Thread to state that you will not be playing a part in the experiment of secondary schools reopening as normal with no masks, no social distancing, no additional cleaning and no additional transport

The arguments have all been hashed out many times on other threads. This thread is for parents to state that they won't be participating in this and will not be sending their young people back to secondary school as things stand. Not deregistering, just not attending. Phoning in sick, phoning in as self isolating etc but not sending them in.

I state that I am not going to send my children to secondary school under current proposals.

Thank you @herca. It ids probably all dd2 can cope with right now but I don't want to deregister her as she really wants to ve kn school. Just need to convince LA.

Be in

Northernsoulgirl45 · 11/08/2020 09:22

@MiniTheMinx thank you but I just stole it from another thread.

Lots of schools are fully supportive of this decision and plan to back parents with the LEA by vouching for their ability to be supportive. My school is making homework packs available for parents to pick up whether their children are attending or not. It's kind of them but they don't seem to feel it's a massively irritating, worrying or scandalising decision the way some on here do.

Hercwasonaroll · 11/08/2020 09:31

Perhaps there's a primary secondary split here. My secondary would not be supportive and rightly so.

Northernsoulgirl45, no no no, thank you, I hadn't read about this. It's very worrying. I think it's right to be worried. I'm assuming too that the press report findings and pick statements that contradict because it's all taken out of context. If I were a government minister having only access to that level of information though I would be able to dismiss it as making no logical sense, and ignore it. The government needs to be challenged on the direction its taking with schools. My point is that whilst a lot of research is required, researchers looking at how virus transmission occurs are barking up the wrong tree. Its known how viruses transmit and behave. Covid replicates itself in the same way as every other virus.

I believe older children won't be better vectors than young children. The virus may have a bigger impact on the health of older children and adults but that has nothing to do with how the virus behaves, and is due to how the immune system is developed, ie it's how the body behaves.

How the virus is able to transmit is down to human behaviour, not down to biology. So I think younger children will pass on the virus very effectively, both within their own cohort within school and at home. Transmission of virus from home to school will occur, and transmission is not dependent upon where the virus was first acquired, so children will bring it home with them. For any scientific research to suggest otherwise is for those scientists to ignore all known facts about how viruses replicate and transmit.

It is my DCs Secondary that is the most supportive of keeping vulnerable children at home. Thank

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 11/08/2020 09:50

Don't know where the random thank came from Brew

OverTheRainbow88 · 11/08/2020 12:51

I think people just need to weigh up the risks and benefits for their own family and make a decision based on that.

Those you think the benefits outweigh the risks go for it

Those who think the risks outweigh the benefits keep them home.

@MiniTheMinx

My point is that whilst a lot of research is required, researchers looking at how virus transmission occurs are barking up the wrong tree.

And you know this how?

MiniTheMinx · 11/08/2020 14:46

OverTheRainbow88 all virus transmit and reproduce in the same way. This is already known. So research into these factors is unnecessary.
