Thread to state that you will not be playing a part in the experiment of secondary schools reopening as normal with no masks, no social distancing, no additional cleaning and no additional transport

The arguments have all been hashed out many times on other threads. This thread is for parents to state that they won't be participating in this and will not be sending their young people back to secondary school as things stand. Not deregistering, just not attending. Phoning in sick, phoning in as self isolating etc but not sending them in.

I state that I am not going to send my children to secondary school under current proposals.

Do whatever makes you happy, just don’t expect any support from the school on home learning, that all has to be down to you.

Remmy123 · 10/08/2020 12:10

De register your kids if you don't want to send them people!!! This is getting out of hand all these thread

Hercwasonaroll · 10/08/2020 12:11

I wouldn’t expect teachers to help and I haven’t seen any suggest they do really.

While you're still on roll the school are responsible for your child's education. They are obliged to provide feedback on work and support you. They are also obligated to refer any safeguarding concerns around attendance. In a perfect world you could do a short term deregister, but you can't. So any kind of keeping your child off will result in more work for staff. It always does. Reintegration takes time and experience to manage. It will be socially difficult to join a class where everyone else returned in September and you didn't.

Anyone making this decision has to accept they are making extra work for the school that won't be mitigates by their child not being in the room.

Please de register so someone who needs a secondary school place can have it. My friends son currently has no school place for September

ClarasZoo · 10/08/2020 12:35

At my local school they will deregister after a certain amount of non-attendance...

Uhoh2020 · 10/08/2020 13:01

@Popcornriver
Mood and actual education was good whilst homelearning

Who was providing the educational resources/setting tasks then you or the school?
If it was school you must realise that that same level will not be provided again in September when the teachers are giving lessons in the classrooms instead.
If it was you then thats fantastic that you are able to are able to do that.

The head of my DCs secondary school has treated my DCs absence as they would a child who had to be in hospital or at home with a broken leg. He says they provide work under those circumstances, and to him this comes under that umbrella.

He is a very popular & effective head.

countryroses · 10/08/2020 13:10

Yeah, the magic English fairy 🧚🏽‍♀️ waved her magic wand and teens in Secondary (and staff) are totally immune.

Whereas reports are that age group 20-30s in England represent most of the new infections now in August.

It’s like being governed by a the sixth form science club with bangs and whizzes for fun. But this is real life Confused

Our school has done this too up until the end of last term, but they won’t be from September when (for now at least!) the government say children need to be back in school.

I think that’s the way it should be. Any head that expects teachers to provide a full education both for students in the classroom and students who have chosen to stay home is not being a good head. It’s too much to expect of teachers who are already under resourced.

MoreW1ne · 10/08/2020 14:02

I dont judge parents keeping their children off, there are no easy decisions at the moment and each has advantages and disadvantages.

However, my concern is some parents on here dont seem to be aware of the potential consequences for their child whilst they are off and when their child returns. I have instructed my staff to spend minimal effort on supplying home learning. They work hard enough and dont need the extra hassle. We will, to use that great teacher describing phrase, 'tick the box'.

In all likelihood unless you have a lot of time (and subject knowledge expertise) to home educate, your child may well fall behind and will struggle a little to reintegrate if they're off for a long time. Theyll probably also move down groups unless it can be proven they have kept up.

I dont say that in a threatening way, it's just how it is. A consequence of the choice you as a parent can make. I care for children a lot, but I also have to look after the welfare of staff who will be having to do a lot of additional time consuming and challenging things this term. A good school leader does both of these things.

BoxhillBertha · 10/08/2020 14:04

are people really doing this?!

Poor kids.

loulouljh · 10/08/2020 14:06

Simply de-register then. Schools are going back as they should be.

I totally agree. I think some parents just hate school and love a chance to make a big drama out of it.

FourFlapjacksPlease · 10/08/2020 14:08

Oh ffs. Just keep your kids off if you want to but stop banging on about it as if you are the all knowing corona queen.

You do you and make as many statements as you like, but I'll be sending my kids to school with a smile and a bottle of sanitizer.

BoxhillBertha · 10/08/2020 14:09

Me too! Can't wait and neither can they.

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 10/08/2020 14:40

No drama here BoxhillBertha. Just blood cancer, and lack of trust in our government.

Big hugs, I think the thread is being trolled a bit. We’ve done a bit, others in our camp/tribe will know they’re not alone. I honestly think it will be fine and by October they will be actively encouraging it, if not before. Everyone just has to find their best compromise in these rubbish times, things aren’t going to be normal for a while longer. Take care and I hope it all goes well for you.
BoxhillBertha · 10/08/2020 14:57

I'm sorry that you have blood cancer, I really am. But your dcs need to go to school.

I'd personally rather not hug my kids and socially distance from them at home rather than stop them going to school.

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 10/08/2020 14:58

Thank you sunseekin Thanks

I think so too, which is why I came on. I think it's too easy to be put off by strident responses.

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 10/08/2020 14:58

Ok BoxhillBertha

BoxhillBertha · 10/08/2020 15:00

It's absolutely fine to be strident. We don't have to agree.

I am sure those with complicated underlying heath conditions will do what they think is for the best.

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 10/08/2020 15:05

Mmm-hmmm. Difference is, I'm not telling you what your kids 'really need'.

SengaStrawberry · 10/08/2020 15:06

Who gives a shit? Why start a thread to announce it? Some people really will make everything all about them all the time.
