I'm going to bed, under my weighted blanket. I'm hoping to sleep all night and feel better in the morning. Fuck this shit. I'm tired of worrying, tired of family life. Tired of it all.

I'm with you on this Flowers I've never felt so ill or anxious in the 15 years I've suffered. I hope you are feeling a little bit better now. Its hard going! I'd love to just hibernate until it's all over.

Bluewavescrashing · 02/09/2020 21:41

I'm a bit better today thanks. Had a few pleasant distractions, met up with a friend, went to a cafe so no masks. I'm a bit up and down really.

Bluewavescrashing · 02/09/2020 21:44

@yarncakes do you have any medication for your anxiety? Mine is at the highest dose possible. It does keep me functioning but also a bit numb and distant.

I don't think the change in weather is helping much either. Sunshine is one thing, picnics etc, but grey drizzle can do one. There's hardly anything for kids to do indoors around here.

OP posts:
TheresGotToBeMoreToLife · 02/09/2020 22:17

What specifically is making you anxious?

ChanceEncounter · 02/09/2020 22:20

I was just saying I am buying full on wet weather gear this year as I am NOT staying in in the bad weather, I'll not cope if we do.

Hope your sleep is restful Flowers

TheGreatWave · 02/09/2020 22:27

Good to hear that you managed to meet a friend etc today.

I sort of understand where you are coming from - it is all consuming at the moment. In a way I feel worse then I did when bang in the middle of lockdown, this half life seems so much more difficult.

One day at a time is all I can do.

Bluewavescrashing · 03/09/2020 02:55

There's a weird atmosphere in the air. I just feel flat.

OP posts:
Gingerkittykat · 03/09/2020 03:29

I understand, I'm sick of it too. I hate masks and hand gel and acting like everyone is a possible infection risk.

I suppose the only way to get through it is to remind yourself it won't last forever, even though it feels like it is never-ending.

ChanceEncounter · 03/09/2020 06:05

I think new school term, normally quite an exciting time, is different this year.

I agree there is a strange atmosphere.

I think we are not where we hoped we'd be now when we started out in March.

The whole thing is becoming unbearable. It’s now bordering on mass hysteria, paranoia and obsession. I feel a real sense of unhealthy socially control I never thought I would see in the UK.

I went for an interview yesterday at a council building. The total obsession with Covid was utterly ridiculous. I think people are very frightened for their jobs and doing what managers tell them. It felt just awful- the atmosphere was dreadful with workers assuming the public are infectious. We are just “ Covid safe” I was told - only 10 people allowed in that day into this large sprawling building I was in. We have no plans to return to face to face learning I was told. Why? There was no real explanation or justification for it. Just the ‘threat’ of Covid. Unreal.

I am wondering just how long society is going to keep this up- in 5 years time will we still have local or national lockdowns? If there’s no vaccine, will we stay in this limbo state of paralysis? People have become increasingly anxious over the years because of social media and it’s feeding into Covid paranoia. It’s becoming dystopian and dysfunctional.

There seems to be no gvt guidance, Johnson is a big teddy bear who just isn’t leading the country effectively and there’s not even a weekly public conference to say how we are moving forward. Why not? The many last minute policy U turns make for a very wobbly looking approach by ministers which as eroded public confidence.I am shocked at how obsessed some people are with Covid. Yes in some people it’s a dangerous virus but the damage to our lives is becoming untenable. I am trying to hide from it all and just go out for an occasional coffee.

My DH works in London and many in his company are refusing to return- it’s nicer and cheaper for them to stay at home. There just seems to no end to all and you can’t move for social distancing messages, masks, hand washing and hysterical people screaming “Covid Covid Covid” at me all day. Thousands of people die every year from normal pneumonia, cancer, heart attack, dementia, car accidents and other diseases - yet even young teachers at very low risk are “ “frightened” I read in news yesterday.

Public bodies such as the NHS, teaching unions and councils are seemingly fuelling the fear enormously in my opinion. It is appalling to see how they are quite prepared to just not help those in need or get back to work help the economy going. Dr’s still not seeing patients for example or those requiring essential treatments for cancer etc what a complete disgrace. If we carry on like this, people will implode and society will reach breaking point.

I don’t see the gvt doing anything to stop all this insanity or try to return to social cohesion. Their handling of the situation has been shambolic overall. I want to know who is really behind peddling the high levels of control and fear we are experiencing.

I feel like I’m in 1984 where the Policy of Fear is good. I have complied to all rules so far but seeing people in the train not wearing masks made me want to rip mine off and say “ Enough”!

I think this sounds rather hysterical! The truth is Covid is neither everywhere nor over.

I have never heard anyone screaming Covid Covid Covid.

But of course the council will be being cautious. They are privy to information you have not seen for starters.

I understand it has gone on a long time and it is miserable but we have to try to just stay calm and stick to reality.

Pikachubaby · 03/09/2020 07:18

The problem is the large civil service

Sorry if it offends anyone but the large majority are a bit work shy, our local council only work 10-4pm as it is, and now they are mostly at home, it suits them, they want to stay.

As their jobs are not dependent on profit or turnover, they can stay at home forever. Why not, no impetus to get back.

Similar for Unis, lots already decided not to go back at all for 2020/2021

They decided this already way back in April

Schools were different as they are about childcare and needed to open again so people with industry jobs could go back

But honestly, this country is making itself financially/emotionally sick and I blame the bureaucrats

This is silly, it doesn't offend me, I just think you are in denial of the facts that we do know (I accept there is much more to learn).

The only way you can think universities should return to mass in-person lectures is if you don't believe Covid is real. The experience of universities in the US has shown how quickly it spreads on campus.

Similarly return to offices. This is a key driver of rising cases in France.

Tomatoesneedtoripen · 03/09/2020 07:33

But look at the cases abroad,
and ok so far we have lower hospital admissions at the moment but if we follow France, who knows what.
of course it is depressing, particularly in September, but September is always a funny time of year. no more summer, SAD

Tomatoesneedtoripen · 03/09/2020 07:34

and actually the hospitals are seeing patients

KatherineJaneway · 03/09/2020 07:34

minnieok · 03/09/2020 07:35

We said this last night. Actually we pretty much are living a normal life now but still fed up particularly for my musician friends

Pikachubaby · 03/09/2020 07:43

@ChanceEncounter they already decided in April that they would not open at all

Fair enough to offer limited lectures and classes, but surely some real teaching/lecturing/lab work could be offered?

I work with people at a large Uni where they already know they will not come in at all this academic year

To me that is just too much of an overreaction

Thank you. This is exactly what I've been saying to people too, only not so eloquently. 👏👏👏

I am beyond baffled by the level of Covid hysteria and rising fear that appears to exist.

I've no huge problem wearing a mask, although I'm yet to be convinced of its effectiveness. I'm beyond happy to see hospital admissions and Covid related deaths way down.

I genuinely now do not understand the terror?

picklemewalnuts · 03/09/2020 08:29

"I'm beyond happy to see hospital admissions and Covid related deaths way down. "

So with all the current limitations, no school/Uni/church/theatre/, limited mixing in hospital the numbers are down. There are very few 'wild' cases, so with limited interaction we aren't sharing it around.

And yet it's still getting around, just a bit. Imagine how it would spread if we just went back to life as usual?

picklemewalnuts · 03/09/2020 08:30

And as for local government being lazy, the ones I've dealt with have been hugely busy.

userxx · 03/09/2020 08:36

If they are just as productive, why shouldn't they stay wfh.

Because they're not. I've been office based throughout this shit storm dealing with people WFH and I can't tell you how fucking frustrating it's been. Simple tasks take an age, it's painful.

ExmoorPony · 03/09/2020 08:46

Even when the pandemic is over, many many people are still going to obsess over masks, social distancing etc. It's going to take a generation or more for the effects of this covid shitshow to fadeSad

Pixel7777 · 03/09/2020 08:58

Chance encounter what are you on about the council knowing things you don't? I'm sorry but that sounds a wee bit paranoid..
