I'm worried I may have asymptomatic flu. Where can I get a test?

Just that really. Flu can be very dangerous and can lead to ME. I would hate to unknowingly pass it on.

Flu can be very dangerous. More dangerous to children than covid.

What's your point?

Treesofwood · 02/09/2020 20:39

Niceupthedance that you can have asymptomatic flu as well as asymptomatic covid. Always has done. That's how it spreads and kills tens of thousands of people every year. It also cause long term conditions. Like "long covid". We should test for that too. And if someone in the family has it they should all isolate for a period of time. Why is it OK to pass on flu? Makes little sense to me.

OP if you hold you breath for 5 minutes, I can safely say that you'll probably not pass your asymptomatic illness onto anyone else anymore.

Neither will you pass your symptomatic one on...

We will all be grateful for your community contribution.

Well, this is awkward. I'm embarrassed for you OP.

ragged · 02/09/2020 22:06

yanbu. Except on the point that there indeed are tests for influenza, A & B.

FuckeryOmbudsman · 02/09/2020 22:08

Flu levels on the country are so low that the (routine) weekly monitoring reports have yet to begin.

Community transmission has yet to begin

Where do you think you have contacted your case?

Community hygiene measures for flu are of course completely different mainly because of the vaccine.

Mischance · 02/09/2020 22:12

This silly facetious nonsense helps no-one and is certainly not clever.

ineedaholidaynow · 02/09/2020 22:13

Surely if you are following all the guidelines you won't be a danger to anyone!

ConfusedPanda · 02/09/2020 22:16

I seem to be in the minority but I thought this was good.

Needcoffeecoffeecoffee · 02/09/2020 22:18

Asymptomatic testing for covid is for key workers who work with vulnerable people
To protect those vulnerable people
The flu vaccination is offered to those people for the same reason
The additional PPE and hand washing social distancing may reduce flu this year but it is the only counter measure against covid
I'm not sure what your post is trying to say??

Hangingbasketofdoom · 02/09/2020 22:40

@Treesofwood

Can't get a test for flu though. Only covid.

OP, I can’t believe you think flu is real 🥱

Obviously its different here in the US but yesterday my city used the emergency alert system for mobiles to "urge" literally everyone to go get tested. Hundreds of thousands of people. Even without symptoms and no reason to think you've been exposed. Seems excessive! What is the point? Demand for testing has dropped off because not as many people are sick. Hospitalisations are consistently declining. How will testing more change anything?

fluro · 03/09/2020 06:28

I enjoyed this. I’m feeling a bit awkward for those who don’t get it

fluro · 03/09/2020 06:30

And last week the Victorian government was hassling asymptomatic people to get tested just to keep their test numbers up and threatening not to end lockdown unless 10000s asymptomatic people, who have been locked in their homes for weeks, keep getting tested

TheDayAfterTomorrow · 03/09/2020 06:37

What a silly thread.

Practice social distancing, wear a mask and keep on top of hygiene if you're worried you're a carrier.

UK government now planning to trial routine testing.
Redcrayons · 03/09/2020 06:48

It stops Asymptotic people from infecting other people.

ChanceEncounter · 03/09/2020 06:49

Trump so thinks testing doesn't change anything, and wants to limit testing, to keep numbers of cases low.

I think recent UK problems getting tests probably mean our confirmed cases should be higher.

Treesofwood · 03/09/2020 07:47

The fact is we could have prevented flu transmission every year, and therefore saved lives by testing testing testing, practising social distancing and masking our children. Especially 2017/2018 which was a very high death rate year. Lots of asymptomatic flu carriers. Why didn't we? And before anyone mentions the vaccine, these deaths happened with it. It's a bit of a guessing game and in some years almost totally ineffective.

So stay home.
Fashion yourself some fetching headwear out of tin foil.

Untrue. They are hoping to find the asymptomatic people with COVID in the community as cases and deaths are still occurring. (Tests, however, have been dropping.) How would they know who to hassle, anyway? Apart from, well, almost everyone without symptoms?
Judashascomeintosomemoney · 03/09/2020 07:59

Flu can be very dangerous. More dangerous to children than covid
Which is why vulnerable people and children are eligible for the vaccine.

And before anyone mentions the vaccine, these deaths happened with it
Which is potentially because, though available, the vaccine isn’t compulsory.
