iwishiwasonhol · 18/08/2020 19:48

yes ,but i will still go between thurs - sun when its less busy , would rather pay more with less people about

runningonemptyfulloflove · 18/08/2020 19:49

Me too! 😂🐷 I do wish it was just UK company's that offer it though, rather than big American chains and the likes.

Onlymeandthedognow · 18/08/2020 19:49

@knittingaddict

I work in hospitality, and whilst it’s lovely to be back in work after a long furlough, this scheme certainly brings out the “rude and entitled” customers! Some of our younger staff have been reduced to tears by people who yell at them, demand this and that and blame them if we are full to capacity and they can’t get a table.
How is this acceptable?
Be glad to see the end of this offers, if I’m honest!

CoffeeandCroissant · 18/08/2020 19:52

Interesting to see in which areas it has been most popular, eg Cornwall and where less so, eg Edinburgh, London, Bristol.

Although maybe lots of people from London are on holiday in Cornwall and obviously London and Edinburgh have far less overseas tourists than usual plus no Edinburgh festival this year...

No, it's a massive con.

thecatsatonthewall · 18/08/2020 20:05

Save the job of someone om min wage or save the job of an aircraft engineer paying 40% tax...... mmmmmmmm decisions! decisions!

Giving money that is sent overseas to large corporates like KFC or Green king (Hong Kong owned) is money wasted, i'd imagine that many who take adv of the £10 saving don't need it.

Concentrating on the wrong parts of the economy.

Brieminewine · 18/08/2020 20:08

No! We normally eat out three times a week but can’t bloody get in anywhere!

Pipandmum · 18/08/2020 20:14

Who do you think is footing the bill for this? Taxpayers. It seems to have worked near me, though August is a busy time anyway. I don't think it should be extended.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 18/08/2020 20:40

Extending it to the end of September would be good as I have a week off work and would definitely make use of it!

Ive eaten out 6 times on it and not one of them was a large Corporate, all local places. And nope I dont need the discount, but if it wasnt for the discount, I wouldnt have bothered.

No, it's a massive con.
How on earth do you come to that conclusion?
flowerycurtain · 18/08/2020 20:44

Yes please......

Says every farmer in the land working non stop during August!!

In reality no. I don't. I want that money finding schools and NHS waiting lists.

Feellikedancingyeah · 18/08/2020 20:46

Definitely ! Can't use this until kids back at school so missed out

byvirtue · 18/08/2020 20:52

Yes it’s the only government benefit I’ve ever been able to take advantage of. I certainly don’t go out mon-wed normally, but have thoroughly enjoyed my August meals out!

howlathebees · 18/08/2020 20:53

YANBU were always out now

Pimmsypimms · 18/08/2020 21:05

Yes it would be nice. We don't usually eat out as can't really afford to. This scheme has meant that we've been able to eat out as a family. I'm hoping that some places will offer more discounts when the scheme is over to keep more people (such as ourselves) eating out at affordable prices.

thecatsatonthewall · 18/08/2020 21:08

Bully for you! but many places are owned by foreign corporates and at a time when Bojo is supposed to be keen for us to all lose a few kilo's, just seems like just another PR stunt, along with all the others.

SpillTheTeaa · 18/08/2020 21:09

No because the government aren't really footing the bill it'll be is 🥴

SpillTheTeaa · 18/08/2020 21:09

AllsortsofAwkward · 18/08/2020 21:11

Who is being conned Confused

Even the most hard of thinking realise that we will end up paying through taxes, I can't think who you mean.

The4ks · 18/08/2020 21:14

No, work in a kitchen and it's been hell!

namechangeSkint · 18/08/2020 21:15

I doubt the government can afford to extend it, but I'd definitely use it if they do. It is encouraging me to go out, have used it quite a few times already (twice today 😯).

I'm surprised at some of the places not participating though; there's quite a few independents by us that have not signed up; thought it would have been a good opportunity for them 🤷‍♀️

SellFridges · 18/08/2020 21:15

It’s a stupid idea. People would be eating out more anyway this month as it’s peak holiday period, whether you’re travelling or not. I really object to tax payers money being spent in this way. We have eaten out over the last couple of weeks as we are on holiday but whenever we have received the discount we have tipped the server the same amount.
