Anyone recently returned from abroad & needing to self-isolate...have you been checked on?

TurquoiseDress · 29/08/2020 15:21

Want to ask the question to those who are currently self-isolating after returning from travel abroad: has any official got in touch with you to check up on whether you are indeed in quarantine at home/chosen location?

Has this been in the form of a telephone call? or a home visit and knock on the front door? what did they ask, did they ask to see all occupants etc?

Asking for a friend...

People turning up at your door 😂. Sorry but it’s a total urban myth. Public Health England is in the process of being disbanded. The local police in my city are too overstretched to attend “minor burglaries” let alone go door knocking for quarantine-dodgers.

PinkPiranha11 · 30/08/2020 13:44

@Freetodowhatiwant
Just take your kids out for a walk. Seriously, no one is going to stop you.

TurquoiseDress · 30/08/2020 13:45

So it sounds like, from those who have recently returned from abroad & are speaking first hand, nobody has even got in touch let alone turned up at their doorstep!

My parents had a call, on day 13 of their 14 day quarantine after coming back from Spain. They just asked if they were quarantining 🤷🏼‍♀️

PeaceAndHarmoneeee · 30/08/2020 14:05

We're on day 12 of quarantine 😬

Passport control checked DH's form but not mine- I was getting it up on my phone and the officer said 'oh don't worry, I've seen your husband's' and let us through.

No one has called either of us.

myfriendflicka9 · 30/08/2020 15:58

I almost wish they were checking rigorously as then I wouldn't feel like such a muppet for taking it so seriously. DCs are all having meltdowns and DD1 is telling me I am ruining her life because I won't let her attend the induction day at her new 6th Form as its on day 14 of quarantine.....apparently "all her friends" are ignoring quarantine.....

hellooooooooooo · 30/08/2020 16:04

They check the firms electronically so don't rely on the fact they weren't looked at in person.

Decentsalnotime · 30/08/2020 16:11

Bloody hell
We don’t live in a nazi state

The government sets a rule Not a law

A rule which impedes free movement and is restrictive and would be very costly to monitor

The gov Implements a system of random enquiries and follow ups but the given the expense and admin burden of a very closely monitored system, takes the view that majority will abide and minority won’t but the balance is financially justified.

@myfriendflicka9

I would urge you to reconsider
Common sense
Day 14.
A very big day for your daughter after a tumultuous time.
I would definitely

Our friends had it happen and they aren't the type to make stuff up. But then I didn't push for details so who knows!
PinkPiranha11 · 30/08/2020 16:35

@myfriendflicka9 gosh your (almost adult) child is right to be mightily pissed off at you. She must be 16, surely she can decide.

fartyface · 30/08/2020 16:44

Just to be clear if you have filled in th he form electronically (does everyone have y. if do this?), then even if border force don't check it, it will still be in the database that phe look at. Border force are not adding eforms to a database at the border.

Border force not looking at it is neither here nor there. They pretty much know you came from abroad..

PinkPiranha11 · 30/08/2020 16:57

@fartyface yes as far as I know everyone returning Into the UK from anywhere abroad has to fill a form in online. They are logged online in a date as some where. It’s the follow up part afterwards on those who are coming from quarantine countries that appears to be severely lacking.

myfriendflicka9 · 30/08/2020 17:04

@PinkPiranha11 and @Decentsalnotime I am so tempted to just let her go....I think the quarantine is ridiculous and the only reason I’m complying is I’m one of those people that hates breaking rules and worries about the consequences....

StatisticalSense · 30/08/2020 17:07

Do we also need to have police checking that you're not murdering people? Or maybe we should have guards at supermarkets randomly stopping customers to make sure they haven't stolen anything?
People should be following the law on quarantining because of the implications as to the spread of Covid and it being the law and not only because of the prospect of a fine.

Noextremes2017 · 30/08/2020 17:11

Good to know the police are being deployed on pointless exercises as usual. Beats trying to solve a serious crime I suppose.

In your situation I would worry more about the impact on my daughter

Day 4 of the quarantine? Point blank no

Day 14? Yes

PinkPiranha11 · 30/08/2020 17:33

Let her go @myfriendflicka9. Things like that are so important at that age, feeling “left out” in some way is the worst thing when you are 16. You’d know if she had Covid symptoms by day 14. Wish I was starting sixth form again, good times!!!

Freetodowhatiwant · 30/08/2020 18:27

I would definitely let the teenager go to the induction day on Day 14. I think our school starts day 14 too.

Thanks PinkPiranha yes I am really tempted to go for the walk. The trouble is the kids are now a bit against it as is DH. DH is not living with us (separated) but is bringing us food everyday in our rented basement flat. I almost feel like I've been kidnapped and held hostage, albeit by a generous kidnapper who brings nice food.

Freetodowhatiwant · 30/08/2020 18:28

I found this - what do they mean referred? By whom? Is this neighbours coming over all vigilante?

TheSeedsOfADream · 30/08/2020 19:05

Here in Italy they are doing checks on those coming in from Croatia, Malta, Spain and Greece. My friend arrived back on the Monday and on the Tuesday someone from the local health authority came round.

Ellsbells12 · 30/08/2020 20:55

It is random they call and also check your gps on phone

StealthPolarBear · 30/08/2020 21:05

The health protection aspects are going straight into a new organisation, the national institute for health protection.

StealthPolarBear · 30/08/2020 21:06

Agh I am convinced I did that in reply to the "public health England being disbanded" comment

RunningNinja79 · 30/08/2020 21:20

I'm currently in France and due home next week so will find out soon. Totally prepared for quarantine though and will.
