Am I the only teacher who is looking forward to going back next week?

I know there are risks and it is going to be weird but I am really looking forward to seeing my classes and colleagues again. I’ve also seen the impact that the disruption of education/life has had on them and am happy to be able to restore some normality/fun/distraction into what for most young people has been a pretty traumatic time. Feel like I’m alone in this. Am I?

No, you’re not the only one. I am very much looking forward to getting back. I believe school will be as normal as possible as we have a very sensible Head.

I shielded for 12 weeks but I am not worried in the slightest about the minimal risk now. My kids are in the same school as me and they are keen to get back and have no anxiety at all.

TheSeedsOfADream · 27/08/2020 21:30

I can't wait and neither can the kids I've been in contact with and their parents.

Me! I'm so excited to see the students, I've really missed them.

Pinkflipflop85 · 27/08/2020 21:31

I'm looking forward to being back in class.

LizzyD78 · 27/08/2020 21:32

Thank goodness. I was starting to feel weird. Maybe I should spend less time on Mumsnet!!

Thank you, all of you Flowers

Me too, I am so very excited. I am type 1 diabetic and am literally not concerned at all. I am close friends with several teachers and none are worried. I worked throughout as well and was back in June with my year 1s.

Not a teacher, but this post has made my evening!

So lovely to know that the children will be going back to such enthusiastic caring teachersSmile

VashtaNerada · 27/08/2020 21:53

I’m excited! Loved teaching a bubble in summer term and ready to start the new school year. I’ve had Covid already though which is probably making me feel more relaxed than I might otherwise. I’ve got lots of sympathy for teachers who are anxious, particularly if they have other risk factors or have vulnerable people in their family. I really hope it goes smoothly and schools are safe.

Byallmeans · 27/08/2020 21:55

No I don’t think you are. I spoke to my dd kindergarten teacher today on the phone and she was a big bag of happiness and excitement which really put my mind at rest. It’s the first time dd will be going and I was worried about dd going in with out having any settling in days. We’ve got a plan A and a plan B for dd if it all goes tits up Grin We had a class zoom meeting a couple of weeks ago where she introduced herself and all the children to each other and I think I’m a bit star stuck 😁

But she was lovely and I really really appreciated it and her.

cantkeepawayforever · 27/08/2020 22:07

I am really looking forward to being back in school.

I am also concerned that the arrangements for return are not safe,.

It is entirely possible to BOTH be excited and happy about returning to the best bit of the job - teaching children - AND worried about the risk of increased COVID infections it brings. They're not mutually exclusive positions.

goingtokickthisweight · 27/08/2020 22:07

I'm really looking forward to been back I've missed them all

ineedaholidaynow · 27/08/2020 22:10

Even if teachers are concerned I am sure they won't let parents and children know. Teachers are using this forum to discuss their concerns

Barbie222 · 27/08/2020 22:11

It always feels exciting to see my classroom ready and think of the first day, but there's definitely an undercurrent of "exactly what might happen to my community here?" and I don't think it's sensible to ignore that either. Things changed so very fast in March and we quickly had a world we wouldn't have believed possible. It's easier to block things out than let things in sometimes.

As @cantkeepawayforever said they're not exclusive positions. I hope my parents only see the smiles though.

IWantToBeAFairy · 27/08/2020 22:16

I'm not a teacher but as a parent this is so lovely to read Smile

tinytemper66 · 27/08/2020 22:17

No...I am looking forward to it too!

PinkFondantFancy · 27/08/2020 22:18

Thank you Flowers I'm so happy to hear that there's teachers as excited about going back to school as my children!

RealityExistsInTheHumanMind · 27/08/2020 22:20

I pity the poor kids if you are.

That.

Valenciaoranges · 27/08/2020 22:54

Really looking forward to seeing the kids again and hearing all their stories etc. My school has lots in place to support everyone.

Wholeholes · 27/08/2020 23:00

I can’t wait! Looking forward to seeing my new class and my colleagues and hopefully losing all the lockdown weight I’ve put on Grin.

I liked being back in June but it wasn’t the same with tiny bubbles and not being allowed to see other teachers.

I still feel quite traumatised from the last couple of weeks we were open in March when everything fell apart so I’m hoping a new start will help me put that behind me.

macaroniinapot · 27/08/2020 23:47

Thank you Thanks

I suspect you make up the majority in real life.

Absolutely. There’s this perception that if you Rosie any kind of concern that this isn’t the best way to keep schools open long term you are a lazy winger who wants schools shut because you don’t want to go back. No. I like teaching. I’d like to continue to do it all year. I just think unless there’s some better management I’ll be stuck trying to do it from home again in short order. In fact, those of us who really like it are most likely to question the ridiculous organisation (or lack thereof).
