They’ve been busy recently...

#UPDATE | Officers attended a property in #Swinton where 3 families were celebrating a child's birthday in a private garden. The homeowner has been issued with a fixed penalty notice.

Draconian or justified?

If it broke the lockdown rules, then it's justified. Why would the parent ruin a child birthday party by organising it outside the rules of a lockdown area.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 23/08/2020 11:08

Good, I am glad to see it’s being enforced. The rules are there for a reason.

If people report then good on them as they are looking out for others. No different than reporting any other rule breaking.

FinnyStory · 23/08/2020 11:11

Of course it's possible to get the virus in a oub or in school but the evidence to date suggests it's being transmitted more on private homes, especially in extended family groups, where people do, naturally, behave differently to they would in a pub or a school.

Derbygerbil · 23/08/2020 11:39

@bingbong1970

It’s because there are too many people with your mindset that we could never have adopted a Sweden-like approach in this country, which is a massive shame.

islockdownoveryet · 23/08/2020 11:55

It does make me laugh people banging on about the rules .
I suppose none of you have ever gone over the speed limit or drooped litter or parked on a double yellow line just for a minute because those are the rules you know .
If everyone followed the rules we would have no crime and the prisons would be empty.
Very narrow minded on here in fact a lot of people are narrow minded at the minute as if Covid trumps everything because that's the rules .

ineedaholidaynow · 23/08/2020 11:59

I wonder how many people who have school aged children and who are being free and easy with the rules at the moment will be complaining when their schools close, or they have to keep taking 2 weeks off work to be at home when their child is self isolating as the school 'bubble' has burst.

Uhoh2020 · 23/08/2020 12:00

@Dohorseseatapples

The whole of Greater Manchester is restricted at the moment.

The rules are clear.

The whole of GM isn't under restrictions some areas were removed from it last week
Derbygerbil · 23/08/2020 12:02

Yes, I’ve broken many rules in my time, but if I got a speeding ticket for driving at 85mph down a motorway or a parking ticket for being 30 minutes over the time I’d paid for, no one would be up in arms saying how awful it was that I was being held to account for breaking them! There are no threads that start: “I got a £100 fine for not picking up my dog poo. Why can’t the Police just leave me alone and let my dog poo in peace! Rules are meant to be broken after all.” Hmm

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 23/08/2020 12:07

@Uhoh2020 I wasn't aware any Greater Manchester areas had had restrictions removed and I can't find anything about that. Can you remember where you saw that and send me a link please? I know people who are cancelling holidays in Scotland as people from restricted areas aren't allowed to travel there.

Hoppinggreen · 23/08/2020 12:35

Are the rules daft? Yes they are. I cant visit my Mum but if we lived a 10 minute drive from here (and so did she) then I could. My friend is moving house 30 minutes away this weekend, the new regional lockdown rules no longer apply to her. I can go to the pub and sit 2 metres from complete strangers but not 2 metres from my Mum in her garden. It makes no sense at all
BUT just because I dont agree with a rule it doesnt mean I should expect no consequences if I break it. If I speed I could get fined, if I park on double yellow lines I could get a ticket, if I take my Dc out of school for a holiday I could get a fine etc.
If you dont think you should follow rules then thats your business but dont complain if The Police take action against you

And yet schools will remain open during a local lockdown, is that correct? If so good luck explaining to people they can't mix a few households when one child is mixing with at least 30 households a day. Over 300 for a secondary aged school child.

Going into local shops a couple of weeks ago I saw almost every other person in a mask. Buying school shoes yesterday, far less people were bothering anymore and although I and my older child wore ours, I don't blame others for not seeing the point anymore.

Thank you. So all are still restricted right now. Sadly those being released not the areas which will save my friends' Scottish trips.

Yeah, course people who report are doing it for the good of others. Pull the other one.
Flaxmeadow · 23/08/2020 13:03

I think people from local lockdown areas can still travel to other areas within certain guidelines. I could be wrong though

Flaxmeadow · 23/08/2020 13:20

It isn't just Greater Manchester where the police are cracking down.

This is the West Midlands and West Yorkshire. Some of these gatherings are insane, and the police were attacked when they tried to break them up

Says from Friday the organisers of these type of large gatherings could be fined £10,000. Good!

Figgygal · 23/08/2020 13:22

Well they should have had more sense sorry if the kid was upset but parents chose to carry on regardless

I’m not even planning October and December bday parties for my two this year - too much hassle

GabriellaMontez · 23/08/2020 13:29

Puzzling. It's hard to get through to the police normally to report a crime or get an incident number.

A local fb page describes how people have tried to report their neighbours but not had a response.

But GMP claim to have attended several incidents yesterday alone.

Yes, most other areas but not Scotland!
annabel85 · 23/08/2020 13:36

The problem is not what they break up but what they don't. They've let people in Manchester hold raves for months and too cowardly to do anything about it. Only last week the mass gatherings on Pakistan day there were allowed to go ahead with no social distancing being practiced.

I'm sick of the cowardice of the police. Easy to bully the little people who'll comply.

islockdownoveryet · 23/08/2020 13:41

Good point but all those that don't get caught . I was just making the point that people bleating about 'the rules' while polishing their halo but yesterday they probably went over the speed limit. We are all human but you make a good point back .
I suppose the fact that the normal working class family in a high crime area gets fined but a MP advisor can drive with his family in the high of lockdown with Covid symptoms and that's ok not even a fine from the police even BJ said it was ok .
We have to ask ourselves is it really that dangerous to mix households when somebody liked that thinks it ok .
I'm not sure how we can actually believe 'the rules' .

Flaxmeadow · 23/08/2020 13:42

Yes, most other areas but not Scotland!

Has Scotland banned people visiting from local lockdown areas in England?

acatcalledjohn · 23/08/2020 14:34

Meanwhile in the US a mother and her children are kicked off a JetBlue flight because her 2YO refused to wear a mask.

We have lost all sight of what is normal.

Big parties? Stop them. Large gatherings? Stop them. Pubs/restaurants not enforcing distancing? Close them.

A three family garden birthday? For the love of all that is holy. For all you know these are families/friends that have been living as a bubble for the last few weeks/months.

annabel85 · 23/08/2020 14:39

They’ll just do it in their own homes, so I can understand the reluctance to come down too hard on pubs as at least there is a degree of control in place

What will it take for people in this country to behave themselves and follow a few rules? It's absolutely shameful. Manchester area seems particularly unruly.

ineedaholidaynow · 23/08/2020 14:40

3 households shouldn’t be making a bubble
