of the schools and a headteacher hospitalised from another school.

Not feeling confident at all.

MummaPI · 07/09/2020 19:10

@starrynight19 where do you get the figures from for school closures please? I'd be keen to have a look.

Aragog · 07/09/2020 19:40

Sheffield here - 4 schools, 6 year groups that I am aware of

starrynight19 · 07/09/2020 19:46

MummaPi toryfibs on Twitter is updating it , now at 113 cases

they cover all of them, as our area isn't in it. At our school year 11s all sent home today too.

NewYearNewTwatName · 07/09/2020 19:50

Edit they don't* cover all of them

Alicenwonderland · 07/09/2020 19:53

My nephew was sent home today for a sore throat! His brother too who is fine, they aren't allowed back until he can have a test. Nearest test is over an hours drive away as they're all booked up in our area. Madness!

DeliciouslyFemale · 07/09/2020 20:01

I’m waiting to hear if my youngest has been accepted back to college, this year. The young adults all have SN and many other underlying conditions. Most of the class from last year got shielding letters, so I’ve no idea how this is going to work.

i wonder how these figures will compare to when the weather turns colder and viruses spread much quicker. Doesn't look good for schools staying open over the winter.

10storeylovesong · 07/09/2020 20:08

I'm guessing the city mentioned is Salford. And I feel that the schools are making a point, because as far as I am aware it is one child in each year group which has tested positive and the whole year has been sent to isolate until 18th September. I'm not a teacher, so happy to be corrected, but I thought it was 2 cases to pop a bubble?!

we are no where near Salford, and only 1 child tested positive. Believe me, this was the last thing the school wanted to do, let alone make some sort of point. especially its GCSE year!

The postal tests arrive next day :) Much better than that drive!

I'm in Manchester. Our local primary school has closed to Year 5 pupils as the teacher has tested positive.

Then I heard on the radio that a Manchester high school has closed to two year groups.

stovetopespresso · 07/09/2020 20:14

its weird isn't it, it feels like we're working hard and going back to normal then suddenly this happens

toomuchlikemyusername · 07/09/2020 20:17

I suspect our children may be the same school NewYear Absolutely gutted for those year 11s, my own includedSad
I hope some decisions are made quickly about GCSEs for the entire countrywide cohort.

cardibach · 07/09/2020 20:19

Tory Fobs on Twitter is keeping track by searching local News reports. Pretty sure some are being missed because I know of one near me which hasn’t been in the press. Anyway, these are the counts for last Tuesday and today. Massive increase.

Fins not fobs!

cardibach · 07/09/2020 20:20

Damnit. Fibs.

NothingIsWrong · 07/09/2020 20:24

Well last Tuesday, only Scottish (and possible NI?) schools were open.

168/32700 is 0.5%

SleepingStandingUp · 07/09/2020 20:25

Thing is this doesn't show schools aren't safe until the kids/ teachers sent home subsequently test positive, and that data is much harder to get. It just proves that community transmission is still happening

Which ones in Sheffield @Aragog? Can't find anything online
AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 07/09/2020 20:34

I’m pleased to say that my kids have been back at both primary and secondary for a month now with no rise in cases, no tests needed, no burst bubbles and the teachers aren’t dropping down dead as some predicted. Hopefully it continues
