Do I have to cancel my holiday?

KingaRoo · 21/08/2020 08:10

I had a sore throat on Saturday and was told by the ZOE app to get a test. Ordered it on Sat, arrived Sunday so had to do the test on Monday. It's still not back. I just called 119 and they are going to chase my results and get back to me by the end of the day.

The problem is, I'm meant to be going on holiday (UK) tomorrow. Its in a friend's self-catering property next to their house but the plan was to have meals etc with them. My family would be heartbroken if we had to cancel. We're going to have to aren't we?

I am completely better and think its really unlikely it was covid as we have only left the house for exercise. Get shopping etc delivered and are really careful about deliveries/hygiene etc.

So fed up with the testing system that they can't get their act together and have now ruined the only holiday we would have had this year.

A sore throat is not on the list of symptoms that should lead to self-isolation.

Do you have a raised temperature, a new continuous cough or loss of taste &/or smell? If no, you're fine to go on your holiday.

Zoe is performing research with your test.

Have a lovely holiday!

IcyApril · 21/08/2020 08:17

Can you get to a drive through centre this morning? My results from there came back within 13 hours by text.

ravensoaponarope · 21/08/2020 08:42

No, because a sore throat isn't on the list of symptoms that require self isolation or testing.

KingaRoo · 21/08/2020 09:09

Thanks. I also had a feeling of pressure on my chest and a headache, so I assume it was the collection of symptoms that meant I had to get a test. The headache was probably me not drinking enough water!

I can't book another test at a drive through, I have to first wait for 119 to chase up my results.

Relieved that I may be OK to go after all.

The Zoe app isn’t asking you to test because you might have Covid though - as pp said they’re researching on the links between symptoms and positive tests. I was asked to take a test because I had 1 episode of diarrhoea- no other symptoms.

I would definitely go

KingaRoo · 21/08/2020 09:32

Oh thank you, such a relief. I tend to overthink these things and want to make sure I follow the rules.

OP posts:
KingaRoo · 21/08/2020 09:32

So @AishaBed did you have to isolate until you got your test result?

OP posts:
Youngatheart00 · 21/08/2020 09:34

If it’s in this country could you travel a little later, once you’ve got your result?

TheFaerieQueene · 21/08/2020 09:36

Why not wait another day for the result and then go?

Yetiyoga · 21/08/2020 09:44

I had a test through the zoe app a while back, i didn't self isolate because they were only testing me because I had reported hay-fever. I have been offered one yesterday because I reported a headache on Weds. I'm debating whether to go for one today.

AishaBed · 21/08/2020 10:07

Nope I didn’t self isolate - it never even occurred to me to. Maybe I would have done if I had had more symptoms?

KingaRoo · 21/08/2020 10:18

I have to wait for them to get back to me before i can book another test. So even if I could do a drive through test tomorrow they said its likely to be Monday before I get any results. We're meant to be coming home on Weds!

This is why I would always opt for drive in (if possible) I realise not everyone has a car.
I've heard of so many stories about delays etc... from home testing kits!

KingaRoo · 21/08/2020 10:43

I wish I had but I am very busy wfh with two DC and it would have been a 2 hour round trip.

I have also done a test through Zoe app for research - I reported a headache and sore throat (which I assumed were time of the month related) and got a negative result 33 hrs later. I have also just been requested to take another test (headache again, time of month related I think), neither time have I been asked to self isolate as it’s research related. Interestingly they have also now opened it up to those in my household whereas previously they requested just I test, I guess it’s because there’s so much exceS testing capacity now.

Yetiyoga · 21/08/2020 11:24

@lurker101 yes I noticed that too! I decided to book one for today because of headache zoe app thing. Going in an hour.

Badbadbunny · 21/08/2020 11:28

Either delay leaving for a day, or go and be prepared to come straight back if the result comes back positive (self isolating for the first day there until you know).

kimlo · 21/08/2020 11:34

I was asked to have a test by the app and sent it on monday, I haven't had any results either. I haven't been self isolating because I don't have any of the symptoms.

I would go if I obly had a sore throat.

Abraid2 · 21/08/2020 11:35

Zoe asked me to test too as I had one day of snuffles. I have tried to order an at-home test as we are supposed to be on a staycation this week, going out for daytrips and relaxing, but the link just keeps telling me to go to the nearest drive-through centre, which is in a town a 30-mile round trip away on the Covid'watch' list. Er, no thanks. Happy to be tested at home, but for some reason we just can't seem to get the tests sent here. My son tried a few weeks ago too.

DoubleDeckerBusRideLover · 21/08/2020 11:49

The Zoe app keeps asking me to do tests. I did one but did not self-isolate as I did not have the symptoms required.

wintertravel1980 · 21/08/2020 11:57

I would definitely go on holidays as planned.

Zoe's requests for testing are similar to invitations to participate in the ONS surveillance program. I would both for the greater good of science/research but I would follow NHS advice and only isolate if I happen to display one of the main symptoms.

binkyblinky · 21/08/2020 11:58

If the test is negative, go!

daisybrown37 · 21/08/2020 12:01

I updated Zoe that I was not feeling well as I had a sore ankle and joint pain They asked me to test. I have not self isolated!

Whatever you do, for goodness sake tell your friends. They are entitled to have a view too. Don't potentially put them at risk without them knowing.

Yes indeed. However small the risk, your friends deserve to know that there is a risk. For all you know, they may be vulnerable with a condition you don't know about.
