Are cases going up in Scotland since schools have reopened?

Wondering how things are going since schools have opened there. I’m assuming we’ll have similar issues when dc are back in England. I know there was the school with 3 cases but has there been anything else?

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 22/08/2020 18:55

and I should know what happens what with having 2 children back at school in Scotland

dementedpixie · 22/08/2020 18:56

you still haven't told us about the 4 closed schools either

Morfin · 22/08/2020 18:58

Actually it's posts like yours which is why I waste my time keeping schools high on the MN topics. I can't believe the amount of people who have swallowed government propaganda. Because that's what it is. It's lies.

Shitfuckoh · 22/08/2020 18:59

@Clive222 I know some schools (In England) were hoping to do that for years 7 and 8 but that won't work for when they're in sets and I'm not sure any schools are going for COVID compliant! Confused

I'm confused?
CaptainMerica · 22/08/2020 19:01

Yep - that is definitely wrong.

I believe the 4 schools thing though. One in Aberdeen closed for a day for cleaning on Friday. There is one in peterhead because all the staff were self isolating. The special needs school in Dundee. Was there a Glasgow school closed for cleaning for a few days?

InDeoEstMeaFiducia · 22/08/2020 19:04

Which 4 schools?

Clive222 · 22/08/2020 19:05

@dementedpixie

Not at secondary school they don't. They move classrooms for different subjects and to different areas at lunch and break time
If the school is not COVID compliant you need to report them to the police
dementedpixie · 22/08/2020 19:06

I believe 1 school is closed for an unknown amount of time and a few have closed for a short time for cleaning. Maybe some councils are moving teachers rather than students but its not happening in my local authority

Morfin · 22/08/2020 19:06

Covid compliant, you are evidently a troll, not the usual type I must admit. Not sure that you are a tory boy sent into lie to parents, but equally don't know why you are peddling lies.

dementedpixie · 22/08/2020 19:08

Yeah right, ill contact the police Hmm

Yup.
onitlikeacarbonnet · 22/08/2020 19:09

One Edinburgh secondary school has introduced compulsory face coverings from Monday 8am. Saw the announcement on SM today.
I think this first week and a half will have hit home to school management how ridiculous it is to expect teenagers to socially distance. Nevermind younger children or those with SN. I have friends in education who are saying schools are not safe.
BoJo will very soon blame “young people” or teachers, or Nicola Sturgeon for the inevitable spike. Bet he’s rubbing his hands that our kids get to be the next line of cannon fodder after culling a significant number of drains on the state already, in the form of care home residents.

*I don't really know about walking the dog. I'm assuming not based on what the NHS website states:
do not go to work, school or public places – work from home if you can

do not go on public transport or use taxis

do not go out to get food and medicine – order it online or by phone, or ask someone to bring it to your home

do not have visitors in your home, including friends and family – except for people providing essential care

do not go out to exercise – exercise at home or in your garden, if you have one.*

Fucking unbelievable! A great deal of Scotland's geography is rural. There are quite a few areas that do not have supermarkets nearby or that do delivery. Many of these are also extremely deprived areas where you have quite a few living without much in the way of support or who cannot afford to run a car, who have patchy internet service, who gets charged extra as 'Highlands and Islands surcharge' or even cannot get some things delivered because 'Does not deliver to Highlands or islands'. The areas are also heavily reliant on zero hours jobs as employment so no pay for sitting at home.

And, ironically, being rural, your chances of disseminating the virus whilst exercising outside are slim to none.

Of course, in cities, particularly Glasgow and Edinburgh, you have a large percentage of people living in flats with no garden space. House arrest for youse for just being in breathing space with someone who knows someone who tested positive for Covid.

Fucking hell. They've truly lost the fucking plot here. Sick to the back fucking teeth of this level of overreaction.

Only a matter of time till the writing's on the wall for this goal of covid elimination when the money from Westminster for furlough stops and the real shitshow of redundancies begins.

Think it's too early to tell if schools are spreading covid.

The rise in cases - well quite a big number of cases this week relate to a chicken factory.

My son is now self isolating for another week. Was at football training he came into contact with a child who has since tested positive. But will have an impact at school too I guess.

It can't be the chicken factory that is causing the spike, remember Matt Hancock has just reassured us that you can't catch covid at work.
Flagsfiend · 22/08/2020 19:20

Students don't have to stay in one room to be covid compliant. It suggests this may be possible for KS3 (y7-9) but says it is more important to offer the full curriculum. It says for older years students are likely to need to move for options and tier of entry, again curriculum offer is more important. It says in these cases schools should use year group bubbles.

Regardless, students will need to leave the room for break, lunch and to use the toilet (and where hand wash facilities are). Many secondary classrooms do not have a direct exit to the outside so students will be in corridors.

Morfin · 22/08/2020 19:26

@Shitfuckoh sorry it was a reply to Clive claiming that all school children will enter through the fire exit and stay all day in the classroom. If this was the case I wouldn't be so concerned. It's lies, senior schools are in multi floor blocks, they have GCSE choices so are spread over the full year. They are set for subjects. They move into unventilated rooms where 33 young people (not children, gone through puberty young people) were sat five minutes before. They are squashed into corridors, there is no SD. They have teachers that teach across every year group, in classes that were designed for less people. There is limited hand washing due to no sinks.

Infullbloom · 22/08/2020 19:28

Think it's too early to tell if schools are spreading covid.

Of course it is. Schools have only been back a week, not long enough for anyone with a positive test to have contacted the virus, developed symptoms and had a positive test. Pupils currently testing positive will have caught the virus in the community. I'm going to guess all the teachers aren't self isolating and are also going about their business in the community and many will live with people who are out and about at work etc as will the children but of course the kids will get the blameHmm
I work out of the home and nearly all the adults I see are not bothering with social distancing or masks.

Shitfuckoh · 22/08/2020 19:33

@InDeoEstMeaFiducia I understand the public trasport one. Understand the work and school one alhough Matt Hancock reckons you can't catch it at work and apparently schools are safe.(I do think something needs to be done regarding financially supporting people who need to isolate)

I do not understand the do not leave home to exercise bit though, not at all.

It takes between 2 and 14 days after contracting the virus to show symptoms, so it could be begining to show.

Yeah, that's draconian. Even stricter than when we were in lockdown at the height of it all. Ridiculous. 'In your garden'. Fucking breathtaking arrogance and outright punishing for the poor who are more likely to be in flats with no garden space (and quite a few in Edinburgh and Glasgow in general).

Morfin · 22/08/2020 19:53

Further proof that the government have no idea about how the majority live.

Exactly! Or give a toss. Clueless and arrogant.

How can they claim.its community transmission every time. Cases have been increasing in the same school.
