Do you think holidays and travel will be 'normal' by next summer?

Obviously nobody can know for sure. But what your best guess?

I live abroad and am feeling a bit low today at not getting to see family and friends next summer either. Feeling homesick. We have a wedding to go to next year, really hoping it will all be fine, and a few other celebrations that had to be postponed from this year.

What do you think? Are you planning or booking travel plans for next year?

I'm hoping for a winter break. We've already had Covid and are in the list for antibody testing via private insurance as soon as they agree it's valid. I just want to get away

We did have a holiday abroad booked for this year - a cruise - but as this was cancelled we are now going to Devon instead and I'd rather that than risk going abroad now with all the changing quarantine rules etc.
All holidays are holidays as long as you get away from your own four walls and right now I definitely wouldn't book abroad - no holiday is worth the risk of getting stuck somewhere when if you're in the UK you can just drive home.
I wanted my cruise - but I'm happy to wait for normality before I book again!!

I think it's unlikely, we have a holiday booked for next year but I'm expecting it to be cancelled. No matter, we've explored our country this summer and seen some beautiful places so we will have our two weeks in the sun here instead. It's a good opportunity to see how beautiful our home country is.

I think based on this year, the exponential growth over March/April and comparisons of figures over height of summer it'll be back to more normality but possibly the risk of quarantine would remain as a back up plan.

I think this because more is now known, they get into cases quicker and so it's local lockdowns and they control it better. And the prediction is the peak of it takes off again will be earlier in winter and so by summer we will be in a better position and past 2 waves.

Pandemics can have 2-3 waves. But I'm hoping last one will be lower and even more controlled.

But yes. Ds and I are planning for a U.K. holiday instead.
We were meant to travel aboard next week.

Not least because I'd like the Olympics to go ahead.

Me too, read they are already in doubt.

I might plan a holiday in my head but won't book anything until Easter as who knows.

We keep having talk of vaccines but no one knows anything yet.

Impossible to know but I really hope so. Our Florida holiday has been postponed to next summer. People banging on about how there are lovely places to visit in the UK - yes there are but prices are more expensive than a cottage in France and the weather hugely unpredictable. I’ve booked this week off work and it’s supposed to rain every day. It’s a bit gutting when I’ve worked through all the good weather and finally get some time off. My fb feed seems to be full of the uk camping brigade laughing at those of us who usually travel abroad saying they have no sympathy.

All hinges on a vaccine in my opinion. If they genuinely find one by the end of the year that works by either stopping you getting Covid or stopping it developing you serious disease, then the world will slowly get back to normal as the programme is rolled out. It won’t be quick, production & shipping & physically giving it will be a huge task. And let’s face it, it’ll be the Western World that benefit first.

I’m very hopeful for a vaccine but I do think it’s more likely to be next year that one is licensed.

BlackberrySky · 16/08/2020 10:12

I think it will depend on what new insurance a d cancellation policies come out though this. If people feel reassured that they won't lose their money if the trip doesn't go ahead, or that their insurance would cover covid issues, then more will be happy to book ahead and pay deposits. This may be sufficient to keep the travel industry in business until next year. If much of it goes bust before then, travel next year will be a lot more difficult.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 16/08/2020 10:21

Not booking anything as too unknown. The companies may not survive so we are going to wait. I love holidays but they are a want not a need so will wait until there’s a vaccine or cases numbers drop far far lower.
