Anyone recently returned from abroad & needing to self-isolate...have you been checked on?

Want to ask the question to those who are currently self-isolating after returning from travel abroad: has any official got in touch with you to check up on whether you are indeed in quarantine at home/chosen location?

Has this been in the form of a telephone call? or a home visit and knock on the front door? what did they ask, did they ask to see all occupants etc?

Asking for a friend...

@Ellsbells12

It is random they call and also check your gps on phone
I'm pretty sure they don't check the GPS on your phone, how would 'they' access that?
InDeoEstMeaFiducia · 30/08/2020 21:48

Haahaa! No, 'they' don't.
PinkPiranha11 · 30/08/2020 21:55

@Ellsbells12😂😂😂 They do not check GPS on your phone. That would be illegal and there would be far more fines if that was the case. I’m supposed to be quarantining now (I’m not doing it because we live in a country where house arrest for no reason is illegal as far as I remember...) and I would have been contacted by now if that was the case.

awesomeaircraft · 31/08/2020 12:14

Did my 14 days and no check or call from the authorities. My neighbours knew though, so I guess I had an informal check via my immediate community.

cantdothisnow1 · 31/08/2020 12:36

Just finished 14 days, no call, no text, no email no visit.

Nothing.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 31/08/2020 12:43

@AluminumMonster

Want to ask, made decision to go on holiday but don't want to quarantine when I come home, has anyone been caught?

Asking for a friend...

Don't go on holiday then if you don't want to quarantine.

It's not rocket science.

Tatum1234 · 31/08/2020 14:47

No check here, currently day 13 for my sons.

CouldBeOuting · 31/08/2020 15:42

Final day for us! No checks of any description.....

Freetodowhatiwant · 31/08/2020 15:45

I think I might have to end mine on day 13 the way things are panning out.

topofthewardrobe · 31/08/2020 15:48

DD1 is telling me I am ruining her life because I won't let her attend the induction day at her new 6th Form as its on day 14 of quarantine.....apparently "all her friends" are ignoring quarantine.....

Did quarantine come in when you were already on holiday? What a PITA to have to miss an important college induction.

Delatron · 31/08/2020 15:54

We had the forms checked but no check after that.

Friends had a phone call the day after they returned. ‘Are you at home and do you know you need to stay there for 14 days?’. Yes. Ok bye.

I am very dubious about all these stories of police turning up at houses. They just don’t have the man power! I think if someone reported you then maybe.

Also had friends claiming that ‘they’ track your GPS phone location. Firstly that’s illegal and secondly, again the manpower? You honestly think the government has people tracking the whereabouts of 100s of thousands of people? Just no!

They are relying on people doing the right thing. A total of about three people have been fined and 2 of them were at border control for not filling in the form.

OVienna · 31/08/2020 16:01

@MrsSchadenfreude

I wasn’t checked on. In fact no-one checked my passenger locator form. I just went straight through the electronic gates, picked up my suitcase and went home. It struck me that it would be pretty easy to find a flight arriving that you didn’t need to quarantine from, that arrived at the same time as yours, and complete the form as if you had been on that flight. When I checked in, I was asked if I had completed the form, but wasn’t asked to show it. If I’d been travelling with hand luggage only, no-one would have asked anything!
This is interesting. I guess they could check the passenger manifest to verify...but is someone cross checking these forms against the manifest from the flights in question? Somehow, I think not.

We completed the forms and went through electronic gates. No one looked at our form at all and I've had no contact with anyone. They also have four telephone numbers and an email to reach me on. So, plenty of opportunities to do so. We are abiding fully but it is interesting. Who knows? Maybe they will phone this week.

OVienna · 31/08/2020 16:04

@Delatron

I think if someone reported you then maybe. I wouldn't put the number of busybodies out there as low, particularly.

However, plenty of people are daft enough to help people inclined to report along, with things like ubiquitous and revealing social media posts. So.

Freetodowhatiwant · 31/08/2020 16:11

The way I see it is okay they only wanted to see I had filled out the form at border control as you can wave your QR code at them and it isn't scanned but of course they then DO have your name and address on file. The stories of them calling must be true (well some of them) so there MUST surely be someone going through the forms. But the amount of people coming into the country and the manpower they have to check must mean not many people get a call. I just wouldn't want to be that person they make an example of! I guess that is what they are replying upon, that we all have enough concern to stick to the rules.

Decentsalnotime · 31/08/2020 16:28

* Also had friends claiming that ‘they’ track your GPS phone location. *

Let me guess. They also believe that corona is related to 5g network and that the earth is flat?

I can’t imagine being friends with anyone so daft!

Delatron · 31/08/2020 16:35

They’re normally quite sensible/intelligent people. I think everyone thinks we can just be tracked by our phones these days without actually thinking through what the would entail for the government!

Freetodowhatiwant · 31/08/2020 16:39

I don't think that the government can track us where we are but I am wondering if they could use it to track our movements retrospectively, say, in a court case? I know this would be a huge undertaking to do if they were going to do it for lots of people but if they were going to make an example out of a few maybe they could...? I don't really know.

CityDweller · 31/08/2020 18:12

Day 12. No checks here.

Lols at ‘track your GPS’.

Northernlass99 · 01/09/2020 17:15

Notice how every case of the police knocking on the door is 'my friend' or 'someone I know'. Not a single first person account from someone saying it happened to them.

Also LOL at GPS tracking.

JacobReesMogadishu · 01/09/2020 17:23

But on MN it seems 60% of people don’t answer withheld calls or unexpected door knockers. If I was isolating and in a work online live teaching session I ignore the door. I’m still here. 🤷‍♀️

Freetodowhatiwant · 03/09/2020 10:01

Just bumping to see if anyone else has been checked on! Day 11 here and no contact. I’ve hated every minute but now I have an end in sight. I think we are going to have to take the kids out one day early as I worry for them spending 14 days at home and then starting a new school in a new town without having even left the house.

LurkerTurnedPoster · 03/09/2020 10:26

One week in here, neither of us have left the house. So far no calls, texts or knocks at the door. Anyone 'tracking our phones GPS' will have nodded off due to boredom by now ;-)

EmmaStone · 03/09/2020 10:40

We're on day 11 here, no calls, nothing. First day back at school today, they should be online learning, but their systems aren't properly working, so we're all sat at the dining table twiddling our thumbs (well I'm working). So frustrated, was this close to just driving them in 🤬.

GoBackToPartyCity · 03/09/2020 10:48

We did 14 days quarantine after coming back from Spain. My sister had a call from an 0300 number making sure they were home. We had absolutely nothing. I’m in the police and I haven’t seen one single incident created for quarantine checks in my area.

Also...track your GPS? Not a chance.

Freetodowhatiwant · 03/09/2020 11:10

That’s good to know about not hearing anything within the police!

I know there’s a moral imperative to isolate and I have indeed been sticking to the rules but I also have a child who has previously had anxiety about attending school starting a new school so I’m going to be breaking the law on the Last day.
