People moaning about additional measures in places

Aibu to get annoyed when people moan and complain that businesses have put in additional measures.

For example, our local pool has reopened. No family splash but lane swimming for competent swimmers over 8. Swimming lessons have restarted, but no showers or changing rooms. There's a one way system in and out and socially distanced seating round the pool. Towel dry and out. It was really well organised and as safe as could possibly be.

Cue people moaning on Facebook demanding that the changing rooms open up, saying that they won't be returning, how it's a 'child protection' issue drying off by the pool.

We went to the zoo when it first reopened, lovely day out, but loads of people leaving terrible reviews about (at the time) indoor enclosures being closed.

People moaning that they've got to wear a mask so they won't be able to go to places.

Why can't people just be grateful that places have been able to open and are trying to be safe instead of expecting places to cater to them personally.

What do you mean no changing rooms??? Am I missing something? And why no showers? Why no children under 8?

I'd be one of the moaners Grin

askmehowiknow · 17/08/2020 10:32

My swimming pool is open to all, changing room fully open. I believe they limit numbers but not been an issue so far. 45 minutes max is encouraged which seems fair.

fartyface · 17/08/2020 10:38

Honestly those pool arrangements are absolutely shite.

The stuff people put up with it unbelievable in this world of collective suffering. That is a lockdown level of service delivery not a daily life one.

No such nonsense in the pool I go to in UK and the pools here in France are just so normal.

I can't wear a mask so I'm not able to go places. I've seen way more social media posts suggesting everyone who isn't wearing a mask should be burnt as a heretic than I have people complaining about how limited their options are due to mandatory masks.

I have however been to a few outdoor locations with my dc and whilst I understood why they had made certain changes it made the whole experience feel very unpleasant to the point we won't be returning whilst those measures are in place. I didn't complain on social media but even our 5 year old didn't enjoy it especially after he was yelled at by a staff member not to touch an enclosure that he was standing still a good 4 feet away from. Yes, they apologised but it left a very bad taste. I'm still tempted to cancel our membership.

People will go for where they are the most comfortable.
If people don't give feedback, it won't be clear whether numbers are down based on caution and reluctance to try public spaces again, or based on the measures in place, which could be tweaked to still be within guidelines but make it a much more pleasant, relaxed experience.

I'm always surprised when I see this sort of comment RE attractions. I've taken my DC to a few and had a really nice time.

The precautions tended to be distancing measures EG queues and sitting every other seat on rides.

Masks/visors for staff and disinfecting between rides.

Plus limiting numbers into the attraction which is blissful.

I haven't come across anything that's spoiling my enjoyment at all.

I'm wondering if I've just been lucky or if some areas are worse than others.

Can you give some examples of the measures they've taken that make you and your child so miserable? I'm off on holiday at the end of the week and I'm worried now!!

I know everything is weird but it is v hard for staff or volunteers at the moment, people are trying their best to follow new rules and they will be having it impressed upon them they have to make sure customers comply.

So I think try not to take the hump too quickly, this situation will last a long time and we just need to try to be patient. I'm not a saint but I just think we've got to try to be forgiving where we can I guess.

Not a theme park but although they claimed lower numbers, I felt it was too busy. People were everywhere and enough were ignoring all the rules that ds kept asking why he had to do x,y and z when they weren't. The toilets were a problem as it was 1 family groups per block (all at the entrance) so massive queues which isn't ideal with small kids. One way systems meaning that if a child needed the toilet 2 minutes after you started (yes, I asked before hand), you had to do a full loop. Routings that made little sense. No spontaneity, I hate making plans in advance as I have mental health issues which have been exacerbated in lockdown. Everyone staff included just seemed so miserable.

I have little patience with people who make a 5 year old who isn't breaking the rules or even showing any sign of doing so come close to tears. Especially when I could see half a dozen adults doing a variety of dubious things but who weren't challenged. It was completely unnecessary and just plain nasty.

For the time being we're going to focus on outdoor activities just as going to the beach/forest walks

latticechaos · 17/08/2020 16:00

Given activities are for limited numbers, to some extent it'll become self-selecting I guess, those less comfortable with restrictions will opt out but places will be filled due to limited availability.

ChristmasinJune · 17/08/2020 18:03

@Dinosauratemydaffodils oh no that does sound rubbish, sorry to hear it. Especially the toilet thing.... my ds would have ended up wetting himself or weeing in a handy bush!! If the staff look miserable and are shouting at the kids then it doesn't sound like their plan's fit for purpose does it? This wasn't in Wales was it? (Crosses fingers!!)

A lot of our local attractions are now operating 2 or 3 sessions rather than going all day. It's a bit Hmmto be asked to pay the same price for 3 hours as for a full day but the trade off is that SD is easy, Staff aren't as stressed and there are very few queues.

I hope you find somewhere better next time.
