Did anyone else’s symptoms start like this before they tested positive?

Friday night I had a tickle in my throat which I expected to turn into a mild cold. By Saturday night I had a blazing sore throat which literally felt like my throat was on fire. Then I started coughing and feeling shivery but my temp was normal according to the thermometer. I’ve also been exhausted and slept and slept! This morning I’ve got a cough, slight tight chest, a bit of a runny nose and I’ve just realised I can’t smell anything. Not my shower gel, my perfume, anything! It is so weird. I’m having a test this morning. Did anyone else test positive with these symptoms?
The who mentions sore throats but they aren’t officially on the U.K. symptom list.

I work for a tracing service. Symptoms are varied and sore throat is one of them. Loss of smell is a main one.

Northernsoullover · 07/09/2020 23:30

People are coming through with blocked noses, sinus pain, headaches, chest aches, upset stomachs. You name it we are seeing it.

Medievalist · 07/09/2020 23:38

it is worth nothing that loss of the senses of smell and taste is also a symptom of colds and flu!

I think the difference is that with Covid it can be a complete loss rather than impaired. I'm old and have never ever had a cold or flu where I've completely lost my sense of taste and smell, but have had them reduced. I know someone who had Covid early on before this was an acknowledged symptom and she was saying to me for a couple of weeks that she literally couldn't taste or smell anything at all.

eeeyoresmiles · 07/09/2020 23:51

When they say a sore throat isn't a core symptom, they're not saying covid doesn't produce sore throats. They're just saying a sore throat by itself (without the cough, temp or loss of taste/smell) isn't a common enough presentation of covid 19 for it to be worthwhile testing people who only have a sore throat and no other symptoms.

I had a sore throat, dp had a bad headache and we both had terrible cough and fever

Cinderellashoes · 08/09/2020 03:54

I’m wide awake with the pain in my sinuses Sad still no result, hoping it comes through this morning. I feel absolutely wiped out but am up with our little boy who doesn’t want to sleep!

Onlinelinda

Shivery , sore thread and headache, plus diarrhoea were key symptoms for me. Utterly exhausted. Sore back and chest followed a week later. Cough intermittent

This is exactly how mine started in March.

IHateCoronavirus · 08/09/2020 04:15

Mine started with a tickle in the throat, then more of an itch, then a burn.

Myshitisreal · 08/09/2020 04:32

Have you any sudafed nose spray type stuff??? Helps me when I suffer with my sinuses. Hope you're OK

whatswithtodaytoday · 08/09/2020 04:39

I had a terrible sore throat, fever and cough a few weeks ago, thanks to my child bringing it home from nursery. We all got tested and it was negative - it became apparent it was tonsillitis from the white spots on my throat.

The Covid loss of taste and smell is different because it's not caused by a blocked nose, unlike when you have a cold.

Cinderellashoes · 08/09/2020 05:19

Thanks for keeping me company this morning. Have just got back into bed while dh sorts the kids.

My symptoms started as a tickle, then a burning throat, feeling sick, hot and cold (but no temp) and headache. Felt normal ish on Sunday evening, by Sunday midnight I had developed a cough; got tested yesterday. Have since had blinding headaches, the most horrendous blocked nose and a really annoying continuous cough.

I suffer with vertigo and sinusitis at the best of times so I’m trying to avoid sudafed as I tend to get rebound congestion which is even worse. It’s a long standing joke in this house that whenever I get a cold I’ll progress to either vertigo or sinusitis Angry

I’m really hoping results come today, I just want to have an answer now

The other thing is the exhaustion, have slept or lay down from Sunday, I’m not even tired where I want to sleep I just don’t want to move!

You poor thing. I hope you start to feel better soon whatever it turns out to be.

Bmidreams · 08/09/2020 21:15

How are you feeling? Any results? Flowers

Cinderellashoes · 08/09/2020 21:24

I feel rough! Pain and tightness in my chest (which sometimes happens after a bad cold as I have asthma), sick and headachey but the tiredness is something else. I have slept and slept and slept today! No results, I phoned and They said to give it until tomorrow. Thank you so much for asking Flowers

Sounds awful, get well soon

Cinderellashoes · 09/09/2020 03:13

Well this is great fun! Currently sat in the bathroom waiting to be sick. I’ve felt sick for hours and I can’t seem to shake it. Wondering if this is whatever virus I’ve got or something unrelated!

I've had those symptoms but negative test
MrsBennetsnerves · 09/09/2020 03:57

Get well soon OP. I had many of your symptoms including nausea and vomiting a few days in. Not pleasant but that at least only lasted one day. Hopefully you'll get your results soon.

Cinderellashoes · 09/09/2020 05:17

Honestly can’t take much more of this. I was barely sick but it took off the nausea for a few hours but now I’m back on the bathroom floor waiting to be sick again. I’ve never experienced anything like this and I’m so fed up of it. One thing I can’t stand is being and feeling sick!!!

Cinderellashoes · 09/09/2020 05:18

Also feels like I’ve got an upset tummy too which is just fantastic as I don’t know whether to sit on the loo or lean over it! Sad

Bmidreams · 09/09/2020 05:32

That sounds rough, op. Hopefully you're nearly through this part of it. I know on the Covid19 Zoe app v&d and nausea are symptoms. It can't last much longer Flowers

ButterflyBitch · 09/09/2020 05:36

I started with a tight chest and sore throat on Sunday. Am now really snotty, half blocked up then really runny nose. I started coughing yesterday. Currently awake as keep coughing. Chest hurts and feels more difficult to take a breathe. Throat feels worse now but could just be more irritated with the coughing. No temp at all so far. Can still taste and smell. I was exhausted just walking from car to test centre and back again yesterday. Not looking forward to calling in sick again. Also assume the whole family has to isolate now I’ve started coughing? Which will be fun with two healthy kids. Really hope test is negative but doesn’t stop me feeling rotten right now. ☹️

Cinderellashoes · 09/09/2020 05:36

Thank you, I feel like crying and have had a little cry during the night

I’ve got an upset tummy but haven’t been sick yet and I wish I could so I could go off to sleep for an hour after, lying in bed feeling sick is just miserable

I keep panicking too which isn’t helping. Lots and lots of people have these symptoms and make a full recovery right? I’ve just been discharged from therapy; this isn’t really helping!

Graciebobcat · 09/09/2020 05:45

I've been getting a slight sore throat that goes away again and a slight sniffle every now and then all year, but a lot more often than this usually happens. I really have no idea.

ButterflyBitch · 09/09/2020 05:51

Sorry you feel like rubbbish op. I hope you feel better soon. I had very similar to this at the beginning of lockdown. Was mildly unwell for 5 days then crashed and was really poorly for another 5 days. I recovered. Felt like shit but I recovered.
The symptoms were very similar to what I feel now except I’m on day 4 now and feel rubbish so hope I don’t get any worse. Obviously they weren’t testing then so couldn’t be sure but I did think it weird that the tight chest started before I started coughing. And the same has happened ah again now. Of course now I’m coughing it’s making it harder/tighter on my chest. Also worried about work judging me, It’s the first full week of term. I can’t go in when I’m coughing though can I? Even if I felt well enough? Which I don’t right now.
