Do we need public service programmes on tv?

I'm usually totally against nannying people but do you think it would be a good idea to have short programmes on tv encouraging people to behave responsibly?
First on the list should be

If two people are on a pavement walking towards a single person, the couple should fall into single file to allow the other person to pass.
I've lost count of the number of times I've been forced off the pavement and into traffic because couples don't practice this and I don't want to get too close.

I dont want to live in a world with instructions on how to use a pavement

You are more at risk from walking into on coming traffic than by passing someone outdoors on a pavement

Pelleas · 27/08/2020 12:34

I doubt people would take much notice of them - like adverts, they'd either use that spot to make a cup of tea or fast-forward them.

Completely agree with you about being forced off the pavement but I think that's due to people being self-centred and mannerless, not because they don't know it's dangerous to force someone in front of traffic.

Augustbreeze · 27/08/2020 12:38

Do you mean about Covid stuff or general stuff?

likeamillpond · 27/08/2020 12:40

I've even tried stopping dead in front of them a d they STILL won't move one behind the other!
Are people really that self absorbed or stupid or what?

I think it would be useful to have short easy to understand announcements about current Covid rules. Virtually everyone I talk to seems to interpret them differently (or plain not know what they are).

likeamillpond · 27/08/2020 12:42

Agust, covid stuff.
Different behaviours and practices that have arisen because of covid.
New ettiquette?

Jrobhatch29 · 27/08/2020 12:44

I doubt people are actually forcing you into a road. People have always left room for others to get past... We didn't suddenly start taking up whole pavements due to covid. But you don't perceive it as enough room and would rather take your chances on the road.

Exactly.

People who have never cycled much pre covid are now cycling and majorly peeling off motorists.
There could be advice aimed at them as well.

Malteserdiet · 27/08/2020 12:50

Omg does nobody see that this is what they want????? Governments currently have more control over our day to day lives than maybe ever before and you are actively suggesting they have more. No, no and again no!

likeamillpond · 27/08/2020 12:50

Jobhatxh, that was pre covid.
It's impossible to socially distance on a pavement/walkway if people don't follow rules and basic good manners

So you would rather walk on a road with traffic than pass someone on a pavement for half a second where the risk otlf transmission is minute? Being ran over is preferable? Utterly bonkers. I am really careful what I do but that is ridiculous. Like the people who would rather risk falling down the stairs than hold a sodding railing
Jrobhatch29 · 27/08/2020 12:53

I agree it is rude but it wouldn't force me into traffic. Honestly we've gone mad

InDeoEstMeaFiducia · 27/08/2020 12:56

NO. Sick of all these patronising fucking adverts on TV.

Layladylay234 · 27/08/2020 12:57

Jesus, is this real or a joke?

No, it really isn't. Some people would rather get hit by a car due to perceived risk they will catch fucking covid by passing someone on a pavement outside. There was a similar one a week or so ago featuring an OP who'd rather fall down stairs than use a handrail due to potential for catching fucking covid from it. You'd think Ebola was rife.
ThatDamnScientist · 27/08/2020 13:02

I see where you are coming from but if they are ignorant enough to walk single file and force others to walk on the road then no amount of PSA will fix that. You can't fix stupid.

likeamillpond · 27/08/2020 13:03

Index don't be ridiculous.
Obviously I wouldn't step in front of a bloody car.
If you want to make fun of people trying to act responsibly, go ahead.

They don't care! And no amount of pedantic messages will change that. It happens all the time. Move on with your life.
PatriciaHolm · 27/08/2020 13:08

hmmmm like some of these, OP? ;-)

What is tv? Confused

FluffyKittensinabasket · 27/08/2020 13:38

No thanks, had enough of being told what to do.

“Work, consume, obey!”

PumbaasCucumbas · 27/08/2020 21:59

Anyone else noticed that all the radio Covid government things have people with really heavy regional accents.... also the tv ad about going back to the shops etc had no masks in the ad at all?

Maybe a 10 minute weekly update after the news or something? Just to remind us where we’re at with it all and if any rule changes (u-turns) since last week.

Remmy123 · 27/08/2020 22:04

Don't be so ridiculous - chances of you catching COVID walking past someone on a pavement are ... 0!!!

We do not want to live in a regimented society akin to the bloody Handmades Tale!!!
