Am I the only one not to take a holiday abroad?

Is it me, or have all my friends seemed to have had lovely hot holidays abroad this year? We didn't book anything until a few weeks back and have just had 4 days in North of England. That was our only summer holiday as we worked all through the blasted heatwave.

Now all we can see on fb is photos of friends who have been to lovely hot sunny places for a week or two. Italy, Greece, France. Even my DS21 has just flown off to Amsterdam.

Were we wrong to staycation or should we just have gone abroad and hang the consequences? Beginning to think we missed something. Is there a pandemic or did we imagine it all (no - that's another thread!!)?

We didn’t go abroad and have already booked our UK holiday for next Summer! Turns out not going to an airport, hiring a car and driving for 3 hours gives you an extra day of holiday :)

We haven't been abroad this year - two short breaks in the UK instead.

Nope we've not been abroad and have agreed we won't until there's either a vaccine or something changes dramatically

I've not even had a holiday in the UK.

I am ‘the type’ that has.

Originally had a long haul holiday booked, which we cancelled. I am an NHS worker and worked all through without taking any AL until the time I had booked off in August. It was hell. Work was harrowing and the stress of trying to juggle the children with no holiday clubs and wraparound available almost broke me. We also lost a few family friends to covid.

We had a last minute UK break. The area was heaving, people spilling out of pubs and little social distancing. It did not feel safe. We also booked a last minute holiday to Cyprus for the 2nd week. We had a (private) negative covid test before going. As did everyone else on the plane. We had private accommodation once there. It was just the lovely, safe, re-charging break that I needed before the madness of school returning and going back to work.

No-one should or shouldn’t have book any type of holiday that they weren’t comfortable with, but I have to say that the our abroad trip felt less covid risky than the uk one.

You must live in a very different circle. I don't know anyone who has flown since March. I know one family who have been abroad. They drove there and stayed in a rented summer house. Little contact with others. Cycling and swimming.
