Would you go on an all inclusive holiday to Cypress next week?

Because this is what DH has decided we should do Angry. We were supposed to be heading to France in two days time, obviously that's no longer happening.
I'm now looking for UK alternatives, probably a combination of camping and Air B&Bs
He decided to look on the First Choice website earlier and sent me details of a lovely Holiday Village. He's spent the evening trying to convince me that it's a calculated risk blah blah blah. And now he's scowling at all my UK suggestions.

I'd bloody LOVE a week in the the sun by a pool with someone else doing the cooking. But this is not the time for it. I'm so annoyed with him for really reminding me of what I'm missing out on this year. As a family we need to get way from our house for a little while. But that's not the way to do it in the shit-pot year of 2020, is it?

I think Cyprus has a pretty low rate along with Greece compared to other European countries. But I wouldn't go because I think it would be a different experience with masks and social distancing. Don't fancy sunbathing in a face mask 😷🥵

JassyRadlett · 15/08/2020 00:36

Cyprus has had a bit of a spike and was speculated to be in consideration for this week’s list of those having quarantine reimposed, it’s definitely being talked about as the next tranche with Iceland and Denmark.

I feel your pain - we were supposed to be going to the Netherlands. Going to Scotland instead...

JassyRadlett · 15/08/2020 00:48

Plus I’ve just seen that you’d need a negative Covid test carried out within 72hrs of departure which adds a layer of cost and hassle....

Gingerkittykat · 15/08/2020 00:59

Nope, too many different risks all added together like the plane, restaurants and any communal areas. I also don't know what attractions would be open so no idea if I would get bored.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 15/08/2020 07:42

I would if I knew I could quarantine when I get back. I work and can't WFH in my role though so I couldn't risk going anywhere at the moment.

BlessedBeTheFruitCake · 15/08/2020 08:28

I don't think I would, I'd be worried they would be added to the list of countries requiring you to quarantine on return to the UK. I don't think I'd be able to relax properly while away

MissPoldark · 15/08/2020 08:42

No.

There’s also this to consider

LittleRen · 15/08/2020 08:43

Do you have children and can you quarantine if the restriction was introduced? If we didn't have three children two starting back at school then I would go but we can WFH.

wintertravel1980 · 15/08/2020 09:07

The problem with going to Cyprus is that it is a small country so the numbers can go up very quickly as a result of just a few outbreaks.

We were going to go to Croatia during the last week of August but looking at the trends I am pretty sure Croatia will be added to the quarantine list next week.

We are now changing our plane tickets for Italy.

Lazypuppy · 15/08/2020 09:17

Can you self isolate for 14 days easily when you get back?

If we had a holiday booked we'd still go as i wfh now so no problem with the quarentine.

dudsville · 15/08/2020 09:20

Those who see the virus as just the flu or a hoax would go and those who see the myriad of symptoms and the potentially far reaching consequences of either getting it or being a part of spreading it would not. Choose your camp.

GoneFishingAgain · 15/08/2020 09:21

It's not so much being abroad but the travelling that would bother me - being rammed in together on a plane with no social distancing and having to wear a mask for several hours (especially children).

We are holidaying in the UK for the foreseeable future.

MarshallHain · 15/08/2020 09:27

Have you checked Travel Advice?

www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/cyprus

You don't have to wear a mask outside, only in public places indoors.

I live in Cyprus, we have had 29 deaths and about 1300 cases.

MarshallHain · 15/08/2020 09:27
  • Correction, 30 deaths.
Justfivemoreminutesplease · 15/08/2020 10:07

We’re contemplating the same. However, the need to get a negative test no more than 72 hours before flying might be too much as I’m struggling to find anyone who offers it, unless you live in London where there appear to be some walk in places offering it. NHS tests aren’t acceptable. Any thoughts?

BlackberrySky · 15/08/2020 10:10

Not a chance. Overseas travel is risky and full of hassle at the moment. Doesn't seem worth it to me.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 15/08/2020 10:55

Not a chance regardless of destination. No one needs a holiday, it’s just a want. The virus got here through travel.

Schools and workplaces will not be fun in September when people have been travelling and not quarantining after then other people can be affected by a choice they didn’t make.

girlicorne · 15/08/2020 11:13

No it’s just way too much hassle this year stick with the U.K!

Redcrayons · 15/08/2020 11:16

No I can’t take the risk that I might have to quarantine as I’m starting a new job in September.

Dancingalong · 15/08/2020 11:19

As much as we wanted to go abroad I his year to Greece we just couldn’t do it. The risk of quarantine wouldn’t work for us. We went camping in the Isle of Wight instead and although I really wasn’t looking forward to it we had a brilliant time. It was so lovely just to have a change of scenery. We spent most of our time on fairly quiet beaches.

LindainLockdown · 15/08/2020 11:21

Sadly not.

wonderpants · 15/08/2020 11:21

I thought NHS tests were acceptable? Can you link me to where you've seen that they aren't! Not panicking at all!!
Ultimatecougar · 15/08/2020 11:26

Following the decision of the authorities last year to prosecute a woman on dodgy grounds for reporting that she had been gang raped, I would never set foot in the country anyway or give them any of my money. Irrespective of Covid.

WalkingInTheAir13 · 15/08/2020 12:59

You will need a "Fit to Fly" certificate. The NHS does not issue these - only the results via email, which are not acceptable, so private testing only.

You will also need to register on the Cypriot government website for a Flying Pass.
