Do you think holidays and travel will be 'normal' by next summer?

Obviously nobody can know for sure. But what your best guess?

I live abroad and am feeling a bit low today at not getting to see family and friends next summer either. Feeling homesick. We have a wedding to go to next year, really hoping it will all be fine, and a few other celebrations that had to be postponed from this year.

What do you think? Are you planning or booking travel plans for next year?

God knows, but I think a lot of people will hold off booking until last minute. Whether prices will go up or down is anyone's guess. There ma be less demand, but also less availability.

We aren’t, it’s too much bother, we will just go away here in our caravan and maybe use money we have saved by not going on a nice holiday abroad on a camper van

AnnaMariaDreams · 15/08/2020 21:04

Really hope so.
We have had 2 breaks in UK but it didn’t feel like a proper holiday and by next summer we’ll be really hoping for sunshine and a relaxing break.
We can’t stop the world forever.

Squigglypig2 · 15/08/2020 21:05

No one can know. I hope so regarding Covid-19 but we will have left the EU by then so travel to the EU will likely involve more paperwork and expense regardless.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 15/08/2020 21:15

I really hope so. Travel is my only hobby!

Jrobhatch29 · 15/08/2020 21:18

My partner wanted to book a holiday for next year today for something to look forward to. I said I would rather wait and book last min hol if things are okay

AbsentmindedWoman · 15/08/2020 21:26

There's so much I'd love to squeeze in next year now to make up for this year!

I hope things will be safe by then and we will all be able to move around at ease.

Annamaria why is it that people think ' holidays in the UK ' aren't proper holidays? Of course they are - you don't have to get on a plane to have a holiday you know

I agree with you that holidays in the country you live in are very much proper holidays. Of course they are!

At the same time, sometimes you want to go somewhere for things that you just don't get in your country of residence.

@AbsentmindedWoman OP I very much hope holidays are on for next year! We have a trip to Thailand, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur booked for beginning of next year (booked pre pandemic). We are child free (sadly) so the upside of our life is we head off travelling whenever we can.

AnnaMariaDreams · 15/08/2020 22:11

I don’t think it isn’t a proper holiday- it didn’t feel like one! It was nice but felt like a series of days out and was quite hard work.
A holiday to me is getting up, putting a bikini on and lying on a sun lounger watching DS swim in a lovely pool. You can’t do this in the UK easily- you can’t guarantee a week of sunny hot weather.
To me a holiday isn’t getting up, getting dressed in jeans and walking miles around zoos, NT places or whatever. Some people may really enjoy this sort of break- great for them! Each to their own.
Both breaks were nice and after lockdown we enjoyed it but I really hope to be able to go abroad next year.

manicinsomniac · 15/08/2020 22:25

I really don't think there's any way of knowing at the moment. This year could go either way. If we can get the vaccine working and disseminated I think there's a good chance we can get back to normal. If not, who knows.

I really hope so. Not least because I'd like the Olympics to go ahead.

blametheparents · 15/08/2020 22:26

TUI are reporting a jump in bookings for next summer of 145% - so some people at least are prepared to take a chance!

YerAWizardHarry · 15/08/2020 22:29

I hope so we've just booked my best friends hen party for May near Malaga..

NewNewt · 15/08/2020 22:30

semi, year after I think. And things will have changed permanently, some for the better (masks, clean hands, less people coughing and spluttering over you, table service, more space on planes etc)

sunrainwind · 15/08/2020 22:36

I change between thinking yes and no chance depending on my mood. I really hope so. I prefer to go abroad for holidays and we are actually flying tomorrow after months of not knowing.

Timeforanotherusername · 15/08/2020 23:15

I'm not planning to book anything abroad!

Not yet anyway...........

SteakExpectations · 15/08/2020 23:22

At the start of lockdown, I was busy making mental plans for an abroad holiday next year. Now that it’s mid August however, I think it’ll probably be safer/less risk staying in the UK and so abroad can wait until at least 2022 for my family. I already have two Butlins breaks booked for next year and think that’ll be adventure enough!

Heffalooomia · 15/08/2020 23:41

My crystal ball says no🔮

LovelyWeekAway · 16/08/2020 00:08

No I don’t think holidays nor travel will be the same next year
I think large companies will have gone bust
I think this winter will see a resurgence in cases leading to a weak travel economy

Dancingalong · 16/08/2020 00:15

I really really hope so, my sister lives in States and was due to visit this summer. It’ll be 2 years next Easter since we last saw her and I really hope we get to see her next summer.
We’ve just done a camping holiday this year, as lovely as it was it didn’t feel like a proper break for me. I didn’t get to relax properly. I guess only time will tell.

BogRollBOGOF · 16/08/2020 00:15

I think the big picture of life will be normal from around Easter next year when the virus naturally tails off again. Rates fell across the Northern hemisphere as outdoor environments became more apoealing anf the colds/ flu season ends.
The southern hemisphere either found it easy to curtail as they were in summer or it arrived later as they approached winter.

This winter we have the advantages of knowing what we are looking for and increased community immunity, plus better treatment and preparation in the NHS.

LovelyWeekAway · 16/08/2020 00:21

Dreading winter in cold climates
We all hang around indoors with heating on

Legoandloldolls · 16/08/2020 00:24

I'm guessing no but hoping yes.

I missed out on a fairly rare family holiday abroad this year, but I am reluctant to risk booking for 2021.

We booked two staycation this year one or two weeks before ( as you can check how shit the Englush weather will be) and I have to feeling that is how foreseeable plans will be me. Last minute.

But even with quarantine rules changing, booking abroad last minute wouldnt appeal. Dh seems to think a colleague returning from France might be disappointed at work.

I'm not sure. But I'm not holding out hope. Probably best to presume life has gone to shite from now on in and any change is a bonus. That's honestly how I feel.
